¹Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

¹Jeder, der glaubt, daß Jesus der Christus ist, ist aus Gott geboren; und wer Den liebt, der ihn geboren hat, der liebt auch den, der aus Ihm geboren ist.

²By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

²Daran erkennen wir, daß wir Gottes Kinder lieben, wenn wir Gott lieben und seine Gebote befolgen.

³For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

³Denn das ist die Liebe zu Gott, daß wir seine Gebote halten, und seine Gebote sind nicht schwer.

⁴For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

⁴Denn alles, was aus Gott geboren ist, überwindet die Welt; und unser Glaube ist der Sieg, der die Welt überwunden hat.

⁵Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

⁵Wer ist es, der die Welt überwindet, wenn nicht der, welcher glaubt, daß Jesus der Sohn Gottes ist?

⁶This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

⁶Er ist es, der mit Wasser und Blut gekommen ist, Jesus Christus; nicht mit Wasser allein, sondern mit Wasser und Blut.

⁷For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

⁷Und der Geist ist es, der bezeugt, weil der Geist die Wahrheit ist.

⁸And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

⁸Denn drei sind es, die bezeugen: der Geist und das Wasser und das Blut, und die drei sind einig.

⁹If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

⁹Wenn wir das Zeugnis der Menschen annehmen, so ist das Zeugnis Gottes größer; denn das ist das Zeugnis Gottes, daß er von seinem Sohne Zeugnis abgelegt hat.

¹⁰He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

¹⁰Wer an den Sohn Gottes glaubt, der hat das Zeugnis in sich; wer Gott nicht glaubt, hat ihn zum Lügner gemacht, weil er nicht an das Zeugnis geglaubt hat, welches Gott von seinem Sohne abgelegt hat.

¹¹And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

¹¹Und darin besteht das Zeugnis, daß uns Gott ewiges Leben gegeben hat, und dieses Leben ist in seinem Sohne.

¹²He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

¹²Wer den Sohn hat, der hat das Leben; wer den Sohn Gottes nicht hat, der hat das Leben nicht.

¹³These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

¹³Solches habe ich euch geschrieben, damit ihr wisset, daß ihr ewiges Leben habt, die ihr an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes glaubt.

¹⁴And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

¹⁴Und das ist die Freimütigkeit, die wir ihm gegenüber haben, daß, wenn wir seinem Willen gemäß um etwas bitten, er uns hört.

¹⁵And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

¹⁵Und wenn wir wissen, daß er uns hört, um was wir auch bitten, so wissen wir, daß wir das Erbetene haben, das wir von ihm erbeten haben.

¹⁶If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

¹⁶Wenn jemand seinen Bruder sündigen sieht, eine Sünde nicht zum Tode, so soll er bitten, und Er wird ihm Leben geben, solchen, die nicht zum Tode sündigen. Es gibt eine Sünde zum Tode; daß man für eine solche bitten soll, sage ich nicht!

¹⁷All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

¹⁷Jede Ungerechtigkeit ist Sünde; aber es gibt Sünde; nicht zum Tode.

¹⁸We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

¹⁸Wir wissen, daß jeder, der aus Gott geboren ist, nicht sündigt; sondern wer aus Gott geboren ist, hütet sich, und der Arge tastet ihn nicht an.

¹⁹And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

¹⁹Wir wissen, daß wir aus Gott sind und die ganze Welt im argen liegt;

²⁰And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

²⁰wir wissen aber, daß der Sohn Gottes gekommen ist und uns einen Sinn gegeben hat, daß wir den Wahrhaftigen erkennen. Und wir sind in dem Wahrhaftigen, in seinem Sohne Jesus Christus. Dieser ist der wahrhaftige Gott und das ewige Leben.

²¹Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
