1And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.
1Und nach langer Zeit, im dritten Jahre, erging das Wort des HERRN an Elia also: Gehe hin, zeige dich Ahab, damit ich regen lasse auf den Erdboden.
2And Elijah went to show himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.
2Und Elia ging hin, um sich Ahab zu zeigen. Es war aber eine große Hungersnot zu Samaria.
3And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly:
3Und Ahab rief Obadja, seinen Hofmeister. Obadja aber fürchtete den HERRN sehr.
4For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)
4Denn als Isebel die Propheten des HERRN ausrottete, nahm Obadja hundert Propheten und verbarg sie in den Höhlen, hier fünfzig und dort fünfzig, und versorgte sie mit Brot und Wasser.
5And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.
5So sprach nun Ahab zu Obadja: Ziehe durch das Land, zu allen Wasserbrunnen und zu allen Bächen; vielleicht finden wir Gras, um die Pferde und Maultiere am Leben zu erhalten, daß nicht alles Vieh umkomme!
6So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
6Und sie teilten das Land unter sich, um es zu durchziehen. Ahab zog allein auf einem Wege und Obadja auch allein auf einem andern Weg.
7And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?
7Als nun Obadja auf dem Wege war, siehe, da begegnete ihm Elia. Und als er ihn erkannte, fiel er auf sein Angesicht und sprach: Bist du nicht mein Herr Elia?
8And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
8Er sprach zu ihm: Doch! Gehe hin und sage deinem Herrn: Siehe, Elia ist hier!
9And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?
9Er aber sprach: Was habe ich gesündigt, daß du deinen Knecht in die Hand Ahabs geben willst, daß er mich töte?
10As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.
10So wahr der HERR, dein Gott, lebt, es gibt kein Volk noch Königreich, dahin mein Herr nicht gesandt hätte, dich zu suchen. Und wenn sie sprachen: «Er ist nicht hier», nahm er einen Eid von jenem Königreich und von jenem Volk, daß man dich nicht gefunden habe.
11And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
11Und du sprichst nun: Gehe hin, sage deinem Herrn: Siehe, Elia ist hier!
12And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.
12Wenn ich nun von dir ginge, so würde dich der Geist des HERRN hinwegnehmen, ich weiß nicht wohin; und wenn ich dann käme und es Ahab sagte, und er fände dich nicht, so würde er mich töten; und doch fürchtet dein Knecht den HERRN von Jugend auf!
13Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD's prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?
13Ist meinem HERRN nicht gesagt worden, was ich getan habe, als Isebel die Propheten des HERRN tötete, daß ich von den Propheten des HERRN hundert verbarg, hier fünfzig und dort fünfzig, in Höhlen, und sie mit Brot und Wasser versorgte?
14And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he shall slay me.
14Und du sprichst nun: Gehe hin, sage deinem Herrn: Siehe, Elia ist hier! Er würde mich ja töten!
15And Elijah said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself unto him to day.
15Elia sprach: So wahr der HERR der Heerscharen lebt, vor dem ich stehe, ich will mich ihm heute zeigen!
16So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah.
16Da ging Obadja hin, Ahab entgegen, und sagte es ihm; Ahab aber kam Elia entgegen.
17And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?
17Und als Ahab den Elia sah, sprach Ahab zu ihm: Bist du da, der Israel ins Unglück bringt?
18And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.
18Er aber sprach: Nicht ich bringe Israel ins Unglück, sondern du und deines Vaters Haus, weil ihr die Gebote des HERRN verlassen habt und den Baalen nachwandelt!
19Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.
19Wohlan, so sende nun hin und versammle zu mir ganz Israel auf den Berg Karmel, dazu die 450 Propheten des Baal und die 400 Propheten der Aschera, die am Tische der Isebel essen!
20So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.
20Also sandte Ahab hin unter alle Kinder Israel und versammelte die Propheten auf dem Karmel.
21And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
21Da trat Elia zu allem Volk und sprach: Wie lange hinket ihr nach beiden Seiten? Ist der HERR Gott, so folget ihm nach, ist es aber Baal, so folget ihm! Und das Volk antwortete ihm nichts.
22Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
22Da sprach Elia zum Volk: Ich bin allein übriggeblieben als Prophet des HERRN, der Propheten Baals aber sind 450 Mann.
23Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
23So gebt uns nun zwei Farren und lasset sie den einen Farren erwählen und ihn zerstücken und auf das Holz legen und kein Feuer daran legen; so will ich den andern Farren zurichten und auf das Holz legen und auch kein Feuer daran legen.
