¹At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

¹Tol ajal sai nelivürst Heroodes kuulda, mida Jeesusest räägiti.

²And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

²Ja ta ütles oma meestele: 'See on Ristija Johannes! Tema on üles äratatud surnuist ja seepärast toimivad imeväed tema kaudu.'

³For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

³Heroodes oli ju Johannese kinni võtnud, aheldanud ja pannud vanglasse Heroodiase, oma venna Filippuse naise pärast,

⁴For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

⁴sest Johannes oli talle öelnud: 'Sa ei tohi teda pidada!'

⁵And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

⁵Ja Heroodes oleks tahtnud Johannese tappa, kuid kartis rahvast, sest Johannest peeti prohvetiks.

⁶But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

⁶Aga kui tuli Heroodese sünnipäev, tantsis Heroodiase tütar nende keskel ja meeldis Heroodesele,

⁷Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

⁷nõnda et ta vandega tõotas talle anda, mida ta iganes soovib.

⁸And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

⁸Tema aga lausus oma ema õhutusel: 'Anna mulle vaagnal Ristija Johannese pea!'

⁹And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

⁹Kuningas kurvastas, kuid vande ja piduliste pärast käskis talle selle anda.

¹⁰And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

¹⁰Ja ta saatis vanglasse mehed Johannesel pead otsast lööma.

¹¹And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

¹¹Ja Johannese pea toodi vaagnal ja anti tüdrukule ning too viis selle oma emale.

¹²And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

¹²Ja Johannese jüngrid tulid, viisid ta surnukeha ära ja matsid maha ning tulid ja teatasid sellest Jeesusele.

¹³When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

¹³Kui Jeesus sai sellest kuulda, eemaldus ta sealt paadiga tühja paika, et olla omaette. Ja kui rahvahulgad sellest kuulsid, järgnesid nad talle jalgsi linnadest.

¹⁴And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

¹⁴Ja kui Jeesus astus paadist välja ja nägi suurt rahvahulka, läks ta meel haledaks ning ta tervendas nende haiged.

¹⁵And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

¹⁵Õhtu jõudes aga astusid Jeesuse jüngrid ta juurde ja ütlesid: 'Paik on üksildane ja aeg juba hiline, lase nüüd rahvahulgad ära minna, et nad läheksid küladesse endale süüa otsima!'

¹⁶But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

¹⁶Aga Jeesus ütles neile: 'Neil ei ole tarvis ära minna. Andke teie neile süüa!'

¹⁷And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

¹⁷Nemad aga ütlesid talle: 'Meil ei ole siin rohkem kui vaid viis leiba ja kaks kala.'

¹⁸He said, Bring them hither to me.

¹⁸Aga tema ütles: 'Tooge need mulle siia!'

¹⁹And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

¹⁹Ja Jeesus käskis rahvahulkadel istuda rohule, võttis need viis leiba ja kaks kala, vaatas üles taevasse, õnnistas ja murdis ning andis leivad jüngrite kätte, jüngrid aga andsid need rahvale.

²⁰And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

²⁰Ja kõik sõid ja said kõhud täis. Ja ülejäänud palakesi korjati kaksteist korvitäit.

²¹And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

²¹Aga sööjaid oli ligi viis tuhat meest, peale selle veel naised ja lapsed.

²²And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

²²Ja Jeesus käskis sedamaid oma jüngreid paati astuda ja sõita vastaskaldale tema eele, sellal kui ta laseb rahvahulkadel minna.

²³And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

²³Kui ta siis rahvahulgad oli minema lasknud, läks ta üles mäele üksinda palvetama. Ja õhtu jõudes oli ta seal üksinda.

²⁴But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

²⁴Aga paat oli juba hulga maad kaldast eemaldunud, heitlemas lainetega, sest tuul oli vastu.

²⁵And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

²⁵Ent neljandal öövahikorral tuli Jeesus nende juurde järve peal kõndides.

²⁶And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

²⁶Aga Jeesust järve peal kõndimas nähes ütlesid jüngrid kohkunult: 'See on tont!' ja hakkasid hirmu pärast kisendama.

²⁷But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

²⁷Aga Jeesus kõnetas neid sedamaid: 'Olge julged, see olen mina, ärge kartke!'

²⁸And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

²⁸Peetrus vastas: 'Issand, kui see oled sina, siis käsi mind tulla enda juurde vee peale!'

²⁹And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

²⁹Tema ütles: 'Tule!' Ja Peetrus astus paadist välja ning kõndis vee peal ja tuli Jeesuse juurde.

³⁰But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

³⁰Aga tuult nähes lõi ta kartma ja hüüdis uppuma hakates: 'Issand, päästa mind!'

³¹And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

³¹Jeesus sirutas kohe oma käe, haaras temast kinni ning ütles talle: 'Sa nõdrausuline, miks sa kahtlesid?'

³²And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

³²Ja kui nad astusid paati, rauges tuul.

³³Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

³³Paadisolijad aga kummardasid teda ja ütlesid: 'Tõesti, sina oled Jumala Poeg!'

³⁴And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

³⁴Ja kui nad olid sõitnud üle järve, siis nad tulid maale Genneesaretis.

³⁵And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

³⁵Ja kui selle koha mehed Jeesuse ära tundsid, läkitasid nad sõna kogu ümbruskonda ja tema juurde toodi kõik haiged

³⁶And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

³⁶ja need palusid teda, et nad saaksid üksnes puudutada tema kuue palistust, ja kes iganes teda puudutas, sai terveks.
