¹Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

¹Herra sanoi minulle: "Mene ostamaan itsellesi pellavavyö ja sido se vyötäisillesi. Varo kastelemasta sitä!"

²So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

²Minä ostin vyön ja sidoin sen vyötäisilleni, kuten Herra oli käskenyt.

³And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

³Taas tuli minulle Herran sana:

⁴Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

⁴"Ota mukaasi vyö, jonka olet ostanut ja jota pidät vyötäisilläsi, ja mene Eufratvirralle. Kätke vyö siellä kallionkoloon."

⁵So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

⁵Minä menin Eufratvirran rannalle ja kätkin vyön sinne, niin kuin Herra oli käskenyt.

⁶And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

⁶Pitkän ajan kuluttua Herra sanoi minulle: "Lähde nyt hakemaan takaisin vyö, jonka minä käskin sinun kätkeä Eufratin rantaan."

⁷Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

⁷Niin minä menin Eufratille ja kaivoin vyön esiin paikasta, johon olin sen kätkenyt. Mutta vyö oli mennyt pilalle, siitä ei ollut enää mihinkään.

⁸Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

⁸Silloin minulle tuli tämä Herran sana:

⁹Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

⁹"Näin sanoo Herra: Samalla tavalla minä teen lopun Juudan ja Jerusalemin korskeudesta.

¹⁰This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

¹⁰Tämä paha kansa ei halua kuulla minun sanojani. Sen sydän on paatunut, se seuraa vieraita jumalia, palvelee ja rukoilee niitä. Siksi sille käy samoin kuin tälle vyölle, joka ei kelpaa enää mihinkään.

¹¹For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

¹¹Niin kuin mies sitoo vyön vyötäisilleen, niin olen minä sitonut itseeni koko Israelin heimon ja Juudan heimon, sanoo Herra. Niiden piti olla minun kansani ja tuoda minulle kunniaa, ylistystä ja mainetta, mutta ne eivät totelleet minua.

¹²Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

¹²"Puhu heille nämä sanat: Näin sanoo Herra, Israelin Jumala: viiniruukut ovat sitä varten, että ne täytetään viinillä. Jos sinulle sanotaan: 'Emmekö itsekin tiedä aivan hyvin, että viiniruukut täytetään viinillä?',

¹³Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

¹³niin vastaa: Näin sanoo Herra: Minä täytän viinillä kaikki tässä maassa asuvat, minä juotan juovuksiin niin Daavidin istuimella istuvat kuninkaat kuin papit ja profeetatkin ja kaikki Jerusalemin asukkaat.

¹⁴And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

¹⁴Minä lyön heidät murskaksi toinen toistaan vasten, myös isät ja pojat toinen toistaan vasten, sanoo Herra. Minä en säästä heitä. Armotta ja säälimättä minä teen heistä kaikista lopun."

¹⁵Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.

¹⁵-- Kuunnelkaa tarkasti, herkistäkää korvanne, nujertakaa ylpeytenne -- Herra puhuu!

¹⁶Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹⁶Antakaa Herralle, Jumalallenne, kunnia, ennen kuin tulee pimeä ja te kompastutte hämärillä vuorilla. Silloin te odotatte valoa, mutta hän muuttaa sen pimeydeksi, synkäksi yöksi.

¹⁷But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock is carried away captive.

¹⁷Jos ette ota vastaan tätä varoitusta, minä itken teidän ylpeyttänne. Salassa minä itken ja valitan, kyyneleeni valuvat virtanaan, kun Herran kansa viedään vankeuteen.

¹⁸Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

¹⁸-- Sano kuninkaalle ja kuninkaan äidille: Astukaa alas valtaistuimelta ja nöyrtykää, sillä loistava kruunu on pudonnut päästänne!

¹⁹The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.

¹⁹Etelän kaupungit on menetetty, niihin ei ole pääsyä. Koko Juuda viedään pakkosiirtolaisuuteen, koko kansa joutuu vankeuteen.

²⁰Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

²⁰-- Jerusalem, katso mitä tapahtuu! Vihollinen ryntää pohjoisesta! Miten käy kansasi, joka on uskottu sinun haltuusi kuin uhkea lammaslauma?

²¹What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

²¹Mitä sanot, kun Herra panee käskijöiksesi ne, joita olit tottunut pitämään ystävinä? Eikö tuska silloin polta sinua niin kuin synnyttävää naista?

²²And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.

²²Silloin sinä kysyt mielessäsi: "Miksi minulle on näin käynyt?" Etkö ymmärrä, että monien syntiesi tähden sinun helmasi on nostettu ylös ja sinut on raiskattu!

²³Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

²³-- Voiko nubialainen muuttaa ihonsa väriä tai pantteri täpliään? Yhtä mahdotonta on teidän tehdä hyvää, niin syvälle pahaan te olette juurtuneet!

²⁴Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

²⁴Niin kuin autiomaan tuuli lennättää puimapaikalta akanat, niin minä hajotan teidät.

²⁵This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

²⁵Näin sinulle tulee käymään, Jerusalem! Tämä on se osa, jonka minä olen sinulle määrännyt, sanoo Herra, koska olet unohtanut minut ja luottanut valheeseen.

²⁶Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

²⁶Minä itse nostan helmasi sinun pääsi yli, niin että kaikki saavat nähdä alastomuutesi.

²⁷I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?

²⁷Minä olen nähnyt sinun aviorikoksesi, kiihkeän kiimasi, irstaan haureutesi! Olen nähnyt inhottavat jumalankuvasi kukkuloilla, peltojen liepeillä. Voi sinua, Jerusalem, kun et puhdistu! Kuinka kauan tätä vielä jatkuu?
