¹When therefore the LORD knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

¹Jeesus sai tietää fariseusten kuulleen, että hän kokosi ympärilleen enemmän opetuslapsia ja kastoi useampia kuin Johannes --

²(Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

²tosin hän ei itse kastanut, vaan hänen opetuslapsensa.

³He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

³Silloin hän lähti Juudeasta ja siirtyi takaisin Galileaan.

⁴And he must needs go through Samaria.

⁴Hänen oli kuljettava Samarian kautta.

⁵Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

⁵Matkallaan Jeesus tuli Sykar-nimiseen Samarian kaupunkiin. Sen lähellä oli maa-alue, jonka Jaakob oli antanut pojalleen Joosefille,

⁶Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

⁶ja siellä oli Jaakobin kaivo. Matkasta uupuneena Jeesus istahti kaivolle. Oli keskipäivä, noin kuudes tunti.

⁷There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

⁷Eräs samarialainen nainen tuli noutamaan vettä, ja Jeesus sanoi hänelle: "Anna minun juoda astiastasi."

⁸(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

⁸Opetuslapset olivat menneet kaupunkiin ostamaan ruokaa.

⁹Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

⁹Samarialaisnainen sanoi: "Sinähän olet juutalainen, kuinka sinä pyydät juotavaa samarialaiselta naiselta?" Juutalaiset eivät näet ole missään tekemisissä samarialaisten kanssa.

¹⁰Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹⁰Jeesus sanoi naiselle: "Jos tietäisit, minkä lahjan Jumala on antanut, ja ymmärtäisit, kuka sinulta pyytää juotavaa, pyytäisit itse häneltä, ja hän antaisi sinulle elävää vettä."

¹¹The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

¹¹Nainen sanoi: "Herra, eihän sinulla edes ole astiaa, ja kaivo on syvä. Mistä sinä lähdevettä ottaisit?

¹²Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

¹²Et kai sinä ole suurempi kuin isämme Jaakob, jolta olemme saaneet tämän kaivon? Hän joi itse tämän kaivon vettä, ja sitä joivat hänen poikansa ja hänen karjansakin."

¹³Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

¹³Jeesus vastasi hänelle: "Joka juo tätä vettä, sen tulee uudelleen jano,

¹⁴But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

¹⁴mutta joka juo minun antamaani vettä, ei enää koskaan ole janoissaan. Siitä vedestä, jota minä annan, tulee hänessä lähde, joka kumpuaa ikuisen elämän vettä."

¹⁵The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

¹⁵Nainen sanoi: "Herra, anna minulle sitä vettä. Silloin minun ei enää tule jano eikä minun tarvitse käydä täällä veden haussa."

¹⁶Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

¹⁶Jeesus sanoi hänelle: "Mene hakemaan miehesikin tänne."

¹⁷The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

¹⁷"Ei minulla ole miestä", nainen vastasi. Jeesus sanoi: "Totta puhuit: ei sinulla ole miestä.

¹⁸For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

¹⁸Viisi miestä sinulla on ollut, ja se, jonka kanssa nyt elät, ei ole sinun miehesi. Siinä puhuit totta."

¹⁹The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

¹⁹Nainen sanoi: "Herra, minä huomaan, että sinä olet profeetta.

²⁰Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

²⁰Meidän isämme ovat kumartaneet ja rukoilleet Jumalaa tällä vuorella, kun taas te väitätte, että oikea paikka rukoilla on Jerusalemissa."

²¹Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

²¹Jeesus vastasi: "Usko minua, nainen: tulee aika, jolloin ette rukoile Isää tällä vuorella ettekä Jerusalemissa.

²²Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

²²Te kumarratte sellaista, mitä ette tunne, mutta me kumarramme häntä, jonka tunnemme, sillä pelastaja nousee juutalaisten keskuudesta.

²³But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

²³Tulee aika -- ja se on jo nyt -- jolloin kaikki oikeat rukoilijat rukoilevat Isää hengessä ja totuudessa. Sellaisia rukoilijoita Isä tahtoo.

²⁴God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

²⁴Jumala on henki, ja siksi niiden, jotka häntä rukoilevat, tulee rukoilla hengessä ja totuudessa."

²⁵The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

²⁵Nainen sanoi: "Minä tiedän kyllä, että Messias tulee." -- Messias tarkoittaa Kristusta. -- "Kun hän tulee, hän ilmoittaa meille kaiken."

²⁶Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

²⁶Jeesus sanoi: "Minä se olen, minä, joka tässä puhun kanssasi."

²⁷And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

²⁷Juuri silloin tulivat opetuslapset paikalle. Heitä hämmästytti, että Jeesus puhui naisen kanssa, mutta kukaan ei kuitenkaan kysynyt, mitä hän tahtoi ja miksi hän puhui naiselle.

