1And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;
1Kuningas Dareioksen neljäntenä hallitusvuotena, yhdeksännen kuukauden eli kislev-kuun neljäntenä päivänä, tuli Herran sana Sakarjalle.
2When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,
2Betelistä oli lähetetty Sar-Eser ja Regem-Melek sekä joitakin muita miehiä uhraamaan Herralle ja rukoilemaan häneltä armoa.
3And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?
3Heidän tuli kysyä papeilta, jotka palvelivat Herran Sebaotin temppelissä, sekä profeetoilta näin: "Pitääkö Betelissä edelleenkin viettää katumus- ja paastopäivää viidennessä kuussa, niin kuin on tehty jo monet vuodet?"
4Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,
4Silloin minulle tuli tämä Herran Sebaotin sana:
5Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?
5"Sano koko kansalle ja papeille näin: -- Te olette kyllä paastonneet ja pitäneet valittajaisia viidennessä ja seitsemännessä kuussa jo seitsemänkymmenen vuoden ajan. Mutta oletteko paastonneet minun kunniakseni?
6And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?
6Ja kun te uhriaterioillanne syötte ja juotte, ettekö te syö ja juo vain omaksi nautinnoksenne?
7Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?
7"Ettekö muista niitä sanoja, joita aikaisemmat profeetat minun käskystäni julistivat silloin, kun Jerusalemissa ja sen ympäristön kaupungeissa vielä asuttiin turvassa ja kun myös Negev ja läntiset kukkulat olivat asuttuja?"
8And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying,
8Sakarjalle tuli tämä Herran sana:
9Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:
9"Näin sanoo Herra Sebaot: -- Tuomitkaa oikein, osoittakaa toinen toisellenne hyvyyttä ja laupeutta.
10And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
10Leskeä ja orpoa, muukalaista ja köyhää älkää sortako, älkää suunnitelko pahaa toinen toisellenne.
11But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.
11"Näin minä sanoin teidän isillenne, mutta he kieltäytyivät kuuntelemasta, käänsivät selkänsä ja olivat kuin kuuroja.
12Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.
12Isänne kovettivat sydämensä timantinkoviksi, ja niin he eivät ottaneet vastaan käskyjäni eivätkä mitään siitä, mitä minä, Herra Sebaot, olin henkeni voimalla puhunut heille aikaisempien profeettojen välityksellä. Sen vuoksi minä, Herra Sebaot, vihastuin heihin.
13Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:
13Niin kuin he eivät kuunnelleet minua, kun minä kutsuin heitä, niin en minäkään kuunnellut, kun he vuorostaan huusivat minua avuksi, sanoo Herra Sebaot.
14But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.
14Myrskytuulena minä puhalsin heidät kansojen sekaan, joita he eivät ennestään tunteneet. Maa jäi autioksi heidän jälkeensä, niin ettei sinne kukaan edes poikennut. Näin he itse muuttivat ihanan maansa autiomaaksi."
