1伯沙撒王大宴群臣伯沙撒王為他的一千大臣大擺筵席，他和他們一同喝酒。
1Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
2伯沙撒喝酒歡暢的時候，下令把他先祖尼布甲尼撒從耶路撒冷聖殿裡掠取的金銀器皿拿來，好讓他和他的大臣、妻妾、妃嬪用這些器皿來喝酒。
2Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drink therefrom.
3於是人把從耶路撒冷聖殿裡，就是 神的殿裡，掠來的金銀器皿拿來；王和他的大臣、妻妾、妃嬪就用這些器皿來喝酒。
3Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drank from them.
4他們喝酒，讚美那些用金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石所做的神。
4They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
5指頭在牆上寫字當時，忽然有人手的指頭出現，在王宮裡燈臺對面的粉牆上寫字；王看見了那隻正在寫字的手掌，
5In the same hour came forth the fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
6就臉色大變，心意驚惶，兩腳無力，雙膝彼此相碰。
6Then the king's countenance was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
7王大聲呼叫，吩咐人把那些用法術的和迦勒底人，以及占星家都領進來；王對巴比倫的智慧人說：“誰能讀這文字，又能向我解釋它的意思，他必身穿紫袍，頸戴金鍊，在國中掌權，位列第三。”
7The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spake and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
8於是王所有的智慧人都進來，卻不能讀那文字，也不能把意思向王說明。
8Then came in all the king's wise men; but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation.
9伯沙撒王就非常驚惶，臉色大變；他的大臣也都不知所措。
9Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were perplexed.
10太后舉薦但以理太后因王和他的大臣所說的話，就進入宴會的大廳，對王說：“願王萬歲！你的心意不要驚惶，也不要臉色大變。
10[Now] the queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house: the queen spake and said, O king, live forever; let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed.
11在你國中有一個人，他裡面有聖神的靈；你先祖在世的日子，發現這人有灼見，有聰明，有智慧，好像神的智慧一樣。你先祖尼布甲尼撒王，就是王的先祖，曾立他為術士、用法術的，以及迦勒底人和占星家的領袖。
11There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him; and the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, [I say], thy father, made him master of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
12這都因為在這但以理裡面有美好的靈性，有知識，有聰明，能解夢，釋謎語，能解答難題；這人尼布甲尼撒王曾給他起名叫伯提沙撒。現在可以把但以理召來，他必能解釋牆上文字的意思。”
12forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and showing of dark sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.
13於是但以理被帶到王面前，王問但以理說：“你就是我先王從猶大擄來的猶大人但以理嗎？
13Then was Daniel brought in before the king. The king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, who art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah?
14我聽說你裡面有神的靈，有灼見，有聰明，有高超的智慧。
14I have heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in thee.
15現在智慧人和用法術的都被帶到我面前了，我要他們讀這文字，把文字的意思向我說明，可是他們都不能解釋這文字的意思。
15And now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof; but they could not show the interpretation of the thing.
16我聽說你能解釋異夢，也能解答難題。現在你若能讀這文字，把它的意思向我說明，就必身穿紫袍，頸戴金鍊，在國中掌權，位列第三。”
16But I have heard of thee, that thou canst give interpretations, and dissolve doubts; now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
17但以理直言責王但以理在王面前回答說：“你的禮物可以歸你自己，你的賞賜可以歸給別人；我卻要為王讀這文字，也要把意思向王說明。
17Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; nevertheless I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
18王啊！至高的 神曾把國位、權勢、光榮和威嚴賜給你先祖尼布甲尼撒。
18O thou king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father the kingdom, and greatness, and glory, and majesty:
19因 神所賜給他的權勢，各國、各族和說各種語言的人，都在他面前戰兢恐懼；他要殺誰，就殺誰；要誰活著，誰就可以活著；要提升誰，就提升誰；要貶低誰，就貶低誰。
19and because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he raised up, and whom he would he put down.
20但他心高氣傲、妄自尊大的時候，就從國位上被趕下來，他的尊榮也被奪去。
20But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
21他被趕逐，離開人群，他的心變如獸心，他和野驢同住，像牛一樣吃草，身體被天露滴濕；等到他承認至高的 神在世人的國中掌權，他喜歡誰，就立誰執掌國權。
21and he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the beasts', and his dwelling was with the wild asses; he was fed with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; until he knew that the Most High God ruleth in the kingdom of men, and that he setteth up over it whomsoever he will.
22伯沙撒啊！你是他的子孫，你雖然知道這一切，你的心仍不謙卑，
22And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thy heart, though thou knewest all this,
23竟高抬自己，敵對天上的主，使人把他殿中的器皿拿到你面前來，你和你的大臣、妻妾、妃嬪用這些器皿喝酒；你又讚美那些不能看見、不能聽見、甚麼都不能知道，用金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石所做的神，卻沒有把榮耀歸給那手中有你的氣息，和那掌管你一切命途的 神。
23but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy lords, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine from them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified.
24因此，有手從 神那裡伸出來，寫了這文字。
24Then was the part of the hand sent from before him, and this writing was inscribed.
25解釋牆上文字的意義“所寫的文字是：‘彌尼，彌尼，提客勒，烏法珥新。’
25And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
26這文字的意思是這樣：‘彌尼’就是 神已數算了你國度的年日，使國終止；
26This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and brought it to an end;
27‘提客勒’就是你被稱在天平上，顯出你的缺欠；
27TEKEL; thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28‘毗勒斯’（“毗勒斯”即“烏法珥新”的單數式）就是你的國要分裂，歸給瑪代人和波斯人。”
28PERES; thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
29於是伯沙撒下令，人就把紫袍給但以理穿上，把金鍊戴在他的頸上，又宣告他在國中掌權，位列第三。
29Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with purple, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30伯沙撒王被殺而亡國當夜，迦勒底人的王伯沙撒被殺。
30In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain.
31瑪代人大利烏奪取了迦勒底國；那時他六十二歲。（本節在《馬索拉抄本》為6:1）
31And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.