24And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
24Dann rufet ihr den Namen eures Gottes an, und ich will den Namen des HERRN anrufen. Welcher Gott mit Feuer antworten wird, der sei Gott! Da antwortete das ganze Volk und sprach: Das Wort ist gut!
25And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.
25Und Elia sprach zu den Propheten Baals: Erwählet euch den einen Farren und bereitet ihn zuerst zu, denn euer sind viele, und rufet den Namen eures Gottes an und leget kein Feuer daran!
26And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
26Und sie nahmen den Farren, den er ihnen gab, und richteten ihn zu und riefen den Namen Baals an vom Morgen bis zum Mittag und sprachen: O Baal, erhöre uns! Aber da war keine Stimme noch Antwort. Und sie hüpften um den Altar, den man gemacht hatte.
27And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
27Als es nun Mittag war, spottete Elia ihrer und sprach: Rufet laut! denn er ist ja ein Gott; vielleicht denkt er nach oder hat zu schaffen oder ist auf Reisen oder schläft vielleicht und wird aufwachen!
28And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.
28Und sie riefen laut und machten Einschnitte nach ihrer Weise mit Schwertern und Spießen, bis das Blut über sie floß.
29And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
29Als aber der Mittag vergangen war, weissagten sie, bis es Zeit war, das Speisopfer darzubringen; aber da war keine Stimme noch Antwort noch Aufmerken.
30And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.
30Da sprach Elia zu allem Volk: Tretet heran zu mir! Als nun alles Volk zu ihm trat, stellte er den Altar des HERRN, der zerbrochen war, wieder her.
31And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
31Und Elia nahm zwölf Steine, nach der Zahl der Stämme der Kinder Jakobs, an welchen das Wort des HERRN also ergangen war: Du sollst Israel heißen!
32And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
32Und er baute von den Steinen einen Altar im Namen des HERRN und machte um den Altar her einen Graben von der Tiefe eines Getreidedoppelmaßes;
33And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.
33und er richtete das Holz zu und zerstückte den Farren und legte ihn auf das Holz und sprach:
34And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
34Füllet vier Krüge mit Wasser und gießet es auf das Brandopfer und auf das Holz! Und er sprach: Tut es noch einmal! Und sie taten es noch einmal. Und er sprach: Tut es zum drittenmal! Und sie taten es zum drittenmal.
35And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
35Und das Wasser lief um den Altar her, und der Graben ward auch voll Wasser.
36And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
36Und um die Zeit, da man das Speisopfer darbringt, trat der Prophet Elia herzu und sprach: O HERR, Gott Abrahams, Isaaks und Israels, laß heute kund werden, daß du Gott in Israel bist und ich dein Knecht und daß ich solches alles nach deinem Wort getan habe!
37Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
37Erhöre mich, o HERR, erhöre mich, daß dieses Volk erkenne, daß du, HERR, Gott bist, und daß du ihr Herz herumgewendet hast!
38Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
38Da fiel das Feuer des HERRN herab und fraß das Brandopfer und das Holz und die Steine und die Erde; und es leckte das Wasser auf in dem Graben.
39And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.
39Als alles Volk solches sah, fielen sie auf ihr Angesicht und sprachen: Der HERR ist Gott! der HERR ist Gott!
40And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
40Elia aber sprach zu ihnen: Fanget die Propheten Baals, daß ihrer keiner entrinne! Und sie fingen sie. Und Elia führte sie hinab an den Bach Kison und schlachtete sie daselbst.
41And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
41Und Elia sprach zu Ahab: Ziehe hinauf, iß und trink, denn es rauscht, als wolle es reichlich regnen!
42So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,
42Und als Ahab hinaufzog, um zu essen und zu trinken, ging Elia auf die Spitze des Karmel und beugte sich zur Erde und tat sein Angesicht zwischen seine Knie
43And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
43und sprach zu seinem Knaben: Gehe doch hinauf und siehe nach dem Meere hin! Da ging er hinauf und schaute hin und sprach: Es ist nichts da! Er sprach: Gehe wieder hin, siebenmal!
44And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.
44Und beim siebenten Mal sprach er: Siehe, es steigt eine kleine Wolke aus dem Meere auf, wie eines Mannes Hand. Er sprach: Gehe hin und sage zu Ahab: Spanne an und fahre hinab, daß dich der Regen nicht zurückhalte!
45And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
45Und ehe man zusah, ward der Himmel schwarz von Wolken und Wind, und es kam ein gewaltiger Regen. Ahab aber stieg auf und fuhr nach Jesreel.
46And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
46Und die Hand des HERRN kam über Elia; und er gürtete seine Lenden und lief vor Ahab her bis gen Jesreel.
