¹Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

¹Ang tanan nga mitoo nga si Jesus mao si Cristo, gipanganak sa Dios; ug ang tanan nga nahigugma sa nanganak, nahigugma usab sa gipanganak niya.

²By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

²Niini maila nato nga nahigugma kita sa mga anak sa Dios; sa mahigugma kita sa Dios, ug ginabantayan nato ang iyang mga sugo.

³For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

³Kay mao kini ang gugma sa Dios, nga pagabantayan nato ang iyang mga sugo; ug ang iyang mga sugo dili mabug-at.

⁴For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

⁴Kay ang tanan nga gipanganak sa Dios, nakadaug sa kalibutan; ug kini mao ang pagdaug nga midaug sa kalibutan, nga mao ang atong pagtoo.

⁵Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

⁵Kay kinsa ba ang makadaug sa kalibutan, kondili ang mitoo nga si Jesus mao ang Anak sa Dios?

⁶This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

⁶Kini mao ang mianhi tungod sa tubig ug sa dugo, nga mao si Jesucristo; dili sa tubig lamang, kondili sa tubig ug sa dugo.

⁷For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

⁷Ug ang Espiritu mao ang nagapamatuod; kay ang Espiritu mao ang kamatuoran.

⁸And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

⁸Kay totolo ang nagapamatuod: Ang Espiritu, ug ang tubig, ug ang dugo: ug kining totolo nagakauyon sa usa.

⁹If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

⁹Kong gidawat ta ang pagpamatuod sa mga tawo, ang pagpamatuod sa Dios labi pa. Kay ang pagpamatuod sa Dios, mao kini nga nagapamatuod siya nahatungod sa iyang Anak.

¹⁰He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

¹⁰Ang may pagtoo sa Anak sa Dios, may pagpamatuod diha sa iyang kaugalingon; ang wala magatoo sa Dios, nagahimo kaniya nga bakakon; kay wala siya ing pagtoo sa pagpamatuod nga gipamatuod sa Dios nahatungod sa iyang Anak.

¹¹And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

¹¹Ug kini mao ang pagpamatuod nga ang Dios mihatag kanato sa kinabuhi nga walay katapusan, ug kini nga kinabuhia anaa sa iyang Anak.

¹²He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

¹²Ang nagabaton sa Anak, may kinabuhi; ang wala magabaton sa Anak sa Dios, walay kinabuhi.

¹³These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

¹³Kining mga butanga gisulat ko kaninyo nga nanagpanoo sa ngalan sa Anak sa Dios, aron mahibaloan ninyo nga nakadawat kamo sa kinabuhi nga walay katapusan.

¹⁴And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

¹⁴Ug kini mao ang pagsalig nato kaniya: nga kong mangayo kita bisan unsang butanga sumala sa iyang kabubut-on, siya magapatalinghug kanato:

¹⁵And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

¹⁵Ug kong hibaloan nato nga ginapatalinghugan niya kita sa tanan nga atong pagapangayoon kaniya, mahibaloan nato nga may ato kita sa gipangayo gikan kaniya.

¹⁶If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

¹⁶Kong ang uban nakakita sa iyang igsoon nga nakasala nga dili ngadto sa kamatayon, magaampo siya, ug pagahatagan siya sa Dios ug kinabuhi alang kanila nga nagapakasala nga dili ngadto sa kamatayon. May sala ngadto sa kamatayon; dili tungod niini ako nagaingon nga mag-ampo siya.

¹⁷All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

¹⁷Ang tanan nga dili-pagkamatarung sala man, apan may sala nga dili ngadto sa kamatayon.

¹⁸We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

¹⁸Hingbaloan nato nga bisan kinsa nga gipanganak sa Dios, dili magapakasala; apan ang gipanganak sa Dios nagamatngon siya sa iyang kaugalingon, ug ang dautan dili magatandug kaniya.

¹⁹And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

¹⁹Hingbaloan nato nga iya kita sa Dios, ug ang tibook nga kalibutan nahaluna diha sa dautan.

²⁰And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

²⁰Ug hingbaloan nato nga mianhi ang Anak sa Dios, ug mihatag kanato sa salabutan sa pag-ila nga kita nakaila kaniya nga matuod, ug anaa kita kaniya nga matuod, nga mao ang iyang Anak nga si Jesucristo. Kini mao man ang matuod nga Dios, ug kinabuhi nga walay katapusan.

²¹Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

²¹Mga anak, maglikay kamo gikan sa mga dios-dios.
