1And God spake all these words, saying,
1Niin Jumala puhui kaiken tämän:
2I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
2"Minä olen Herra, sinun Jumalasi, joka johdatin sinut pois Egyptistä, orjuuden maasta.
3Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
3"Sinulla ei saa olla muita jumalia.
4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
4"Älä tee itsellesi patsasta äläkä muutakaan jumalankuvaa, älä siitä, mikä on ylhäällä taivaalla, älä siitä, mikä on alhaalla maan päällä, äläkä siitä, mikä on vesissä maan alla.
5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
5Älä kumarra äläkä palvele niitä, sillä minä, Herra, sinun Jumalasi, olen kiivas Jumala. Aina kolmanteen ja neljänteen polveen minä panen lapset vastaamaan isiensä pahoista teoista, vaadin tilille ne, jotka vihaavat minua.
6And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
6Mutta polvesta polveen minä osoitan armoni niille tuhansille, jotka rakastavat minua ja noudattavat minun käskyjäni.
7Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
7"Älä käytä väärin Herran, Jumalasi, nimeä, sillä Herra ei jätä rankaisematta sitä, joka käyttää väärin hänen nimeään.
8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
8"Muista pyhittää lepopäivä.
9Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
9Kuutena päivänä tee työtä ja hoida kaikkia tehtäviäsi,
10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
10mutta seitsemäs päivä on Herran, sinun Jumalasi, sapatti. Silloin et saa tehdä mitään työtä, et sinä eikä sinun poikasi eikä tyttäresi, orjasi eikä orjattaresi, ei juhtasi eikä yksikään muukalainen, joka asuu kaupungissasi.
11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
11Sillä kuutena päivänä Herra teki taivaan ja maan ja meren ja kaiken, mitä niissä on, mutta seitsemännen päivän hän lepäsi. Sen vuoksi Herra siunasi lepopäivän ja pyhitti sen.
12Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
12"Kunnioita isääsi ja äitiäsi, että saisit elää kauan siinä maassa, jonka Herra, sinun Jumalasi, sinulle antaa.
13Thou shalt not kill.
13"Älä tapa.
14Thou shalt not commit adultery.
14"Älä tee aviorikosta.
15Thou shalt not steal.
15"Älä varasta.
16Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
16"Älä todista valheellisesti toista ihmistä vastaan.
17Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.
17"Älä tavoittele toisen taloa. Älä tavoittele hänen vaimoaan, älä orjaa tai orjatarta, älä hänen härkäänsä, älä hänen aasiaan äläkä mitään, mikä on hänen."
18And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
18Koko kansa oli todistamassa jylinää ja leimahtelua. Se kuuli, miten torvi soi, ja näki, miten vuori savusi. Ihmiset vapisivat tämän nähdessään ja pysyttelivät loitolla.
19And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
19He sanoivat Moosekselle: "Puhu sinä meille, me kuuntelemme. Mutta Jumala älköön puhuko meidän kanssamme, se on meille kuolemaksi."
20And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
20Mooses vastasi kansalle: "Älkää pelätkö. Jumala on tullut tänne pannakseen teidät koetukselle ja herättääkseen teissä pelon ja kunnioituksen häntä kohtaan, ettette enää tekisi syntiä."
21And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
21Niin kansa pysytteli loitolla, mutta Mooses lähestyi tummaa pilveä, jossa Jumala oli.
22And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
22Herra sanoi Moosekselle: "Sinun tulee sanoa israelilaisille: Te itse näitte, että minä puhuin teille ylhäältä taivaasta.
23Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
23Älkää asettako mitään minun rinnalleni, älkää tehkö itsellenne jumalia hopeasta tai kullasta.
24An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.
24Rakentakaa maa-alttari minua varten ja uhratkaa sillä polttouhrinne ja yhteysuhrinne, lampaanne ja nautanne. Paikassa, jonka pyhitän omalle nimelleni, minä tulen luoksenne ja siunaan teitä.
25And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
25Mutta jos teette minulle kivialttarin, älkää tehkö sitä hakatuista kivistä, sillä jos käsittelette kiveä teräaseella, teette sen epäpyhäksi.
26Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.
26Älkääkä tehkö minun alttarilleni portaita, ettei niitä noustessanne häpynne paljastuisi.
