¹After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

²Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand.

³His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.

⁴For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

⁴sest keegi ei tee midagi salajas, kui ta ise tahab olla üldsusele tuntud. Kui sa teed selliseid asju, siis avalda ennast maailmale!'

⁵For neither did his brethren believe in him.

⁵Isegi Jeesuse vennad ei uskunud temasse.

⁶Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.

⁶Siis ütles Jeesus neile: 'Minu aeg ei ole veel käes, aga teil on alati paras aeg.

⁷The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

⁷Maailm ei saa teid vihata, mind see aga vihkab, sest mina tunnistan selle kohta, et selle teod on kurjad.

⁸Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come.

⁹When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.

⁹Ta ütles seda neile ja jäi Galileasse.

¹⁰But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

¹⁰Aga kui Jeesuse vennad olid pühiks üles läinud, läks temagi, aga ta ei läinud avalikult, vaid otsekui salaja.

¹¹Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

¹¹Siis juudid otsisid Jeesust pühadeks kogunenute hulgast ja küsisid: 'Kus ta on?'

¹²And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.

¹²Ja rahvahulgas sosistati rohkesti tema kohta, ühed ütlesid, et ta on hea, teised, et ei ole, vaid ta eksitab rahvast.

¹³Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

¹³Ometi ei rääkinud keegi temast avalikult, sest kõik kartsid juute.

¹⁴Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.

¹⁴Alles pühade keskpaiku läks Jeesus üles pühakotta ja õpetas.

¹⁵And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

¹⁵Juudid panid seda imeks ja ütlesid: 'Kuidas see tunneb Kirja ilma õppimata?'

¹⁶Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

¹⁶Siis Jeesus vastas neile: 'Minu õpetus ei ole minu, vaid tema oma, kes minu on saatnud.

¹⁷If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

¹⁷Kui keegi tahab teha tema tahtmist, küll ta tunneb õpetusest ära, kas see on Jumalast või räägin ma iseenesest.

¹⁸He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

¹⁸Iseenese mõtete esitaja taotleb tunnustust iseendale, aga kes taotleb tunnustust sellele, kes ta on saatnud, see on tõene ning temas ei ole valet.

¹⁹Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

²⁰The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?

²¹Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.

²¹Jeesus kostis: 'Ma tegin ühe teo, ja te kõik panete imeks.

²²Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.

²²Eks ole: Mooses on andnud teile ümberlõikamise - kuigi see ei ole pärit Mooseselt, vaid esiisadelt - ja te lõikate inimese ümber ka hingamispäeval.

²³If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

²³Kui inimese peab ümber lõikama hingamispäeval, et Moosese Seadus ei jääks täitmata, miks te siis minu peale tigedad olete, et ma olen kogu inimese terveks teinud hingamispäeval?

²⁴Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

²⁴Ärge tehke kohtuotsust näo järgi, vaid tehke õiglane otsus!'

²⁵Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?

²⁵Siis mõned jeruusalemlastest ütlesid: 'Eks ta ole seesama, kelle tapmiseks nad otsivad võimalust?

²⁶But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

²⁶Ja ennäe, ta räägib avalikult, ja talle ei öelda midagi! Kas ehk ülemad on tõesti ära tundnud, et tema ongi Messias?

²⁷Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

²⁷Kuid me teame teda, kust ta on pärit, aga kui tuleb Messias, siis ei tea keegi, kust ta on.'

²⁸Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

²⁸Siis hüüdis Jeesus pühakojas õpetades valjusti: 'Jah, mind te teate ja teate ka, kust ma olen. Ent mina ei ole tulnud iseenesest, vaid tõeline on tema, kes minu on saatnud ja keda teie ei tunne.

²⁹But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.

²⁹Mina tunnen teda, sest ma olen tulnud tema juurest ja tema on minu läkitanud.'

³⁰Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

³⁰Nüüd nad otsisid võimalust teda vahistada, ometi ei pannud keegi kätt ta külge, sest tema tund ei olnud veel tulnud.

³¹And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?

³¹Aga rahvahulgast uskusid temasse paljud, ja need ütlesid: 'Kui Messias tuleb, kas ta teeb rohkem tunnustähti, kui tema on teinud?'

³²The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

³²Kui variserid kuulsid rahvahulka omavahel nõnda tema üle sosistamas, läkitasid nemad ja ülempreestrid sulaseid teda vahistama.

³³Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.

³³Siis ütles Jeesus: 'Ma olen teie seas veel ainult pisut aega ning siis ma lähen selle juurde, kes minu on saatnud.

³⁴Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.

³⁴Te otsite mind, ent ei leia, ja kus mina olen, sinna ei saa teie tulla.'

³⁵Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?

³⁵Siis juudid ütlesid üksteisele: 'Kuhu ta kavatseb minna, nii et me teda ei leia? Ega ta ometi lähe nende juurde, kes elavad kreeklaste seas, ja hakka õpetama kreeklasi?

³⁶What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?

³⁶Mida tähendab see sõna, mis ta ütles: Te otsite mind, ent ei leia, ja kus mina olen, sinna ei saa teie tulla?'

³⁷In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

³⁷Aga pühade viimasel, suurel päeval seisis Jeesus ja hüüdis valjusti: 'Kellel on janu, see tulgu minu juurde ja joogu!

³⁸He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

³⁸Kes usub minusse, nagu ütleb Kiri, selle ihust voolavad elava vee jõed.'

³⁹(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

³⁹Aga seda ta ütles Vaimu kohta, kelle pidid saama temasse uskujad; sest veel ei olnud Vaimu, kuna Jeesus ei olnud veel kirgastatud.

⁴⁰Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.

⁴⁰Siis ütlesid mõned rahva seast, kes seda kõnet kuulsid: 'Tema on tõesti prohvet.'

⁴¹Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?

⁴¹Teised ütlesid: 'Tema on Messias.' Aga paljud ütlesid: 'Ega siis Messias tule Galileast?

⁴²Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

⁴²Eks Kiri ütle, et Messias tuleb Taaveti järglaste seast ja Petlemma külast, kust oli Taavet.'

⁴³So there was a division among the people because of him.

⁴³Siis tekkis rahva hulgas lahkmeel Jeesuse pärast.

⁴⁴And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

⁴⁴Mõned neist tahtsid teda vahistada, kuid ükski ei pannud kätt tema külge.

⁴⁵Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?

⁴⁵Templisulased läksid nüüd ülempreestrite ja variseride juurde tagasi, ja nood küsisid neilt: 'Miks te ei toonud teda?'

⁴⁶The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

⁴⁶Templisulased vastasid: 'Ükski inimene ei ole veel kunagi nõnda rääkinud nagu see inimene.'

⁴⁷Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?

⁴⁷Siis variserid vastasid neile: 'Kas teiegi olete lasknud ennast eksitada?

⁴⁸Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?

⁴⁸Kas üksainuski ülemaist või variseridest on temasse uskunud?

⁴⁹But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.

⁴⁹Kuid see rahvahulk, kes ei tunne Seadust, on neetud!'

⁵⁰Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)

⁵⁰Nikodeemos, kes kord varem oli Jeesuse juures käinud ja oli üks nende seast, ütles neile:

⁵¹Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?

⁵¹'Ega siis meie Seadus mõista inimest süüdi, enne kui teda on üle kuulatud ja teada saadud, mida ta on teinud?'

⁵²They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

⁵²Nad kostsid talle: 'Kas ka sina oled Galileast? Uuri järele, ja sa näed: Galileast ei tõuse prohvetit!'

⁵³And every man went unto his own house.

⁵³[Ja igaüks läks koju.