²⁸The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

²⁸Nainen jätti vesiruukkunsa siihen, meni kaupunkiin ja sanoi ihmisille:

²⁹Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

²⁹"Tulkaa katsomaan, tuolla on mies, joka kertoi minulle kaiken mitä olen tehnyt! Olisiko hän Messias?"

³⁰Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

³⁰Ihmiset lähtivät kaupungista ja tulivat Jeesuksen luo.

³¹In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.

³¹Sillä välin opetuslapset sanoivat Jeesukselle: "Rabbi, tule syömään."

³²But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

³²Mutta hän sanoi heille: "Minulla on ruokaa, josta te ette tiedä."

³³Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

³³Opetuslapset kummastelivat keskenään: "Onko joku tuonut hänelle syötävää?"

³⁴Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

³⁴Mutta Jeesus jatkoi: "Minun ruokani on se, että täytän lähettäjäni tahdon ja vien hänen työnsä päätökseen.

³⁵Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

³⁵Te sanotte: 'Neljä kuuta kylvöstä korjuuseen.' Minä sanon: Katsokaa tuonne! Vainio on jo vaalennut, vilja on kypsä korjattavaksi.

³⁶And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

³⁶Sadonkorjaaja saa palkkansa jo nyt, hän kokoaa satoa iankaikkiseen elämään, ja kylväjä saa iloita yhdessä korjaajan kanssa.

³⁷And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

³⁷Tässä pitää paikkansa sanonta: 'Toinen kylvää, toinen korjaa.'

³⁸I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

³⁸Minä olen lähettänyt teidät korjaamaan satoa, josta ette ole nähneet vaivaa. Toiset ovat tehneet työn, mutta te pääsette korjaamaan heidän vaivannäkönsä hedelmät."

³⁹And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

³⁹Monet tuon Samarian kaupungin asukkaista uskoivat Jeesukseen kuultuaan naisen todistavan: "Hän kertoi minulle kaiken mitä olen tehnyt."

⁴⁰So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

⁴⁰Kun samarialaiset tulivat Jeesuksen luo, he pyysivät häntä jäämään kaupunkiin, ja hän jäikin sinne kahdeksi päiväksi.

⁴¹And many more believed because of his own word;

⁴¹Yhä useammat uskoivat Jeesukseen kuultuaan hänen itsensä puhuvan,

⁴²And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

⁴²ja he sanoivat naiselle: "Nyt emme enää usko vain sinun puheesi perusteella. Me olemme nyt itse kuulleet häntä ja tiedämme, että hän todella on maailman pelastaja."

⁴³Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

⁴³Kahden päivän kuluttua Jeesus sitten lähti Galileaan.

⁴⁴For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

⁴⁴Hän oli itse sanonut, ettei profeettaa pidetä arvossa kotiseudullaan,

⁴⁵Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

⁴⁵mutta kun hän nyt tuli Galileaan, galilealaiset ottivat hänet ystävällisesti vastaan. Hekin olivat käyneet Jerusalemissa juhlilla ja nähneet, mitä Jeesus siellä juhlan aikana teki.

⁴⁶So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

⁴⁶Jeesus tuli taas Galilean Kaanaan, missä hän oli muuttanut veden viiniksi. Kapernaumissa oli kuninkaan virkamies, jonka poika oli sairaana.

⁴⁷When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

⁴⁷Kuultuaan Jeesuksen tulleen Juudeasta Galileaan hän lähti Jeesuksen luo ja pyysi, että tämä tulisi parantamaan pojan, joka oli kuolemaisillaan.

⁴⁸Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

⁴⁸Jeesus sanoi hänelle: "Te ette usko, ellette näe tunnustekoja ja ihmeitä."

⁴⁹The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

⁴⁹Mutta virkamies pyysi: "Herra, tule, ennen kuin poikani kuolee."

⁵⁰Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

⁵⁰Silloin Jeesus sanoi: "Mene kotiisi. Poikasi elää." Mies uskoi, mitä Jeesus hänelle sanoi, ja lähti.

⁵¹And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.

⁵¹Jo kesken matkan tulivat hänen palvelijansa häntä vastaan ja kertoivat pojan parantuneen.

⁵²Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

⁵²Mies kysyi heiltä, mihin aikaan poika oli alkanut toipua, ja he sanoivat: "Eilen seitsemännellä tunnilla kuume hellitti."

⁵³So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

⁵³Silloin isä ymmärsi, että se oli tapahtunut juuri silloin, kun Jeesus sanoi hänelle: "Poikasi elää", ja hän ja koko hänen talonsa väki uskoivat Jeesukseen.

⁵⁴This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.

⁵⁴Tämä oli Jeesuksen toinen tunnusteko, ja hän teki sen tultuaan Juudeasta Galileaan.
