1嚴重的蝗災耶和華的話臨到毗土珥的兒子約珥：
1The word of Jehovah that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
2老年人哪！你們要聽這話。這地所有的居民啊！你們要留心聽。在你們的日子，或在你們祖先的日子，曾有這樣的事嗎？
2Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
3你們要把這事傳與子，子傳與孫，孫傳與後代。
3Tell ye your children of it, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generation.
4剪蟲剩下的，蝗蟲吃了；蝗蟲剩下的，蝻子吃了；蝻子剩下的，螞蚱吃了。
4That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.
5酒醉的人哪！你們要醒過來；要哀哭！所有嗜酒的人哪！你們都要為甜酒哀號，因為甜酒從你們的口裡斷絕了。
5Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.
6因為有一民族上來侵犯我的國土，他們強大又無數；他們的牙齒像獅子的牙齒，他們有母獅的大牙。
6For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness.
7他們使我的葡萄樹荒涼，折斷了我的無花果樹，把樹皮剝盡，丟在一旁，使枝條露白。
7He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig-tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
8勸人民哀哭你們要哀號，像少女腰束麻布，為她幼年時許配的丈夫哀號一樣。
8Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
9素祭和奠祭都從耶和華的殿裡斷絕了，事奉耶和華的祭司也都悲哀。
9The meal-offering and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah's ministers, mourn.
10田野荒廢，土地淒涼，因為五穀毀壞，新酒乾竭，油也缺乏。
10The field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
11農夫啊！你們要為大麥和小麥羞愧。修理葡萄園的啊！你們要哀號，因為田間的莊稼都破壞了。
11Be confounded, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; for the harvest of the field is perished.
12葡萄樹枯乾，無花果樹衰殘；石榴樹、棕樹、蘋果樹，田野所有的樹木都枯乾，因此歡樂從人間消失了。
12The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field are withered: for joy is withered away from the sons of men.
13呼籲人民禁食禱告祭司啊！你們要腰束麻布，並且痛哭。在祭壇侍候的啊！你們要哀號。事奉我的 神的啊！你們披上麻布進去過夜吧，因為素祭和奠祭，都從你們的 神的殿中止息了。
13Gird yourselves [with sackcloth], and lament, ye priests; wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meal-offering and the drink-offering are withholden from the house of your God.
14你們要把禁食的日子分別為聖，召開嚴肅會，聚集眾長老和國中所有的居民，到你們的 神耶和華的殿裡，向耶和華呼求。
14Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the old men [and] all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah.
15哀哉那日！因為耶和華的日子臨近了；那日來到，好像毀滅從全能者臨到一樣。
15Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
16糧食不是在我們的眼前斷絕了嗎？歡喜與快樂不是從我們的 神的殿中止息了嗎？
16Is not the food cut off before our eyes, [yea], joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17穀種在土塊底下朽爛，倉庫荒涼，穀倉破爛被拆毀，因為五穀都枯乾了。
17The seeds rot under their clods; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered.
18牲畜發出哀鳴，牛群到處流蕩，因為沒有草場給牠們，羊群也同樣受苦。
18How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
19耶和華啊！我向你呼求，因為火吞滅了曠野的草場，火燄燒盡了田間所有的樹木。
19O Jehovah, to thee do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.
20田野的走獸也向你發喘，因為溪水都乾涸了，火吞滅了曠野的草場。
20Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
