¹And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

¹ Dywedodd yr ARGLWYDD wrth Samuel, "Am ba hyd yr wyt yn mynd i ofidio am Saul, a minnau wedi ei wrthod fel brenin ar Israel? Llanw dy gorn ag olew a dos; yr wyf yn dy anfon at Jesse o Fethlehem, oherwydd yr wyf wedi gweld brenin imi ymysg ei feibion ef."

²And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.

² Gofynnodd Samuel, "Sut y medraf fi fynd? Os clyw Saul, fe'm lladd." Dywedodd yr ARGLWYDD, "Dos � heffer gyda thi, a dweud dy fod wedi dod i aberthu i'r ARGLWYDD.

³And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.

³ Rho wahoddiad i Jesse i'r aberth; dangosaf finnau iti beth i'w wneud, ac eneinia imi yr un a ddywedaf wrthyt."

⁴And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

⁴ Gwnaeth Samuel fel y dywedodd yr ARGLWYDD wrtho, a mynd i Fethlehem. Pan ddaeth henuriaid y dref yn gynhyrfus i'w gyfarfod a gofyn, "Ai mewn heddwch y daethost?"

⁵And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

⁵ atebodd yntau, "Ie, mewn heddwch. I aberthu i'r ARGLWYDD yr wyf fi yma; ymgysegrwch ac ymunwch � mi yn yr aberth."

⁶And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.

⁶ Cysegrodd yntau Jesse a'i feibion, a'u gwahodd i'r aberth. Fel yr oeddent yn dod, sylwodd ar Eliab a meddyliodd, "Yn sicr dyma'i eneiniog, gerbron yr ARGLWYDD."

⁷But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

⁷ Ond dywedodd yr ARGLWYDD wrth Samuel, "Paid ag edrych ar ei wedd na'i daldra, oherwydd yr wyf wedi ei wrthod; oblegid nid yr hyn a w�l meidrolyn y mae Duw'n ei weld. Yr hyn sydd yn y golwg a w�l meidrolyn, ond y mae'r ARGLWYDD yn gweld beth sydd yn y galon."

⁸Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

⁸ Yna galwodd Jesse am Abinadab a'i ddwyn gerbron, ond dywedodd Samuel, "Nid hwn chwaith a ddewisodd yr ARGLWYDD."

⁹Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

⁹ Yna parodd Jesse i Samma ddod, ond dywedodd Samuel, "Nid hwn chwaith a ddewisodd yr ARGLWYDD."

¹⁰Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.

¹⁰ A pharodd Jesse i saith o'i feibion ddod gerbron Samuel; ond dywedodd Samuel wrth Jesse, "Ni ddewisodd yr ARGLWYDD yr un o'r rhai hyn."

¹¹And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.

¹¹ Yna gofynnodd Samuel i Jesse, "Ai dyma'r bechgyn i gyd?" Atebodd yntau, "Y mae'r ieuengaf ar �l, yn bugeilio'r defaid." Ac meddai Samuel wrth Jesse, "Anfon amdano; nid awn ni oddi yma nes iddo ef ddod."

¹²And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

¹² Felly anfonodd i'w gyrchu. Yr oedd yn writgoch, a chanddo lygaid gloyw ac yn hardd yr olwg. A dywedodd yr ARGLWYDD, "Tyrd, eneinia ef, oherwydd hwn ydyw."

¹³Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

¹³ Cymerodd Samuel y corn olew, a'i eneinio yng nghanol ei frodyr; a disgynnodd ysbryd yr ARGLWYDD ar Ddafydd, o'r dydd hwnnw ymlaen. Yna aeth Samuel yn �l i Rama.

¹⁴But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

¹⁴ Ciliodd ysbryd yr ARGLWYDD oddi wrth Saul, a dechreuodd ysbryd drwg oddi wrth yr ARGLWYDD aflonyddu arno.

¹⁵And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

¹⁵ Dywedodd gweision Saul wrtho, "Dyma sydd o'i le: y mae un o'r ysbrydion drwg yn aflonyddu arnat.

¹⁶Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

¹⁶ O na fyddai'n meistr yn gorchymyn i'w weision yma chwilio am u373?r sy'n medru canu telyn! Caiff yntau ei chanu pan fydd yr ysbryd drwg yn ymosod arnat, a byddi dithau'n well."

¹⁷And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

¹⁷ Dywedodd Saul wrth ei weision, "Chwiliwch am ddyn sy'n delynor da, a dewch ag ef ataf."

¹⁸Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

¹⁸ Atebodd un o'r gweision, "Mi welais fab i Jesse o Fethlehem, sy'n medru canu telyn, ac y mae'n u373?r dewr ac yn rhyfelwr; y mae'n siarad yn ddeallus ac yn un golygus hefyd, ac y mae'r ARGLWYDD gydag ef."

¹⁹Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.

¹⁹ Anfonodd Saul negeswyr at Jesse a dweud, "Anfon ataf dy fab Dafydd sydd gyda'r defaid."

²⁰And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

²⁰ Cymerodd Jesse asyn gyda baich o fara, costrel o win, a myn gafr, a'u hanfon gyda'i fab Dafydd at Saul.

²¹And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.

²¹ Aeth Saul yn hoff iawn o Ddafydd pan ddaeth i weini ato, a gwnaeth ef yn gludydd arfau iddo.

²²And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favor in my sight.

²² Anfonodd Saul at Jesse a dweud, "Yr wyf am i Ddafydd gael aros yn fy ngwasanaeth, oherwydd yr wyf wrth fy modd gydag ef."

²³And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

²³ Pryd bynnag y byddai'r ysbryd drwg yn blino Saul, byddai Dafydd yn cymryd ei delyn ac yn ei chanu; rhoddai hynny esmwyth�d i Saul a'i wella, fel bod yr ysbryd drwg yn cilio oddi wrtho.
