1Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.
1(H12:2)Efraim tavoittelee tuulta, ajaa takaa idän myrskyä, aina se valehtelee, aina se pettää. Assyrian kanssa se tekee liiton, mutta oliiviöljynsä se vie Egyptiin.
2The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.
2(H12:3) -- Herra käy oikeutta Juudan kanssa, rankaisee Jaakobia tekojen mukaan, kääntää hänen tekonsa häntä itseään vastaan.
3He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:
3(H12:4)Jo äidinkohdussa Jaakob petti veljensä, miehuutensa päivinä hän kamppaili Jumalan kanssa.
4Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us;
4(H12:5)Hän paini enkelin kanssa ja voitti, hän itki ja anoi armoa. Betelissä hän kohtasi Jumalan, siellä Jumala puhui hänen kanssaan.
5Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.
5(H12:6)Herra on kaikkivaltias Jumala, hänen nimensä on Herra!
6Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment and wait on thy God continually.
6(H12:7)Käänny siis Jumalasi puoleen, ole uskollinen ja noudata oikeutta ja pane aina toivosi Jumalaan.
7He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
7(H12:8) -- Efraim on kuin kanaanilainen kauppamies, kädessään väärä vaaka.
8And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.
8(H12:9)Efraim sanoo: "Kylläpä olenkin rikastunut ja hankkinut paljon omaisuutta! Minun hankkeistani ette löydä mitään pahaa, kukaan ei voi syyttää minua vääryydestä."
9And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
9(H12:10)Mutta minä olen Herra, sinun Jumalasi, minä toin sinut Egyptistä. Minä panen sinut jälleen asumaan teltoissa, niin kuin asuit silloin, kun kohtasin sinut.
10I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
10(H12:11)Minä olen puhunut profeetoille, minä olen antanut heille näkyjä, he ovat puhuneet vertauskuvin ja ilmoittaneet minun tahtoni.
11Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
11(H12:12) -- Gilead oli täynnä pahuutta ja harhaa. Jo Gilgalissa Efraim uhrasi sonneja epäjumalille, mutta sen alttarit murskataan, niin että ne ovat kuin kivikasoja keskellä peltoa.
12And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
12(H12:13)Jaakob pakeni Aramin maahan, hän joutui orjaksi naisen tähden, naisen tähden hän paimensi karjaa.
13And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
13(H12:14)Herra toi Israelin Egyptistä, profeetta sitä johti, profeetta sitä paimensi.
14Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his LORD return unto him.
14(H12:15)Nyt Efraim on katkeroittanut Herran mielen. Siksi Herra panee sen vastuuseen veritöistä, kääntää sen häpeälliset teot sitä itseään vastaan.
