¹The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

¹Sapatin mentyä, viikon ensimmäisenä päivänä Magdalan Maria tuli jo aamuhämärissä haudalle ja näki, että haudan suulta oli kivi siirretty pois.

²Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

²Hän lähti juoksujalkaa kertomaan siitä Simon Pietarille ja sille opetuslapselle, joka oli Jeesukselle rakkain, ja sanoi heidät tavattuaan: "Ovat vieneet Herran pois haudasta, emmekä me tiedä, minne hänet on pantu."

³Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.

³Pietari ja se toinen opetuslapsi lähtivät heti juoksemaan haudalle.

⁴So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.

⁴Miehet menivät yhtä matkaa, mutta se toinen opetuslapsi juoksi Pietaria nopeammin ja ehti haudalle ensimmäisenä.

⁵And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.

⁵Hän kurkisti sisään ja näki käärinliinojen olevan siellä, mutta hän ei mennyt sisälle.

⁶Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,

⁶Simon Pietari tuli hänen perässään, meni hautaan ja katseli siellä olevia käärinliinoja.

⁷And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

⁷Hän huomasi, että Jeesuksen kasvoja peittänyt hikiliina ei ollut käärinliinojen vieressä vaan erillään, omana käärönään.

⁸Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.

⁸Nyt tuli sisään myös se toinen opetuslapsi, joka oli ensimmäisenä saapunut haudalle, ja hän näki ja uskoi.

⁹For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

⁹Vielä he näet eivät olleet ymmärtäneet, että kirjoitusten mukaan Jeesus oli nouseva kuolleista.

¹⁰Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

¹⁰Opetuslapset lähtivät haudalta majapaikkaansa.

¹¹But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

¹¹Maria seisoi haudan ovella ja itki. Siinä itkiessään hän kurkisti hautaan

¹²And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

¹²ja näki, että siinä, missä Jeesuksen ruumis oli ollut, istui kaksi valkopukuista enkeliä, toinen pääpuolessa ja toinen jalkopäässä.

¹³And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.

¹³Enkelit sanoivat hänelle: "Mitä itket, nainen?" Hän vastasi: "Minun Herrani on viety pois, enkä tiedä, minne hänet on pantu."

¹⁴And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

¹⁴Tämän sanottuaan hän kääntyi ja näki Jeesuksen seisovan takanaan, mutta ei tajunnut, että se oli Jeesus.

¹⁵Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

¹⁵Jeesus sanoi hänelle: "Mitä itket, nainen? Ketä sinä etsit?" Maria luuli Jeesusta puutarhuriksi ja sanoi: "Herra, jos sinä olet vienyt hänet täältä, niin sano, minne olet hänet pannut. Minä haen hänet pois."

¹⁶Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

¹⁶Silloin Jeesus sanoi hänelle: "Maria." Maria kääntyi ja sanoi: "Rabbuuni!" -- se on hepreaa ja merkitsee: opettajani.

¹⁷Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

¹⁷Jeesus sanoi: "Älä koske minuun. Minä en vielä ole noussut Isän luo. Mene sinä viemään sanaa veljilleni ja sano heille, että minä nousen oman Isäni ja teidän Isänne luo, oman Jumalani ja teidän Jumalanne luo."

¹⁸Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

¹⁸Magdalan Maria riensi opetuslasten luo ja ilmoitti: "Minä olen nähnyt Herran!" Sitten hän kertoi, mitä Herra oli hänelle sanonut.

¹⁹Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

¹⁹Samana päivänä, viikon ensimmäisenä, opetuslapset olivat illalla koolla lukittujen ovien takana, sillä he pelkäsivät juutalaisia. Yhtäkkiä Jeesus seisoi heidän keskellään ja sanoi: "Rauha teille!"

²⁰And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD.

²⁰Tämän sanottuaan hän näytti heille kätensä ja kylkensä. Ilo valtasi opetuslapset, kun he näkivät Herran.

²¹Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

²¹Jeesus sanoi uudelleen: "Rauha teille! Niin kuin Isä on lähettänyt minut, niin lähetän minä teidät."

²²And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

²²Sanottuaan tämän hän puhalsi heitä kohti ja sanoi: "Ottakaa Pyhä Henki.

²³Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

²³Jolle te annatte synnit anteeksi, hänelle ne ovat anteeksi annetut. Jolta te kiellätte anteeksiannon, hän ei saa syntejään anteeksi."

²⁴But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

²⁴Yksi kahdestatoista opetuslapsesta, Tuomas, josta käytettiin myös nimeä Didymos, ei ollut muiden joukossa, kun Jeesus tuli.

²⁵The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

²⁵Toiset opetuslapset kertoivat hänelle: "Me näimme Herran." Mutta Tuomas sanoi: "En usko. Jos en itse näe naulanjälkiä hänen käsissään ja pistä sormeani niihin ja jos en pistä kättäni hänen kylkeensä, minä en usko."

²⁶And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

²⁶Viikon kuluttua Jeesuksen opetuslapset olivat taas koolla, ja Tuomas oli toisten joukossa. Ovet olivat lukossa, mutta yhtäkkiä Jeesus seisoi heidän keskellään ja sanoi: "Rauha teille!"

²⁷Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

²⁷Sitten hän sanoi Tuomaalle: "Ojenna sormesi: tässä ovat käteni. Ojenna kätesi ja pistä se kylkeeni. Älä ole epäuskoinen, vaan usko!"

²⁸And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.

²⁸Silloin Tuomas sanoi: "Minun Herrani ja Jumalani!"

²⁹Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

²⁹Jeesus sanoi hänelle: "Sinä uskot, koska sait nähdä minut. Autuaita ne, jotka uskovat, vaikka eivät näe."

³⁰And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

³⁰Monia muitakin tunnustekoja Jeesus teki opetuslastensa nähden, mutta niistä ei ole kerrottu tässä kirjassa.

³¹But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

³¹Tämä on kirjoitettu siksi, että te uskoisitte Jeesuksen olevan Kristus, Jumalan Poika, ja että teillä, kun uskotte, olisi elämä hänen nimensä tähden.
