Jeremiah

38

1Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
1 Clywodd Seffateia fab Mattan, Gedaleia fab Pasur, Jucal fab Selemeia, a Pasur fab Malcheia y geiriau yr oedd Jeremeia'n eu llefaru wrth yr holl bobl, gan ddweud,
2Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
2 "Fel hyn y dywed yr ARGLWYDD: 'Pwy bynnag fydd yn aros yn y ddinas hon, fe fydd farw trwy gleddyf, newyn a haint; ond pwy bynnag fydd yn mynd allan at y Caldeaid, bydd hwnnw fyw; bydd yn arbed ei fywyd ac yn byw.'
3Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which shall take it.
3 Fel hyn y dywed yr ARGLWYDD: 'Yn ddiau rhoir y ddinas hon yng ngafael llu brenin Babilon, a bydd ef yn ei hennill.'"
4Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
4 Yna dywedodd y swyddogion wrth y brenin, "Atolwg, rhodder y dyn hwn i farwolaeth; oblegid y mae'n gwanhau dwylo gweddill y milwyr sydd yn y ddinas hon, a phawb o'r bobl, trwy lefaru fel hyn wrthynt. Nid yw'r dyn yn meddwl am les y bobl hyn, ond am eu niwed."
5Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.
5 Atebodd y Brenin Sedeceia, "Y mae yn eich dwylo chwi; ni ddichon y brenin wneud dim i'ch gwrthwynebu yn y mater."
6Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
6 A chymerasant Jeremeia, a'i fwrw i bydew Malcheia, mab y brenin, yng nghyntedd y gwylwyr; gollyngasant Jeremeia i lawr wrth raffau. Nid oedd du373?r yn y pydew, dim ond llaid, a suddodd Jeremeia yn y llaid.
7Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;
7 Clywodd Ebed-melech yr Ethiopiad, eunuch ym mhlasty'r brenin, eu bod wedi rhoi Jeremeia yn y pydew. Yr oedd y brenin yn eistedd ym mhorth Benjamin,
8Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spake to the king saying,
8 ac aeth Ebed-melech allan o'r plasty at y brenin a dweud,
9My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.
9 "F'arglwydd frenin, gwnaeth y gwu375?r hyn ddrwg ym mhob peth a wnaethant i'r proffwyd Jeremeia, trwy ei fwrw i'r pydew; bydd farw yn y lle gan y newyn, am nad oes bara mwyach yn y ddinas."
10Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.
10 Yna gorchmynnodd y brenin i Ebed-melech yr Ethiopiad, "Cymer gyda thi dri o wu375?r, a chodi'r proffwyd Jeremeia o'r pydew cyn iddo farw."
11So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
11 Cymerodd Ebed-melech y gwu375?r ac aeth i'r ystafell wisgo yn y plasty, a chymryd oddi yno hen garpiau a hen fratiau, a'u gollwng i lawr wrth raffau at Jeremeia yn y pydew.
12And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
12 A dywedodd Ebed-melech yr Ethiopiad wrth Jeremeia, "Gosod yr hen garpiau a'r bratiau dan dy geseiliau o dan y rhaffau." Gwnaeth Jeremeia felly.
13So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
13 A thynasant Jeremeia i fyny wrth y rhaffau, a'i godi o'r pydew. Wedi hyn arhosodd Jeremeia yng nghyntedd y gwylwyr.
14Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.
14 Anfonodd y Brenin Sedeceia i gyrchu'r proffwyd Jeremeia ato yn y trydydd cyntedd i du375?'r ARGLWYDD, a dywedodd wrth Jeremeia, "Yr wyf am ofyn rhywbeth i ti; paid chelu dim oddi wrthyf."
15Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?
15 Dywedodd Jeremeia wrth Sedeceia, "Os mynegaf i ti, oni roi fi i farwolaeth? Os rhof gyngor i ti, ni wrandewi arnaf."
16So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
16 Ond tyngodd y Brenin Sedeceia wrth Jeremeia yn gyfrinachol, "Cyn wired bod yr ARGLWYDD, a roes einioes inni, yn fyw, ni'th rof i farwolaeth, na'th roi yng ngafael y rhai hyn sy'n ceisio dy einioes."
17Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
17 Yna dywedodd Jeremeia wrth Sedeceia, "Fel hyn y dywed yr ARGLWYDD, Duw'r Lluoedd, Duw Israel: 'Os ei allan ac ymostwng i swyddogion brenin Babilon, yna byddi fyw, ac ni losgir y ddinas hon thn; byddi fyw, ti a'th dylwyth.
18But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
18 Os nad ei allan at swyddogion brenin Babilon, rhoir y ddinas hon yng ngafael y Caldeaid, ac fe'i llosgant hi thn, ac ni fyddi dithau'n dianc o'u gafael.'"
19And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.
19 A dywedodd y Brenin Sedeceia wrth Jeremeia, "Y mae arnaf ofn yr Iddewon a drodd at y Caldeaid, rhag iddynt fy rhoi yn eu gafael ac iddynt fy ngham-drin."
20But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
20 Dywedodd Jeremeia, "Ni'th roddir yn eu gafael. Gwrando yn awr ar lais yr ARGLWYDD yn yr hyn yr wyf yn ei lefaru wrthyt, a bydd yn dda iti, a chedwir dy einioes.
21But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
21 Os gwrthodi fynd allan, dyma'r gair a ddatguddiodd yr ARGLWYDD i mi:
22And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back.
22 'Wele, caiff yr holl wragedd a adawyd yn nhu375? brenin Jwda eu dwyn allan at swyddogion brenin Babilon, ac fe ddywedant, "Hudodd dy gyfeillion di, a buont yn drech na thi; yn awr, a'th draed wedi glynu yn y llaid, troesant draw oddi wrthyt."'
23So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
23 Dygir allan dy holl wragedd a'th blant at y Caldeaid, ac ni ddihengi dithau o'u gafael, ond fe'th ddelir yng ngafael brenin Babilon, a llosgir y ddinas hon thn."
24Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
24 Yna dywedodd Sedeceia wrth Jeremeia, "Paid gadael i neb wybod am y geiriau hyn, ac ni fyddi farw.
25But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
25 Ond os clyw'r swyddogion i mi ymddiddan thi, a dod atat a dweud wrthyt, 'Mynega i ni beth a draethodd y brenin wrthyt ti, a beth a ddywedaist wrth y brenin; paid chelu dim oddi wrthym, ac ni'th roddwn i farwolaeth',
26Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.
26 yna dywedi wrthynt, 'Yr oeddwn yn gwneud cais yn ostyngedig i'r brenin, ar iddo beidio 'm gyrru'n l i du375? Jonathan i farw yno.'"
27Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
27 Pan ddaeth yr holl swyddogion at Jeremeia, a'i holi, mynegodd ef iddynt bob peth yn l gorchymyn y brenin. A pheidiasant 'i holi ragor, ac ni chlywyd am y neges.
28So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.
28 Ac arhosodd Jeremeia yng nghyntedd y gwylwyr hyd y dydd y syrthiodd Jerwsalem, ac yr oedd yno pan syrthiodd Jerwsalem.
