¹And God spake all these words, saying,

¹Alors Dieu prononça toutes ces paroles, en disant:

¹וידבר אלהים את כל הדברים האלה לאמר׃

²I am Jehovah thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

²Je suis l'Eternel, ton Dieu, qui t'ai fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.

²אנכי יהוה אלהיך אשר הוצאתיך מארץ מצרים מבית עבדים׃

³Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

³Tu n'auras pas d'autres dieux devant ma face.

³לא יהיה לך אלהים אחרים על פני׃

⁴Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, nor any likeness [of any thing] that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

⁴Tu ne te feras point d'image taillée, ni de représentation quelconque des choses qui sont en haut dans les cieux, qui sont en bas sur la terre, et qui sont dans les eaux plus bas que la terre.

⁴לא תעשה לך פסל וכל תמונה אשר בשמים ממעל ואשר בארץ מתחת ואשר במים מתחת לארץ׃

⁵Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them, for I Jehovah thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me,

⁵Tu ne te prosterneras point devant elles, et tu ne les serviras point; car moi, l'Eternel, ton Dieu, je suis un Dieu jaloux, qui punis l'iniquité des pères sur les enfants jusqu'à la troisième et la quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent,

⁵לא תשתחוה להם ולא תעבדם כי אנכי יהוה אלהיך אל קנא פקד עון אבת על בנים על שלשים ועל רבעים לשנאי׃

⁶and showing lovingkindness unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

⁶et qui fais miséricorde jusqu'en mille générations à ceux qui m'aiment et qui gardent mes commandements.

⁶ועשה חסד לאלפים לאהבי ולשמרי מצותי׃

⁷Thou shalt not take the name of Jehovah thy God in vain; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

⁷Tu ne prendras point le nom de l'Eternel, ton Dieu, en vain; car l'Eternel ne laissera point impuni celui qui prendra son nom en vain.

⁷לא תשא את שם יהוה אלהיך לשוא כי לא ינקה יהוה את אשר ישא את שמו לשוא׃

⁸Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

⁸Souviens-toi du jour du repos, pour le sanctifier.

⁸זכור את יום השבת לקדשו׃

⁹Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work;

⁹Tu travailleras six jours, et tu feras tout ton ouvrage.

⁹ששת ימים תעבד ועשית כל מלאכתך׃

¹⁰but the seventh day is a sabbath unto Jehovah thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

¹⁰Mais le septième jour est le jour du repos de l'Eternel, ton Dieu: tu ne feras aucun ouvrage, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bétail, ni l'étranger qui est dans tes portes.

¹⁰ויום השביעי שבת ליהוה אלהיך לא תעשה כל מלאכה אתה ובנך ובתך עבדך ואמתך ובהמתך וגרך אשר בשעריך׃

¹¹for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

¹¹Car en six jours l'Eternel a fait les cieux, la terre et la mer, et tout ce qui y est contenu, et il s'est reposé le septième jour: c'est pourquoi l'Eternel a béni le jour du repos et l'a sanctifié.

¹¹כי ששת ימים עשה יהוה את השמים ואת הארץ את הים ואת כל אשר בם וינח ביום השביעי על כן ברך יהוה את יום השבת ויקדשהו׃

¹²Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

¹²Honore ton père et ta mère, afin que tes jours se prolongent dans le pays que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, te donne.

¹²כבד את אביך ואת אמך למען יארכון ימיך על האדמה אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך׃

¹³Thou shalt not kill.

¹³Tu ne tueras point.

¹³לא תרצח׃

¹⁴Thou shalt not commit adultery.

¹⁴Tu ne commettras point d'adultère.

¹⁴לא תנאף׃

¹⁵Thou shalt not steal.

¹⁵Tu ne déroberas point.

¹⁵לא תגנב׃

¹⁶Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

¹⁶Tu ne porteras point de faux témoignage contre ton prochain.

¹⁶לא תענה ברעך עד שקר׃

¹⁷Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

¹⁷Tu ne convoiteras point la maison de ton prochain; tu ne convoiteras point la femme de ton prochain, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son boeuf, ni son âne, ni aucune chose qui appartienne à ton prochain.

¹⁷לא תחמד בית רעך לא תחמד אשת רעך ועבדו ואמתו ושורו וחמרו וכל אשר לרעך׃

¹⁸And all the people perceived the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they trembled, and stood afar off.

¹⁸Tout le peuple entendait les tonnerres et le son de la trompette; il voyait les flammes de la montagne fumante. A ce spectacle, le peuple tremblait, et se tenait dans l'éloignement.

¹⁸וכל העם ראים את הקולת ואת הלפידם ואת קול השפר ואת ההר עשן וירא העם וינעו ויעמדו מרחק׃

¹⁹And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

¹⁹Ils dirent à Moïse: Parle-nous toi-même, et nous écouterons; mais que Dieu ne nous parle point, de peur que nous ne mourions.

¹⁹ויאמרו אל משה דבר אתה עמנו ונשמעה ואל ידבר עמנו אלהים פן נמות׃

²⁰And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not.

²⁰Moïse dit au peuple: Ne vous effrayez pas; car c'est pour vous mettre à l'épreuve que Dieu est venu, et c'est pour que vous ayez sa crainte devant les yeux, afin que vous ne péchiez point.

²⁰ויאמר משה אל העם אל תיראו כי לבעבור נסות אתכם בא האלהים ובעבור תהיה יראתו על פניכם לבלתי תחטאו׃

²¹And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

²¹Le peuple restait dans l'éloignement; mais Moïse s'approcha de la nuée où était Dieu.

²¹ויעמד העם מרחק ומשה נגש אל הערפל אשר שם האלהים׃

²²And Jehovah said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

²²L'Eternel dit à Moïse: Tu parleras ainsi aux enfants d'Israël: Vous avez vu que je vous ai parlé depuis les cieux.

²²ויאמר יהוה אל משה כה תאמר אל בני ישראל אתם ראיתם כי מן השמים דברתי עמכם׃

²³Ye shall not make [other gods] with me; gods of silver, or gods of gold, ye shall not make unto you.

²³Vous ne ferez point des dieux d'argent et des dieux d'or, pour me les associer; vous ne vous en ferez point.

²³לא תעשון אתי אלהי כסף ואלהי זהב לא תעשו לכם׃

²⁴An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in every place where I record my name I will come unto thee and I will bless thee.

²⁴Tu m'élèveras un autel de terre, sur lequel tu offriras tes holocaustes et tes sacrifices d'actions de grâces, tes brebis et tes boeufs. Partout où je rappellerai mon nom, je viendrai à toi, et je te bénirai.

²⁴מזבח אדמה תעשה לי וזבחת עליו את עלתיך ואת שלמיך את צאנך ואת בקרך בכל המקום אשר אזכיר את שמי אבוא אליך וברכתיך׃

²⁵And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stones; for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

²⁵Si tu m'élèves un autel de pierre, tu ne le bâtiras point en pierres taillées; car en passant ton ciseau sur la pierre, tu la profanerais.

²⁵ואם מזבח אבנים תעשה לי לא תבנה אתהן גזית כי חרבך הנפת עליה ותחללה׃

²⁶Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not uncovered thereon.

²⁶Tu ne monteras point à mon autel par des degrés, afin que ta nudité ne soit pas découverte.

²⁶ולא תעלה במעלת על מזבחי אשר לא תגלה ערותך עליו׃
