¹On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.

¹王發現末底改有功未酬那一夜，王睡不著覺，就吩咐人把史記，就是年鑒拿來，在王面前誦讀。

²And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.

²有一處記著說：王有兩個守門的太監：辟探和提列，企圖要謀害亞哈隨魯王；這事給末底改告發了。

³And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.

³王問：“為了這事，末底改得了甚麼尊榮和封賜沒有？”侍候王的眾臣僕回答：“他甚麼也沒有得到。”

⁴And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

⁴王問：“誰在院子裡？”那時哈曼正進了王宮的外院，要求王把末底改掛在哈曼為他預備的木架上。

⁵And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.

⁵王的臣僕對他說：“是哈曼站在院子裡。”王說：“叫他進來。”

⁶So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?

⁶哈曼就進去，王問他：“王喜歡賜尊榮給他的人，要怎樣待他呢？”哈曼心裡想：“王喜歡賜尊榮的人，除我以外，還有誰呢？”

⁷And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,

⁷於是哈曼回答王：“王喜歡賜尊榮的人，

⁸Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:

⁸要把王常穿的朝服和王常騎的駿馬，就是頭戴王冠的駿馬帶來，

⁹And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.

⁹把朝服和駿馬交給王最尊貴的一個大臣手裡，把衣服給王喜歡賜尊榮的人穿上，使他騎在馬上，走過城中的街上，又要有人在他前面宣告：‘王喜歡賜尊榮的人，要這樣待他。’”

¹⁰Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.

¹⁰王命哈曼使末底改得尊榮王對哈曼說：“趕快拿朝服和駿馬來，照著你所說的，去行在那坐在朝門那裡的猶大人末底改身上；你所說的，一樣也不可缺少。”

¹¹Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.

¹¹於是哈曼把朝服和駿馬拿來，先給末底改穿上朝服，然後使他騎在馬上，走過城中的街上，又在他前面宣告：“王喜歡賜尊榮的人，要這樣待他。”

¹²And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.

¹²末底改仍回到御門那裡；哈曼卻急急忙忙回了家，帶著悲哀的心蒙著頭。

¹³And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.

¹³哈曼把遭遇的一切事，都述說給他的妻子細利斯和他所有的朋友聽；他的謀士和妻子細利斯對他說：“在末底改面前，你開始失敗了；他若是猶大人，你就不能勝過他：你終必在他面前失敗。”

¹⁴And while they were yet talking with him, came the king's chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.

¹⁴他們還與哈曼說話的時候，王的太監來了，催哈曼快走，赴以斯帖預備的筵席。
