¹Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

¹(H2:2)Hän rukoili Herraa, Jumalaansa, kalan sisuksissa

²And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

²(H2:3)ja sanoi: -- Ahdingossani minä kutsun Herraa avuksi, ja hän vastaa minulle. Tuonelan kohdusta minä huudan apua, ja sinä, Herra, kuulet ääneni.

³For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

³Sinä heitit minut syvyyteen, merten sydämeen, ja virta ympäröi minut. Sinun tyrskysi ja aaltosi vyöryivät ylitseni.

⁴Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

⁴(H2:5)Minä ajattelin: "Minut on sysätty pois sinun silmiesi edestä. Kuitenkin minä yhä tähyilen pyhää temppeliäsi kohti."

⁵The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

⁵(H2:6)Vedet nousivat kaulaani asti, syvyydet saartoivat minut, kaislat kietoutuivat päähäni.

⁶I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

⁶(H2:7)Vuorten pohjiin minä painuin, vajosin syvyyksien maahan, sen salvat sulkeutuivat takanani ainiaaksi. Mutta sinä, Herra, minun Jumalani, nostit minut elävänä ylös haudasta.

⁷When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

⁷(H2:8)Kun voimani jo raukenivat, minä yhä kutsuin Herraa, ja rukoukseni tuli sinun luoksesi pyhään temppeliisi.

⁸They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

⁸(H2:9)Ne, jotka luottavat turhiin jumaliin, hylkäävät ja pettävät sinut.

⁹But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

⁹(H2:10)Mutta minä saan uhrata ja laulaa kiitosta sinulle. Minkä olen luvannut, sen minä täytän. Vain Herra voi pelastaa.

¹⁰And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
