1Elihu spake moreover, and said,
1Elihu antwoordde verder, en zeide:
2Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?
2Houdt gij dat voor recht, dat gij gezegd hebt: Mijn gerechtigheid is meerder dan Gods?
3For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?
3Want gij hebt gezegd: Wat zou zij u baten? Wat meer voordeel zal ik daarmede doen, dan met mijn zonde?
4I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.
4Ik zal u antwoord geven, en uw vrienden met u.
5Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.
5Bemerk den hemel en zie; en aanschouw de bovenste wolken, zij zijn hoger dan gij.
6If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
6Indien gij zondigt, wat bedrijft gij tegen Hem? Indien uw overtredingen menigvuldig zijn, wat doet gij Hem?
7If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
7Indien gij rechtvaardig zijt, wat geeft gij Hem, of wat ontvangt Hij uit uw hand?
8Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.
8Uw goddeloosheid zou zijn tegen een man, gelijk gij zijt, en uw gerechtigheid voor eens mensen kind.
9By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
9Vanwege hun grootheid doen zij de onderdrukten roepen; zij schreeuwen vanwege den arm der groten.
10But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
10Maar niemand zegt: Waar is God, mijn Maker, Die de psalmen geeft in den nacht?
11Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
11Die ons geleerder maakt dan de beesten der aarde, en ons wijzer maakt dan het gevogelte des hemels?
12There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.
12Daar roepen zij; maar Hij antwoordt niet, vanwege den hoogmoed der bozen.
13Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
13Gewisselijk zal God de ijdelheid niet verhoren, en de Almachtige zal die niet aanschouwen.
14Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.
14Dat gij ook gezegd hebt: Gij zult Hem niet aanschouwen; er is nochtans gericht voor Zijn aangezicht, wacht gij dan op Hem.
15But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:
15Maar nu, dewijl het niets is, dat Zijn toorn Job bezocht heeft, en Hij hem niet zeer in overvloed doorkend heeft;
16Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
16Zo heeft Job in ijdelheid zijn mond geopend, en zonder wetenschap woorden vermenigvuldigd.
