1Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
1Gleicherweise sollen auch die Frauen ihren eigenen Männern untertan sein, damit, wenn auch etliche dem Worte nicht glauben, sie durch der Frauen Wandel ohne Wort gewonnen werden,
2While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
2wenn sie euren in Furcht keuschen Wandel ansehen.
3Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
3Euer Schmuck soll nicht der äußerliche sein, mit Haarflechten und Goldumhängen und Kleideranlegen,
4But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
4sondern der verborgene Mensch des Herzens mit dem unvergänglichen Schmuck des sanften und stillen Geistes, welcher vor Gott wertvoll ist.
5For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
5Denn so haben sich einst auch die heiligen Frauen geschmückt, welche ihre Hoffnung auf Gott setzten und ihren Männern untertan waren,
6Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
6wie Sara dem Abraham gehorchte und ihn «Herr» nannte; deren Töchter ihr geworden seid, wenn ihr Gutes tut und euch durch keine Drohung abschrecken lasset.
7Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
7Und ihr Männer, wohnet mit Vernunft bei dem weiblichen Teil als dem schwächeren und erweiset ihnen Ehre als solchen, die auch Miterben der Gnade des Lebens sind, und damit eure Gebete nicht gehindert werden.
8Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
8Endlich aber seid alle gleichgesinnt, mitleidig, brüderlich, barmherzig, demütig!
9Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
9Vergeltet nicht Böses mit Bösem, oder Scheltwort mit Scheltwort, sondern im Gegenteil segnet, weil ihr dazu berufen seid, daß ihr Segen ererbet.
10For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
10Denn «wem das Leben lieb ist und wer gute Tage sehen will, der bewahre seine Zunge vor Bösem und seine Lippen, daß sie nicht trügen;
11Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
11er wende sich vom Bösen und tue Gutes, er suche den Frieden und jage ihm nach!
12For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
12Denn die Augen des Herrn sehen auf die Gerechten, und seine Ohren merken auf ihr Flehen; das Angesicht des Herrn aber ist gegen die gerichtet, welche Böses tun.»
13And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
13Und wer will euch schaden, wenn ihr euch des Guten befleißiget?
14But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
14Aber wenn ihr auch um Gerechtigkeit willen zu leiden habt, seid ihr selig. Ihr Drohen aber fürchtet nicht und erschrecket nicht; sondern heiliget den Herrn Christus in euren Herzen!
15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
15und seid allezeit bereit zur Verantwortung gegen jedermann, der Rechenschaft fordert über die Hoffnung, die in euch ist,
16Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
16aber mit Sanftmut und Furcht; und habet ein gutes Gewissen, damit die, welche euren guten Wandel in Christus verlästern, zuschanden werden mit ihren Verleumdungen.
17For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
17Denn es ist besser, wenn der Wille Gottes es so haben will, ihr leidet für Gutestun, als für Bösestun.
18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
18Denn auch Christus hat einmal für Sünden gelitten, ein Gerechter für Ungerechte, auf daß er uns zu Gott führte, und er wurde getötet nach dem Fleisch, aber lebendig gemacht nach dem Geist,
19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
19in welchem er auch hinging und den Geistern im Gefängnis predigte,
20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
20die einst nicht gehorchten, als Gottes Langmut zuwartete in den Tagen Noahs, während die Arche zugerichtet wurde, in welcher wenige, nämlich acht Seelen, hindurchgerettet wurden durchs Wasser.
21The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
21Als Abbild davon rettet nun auch uns die Taufe, welche nicht ein Abtun fleischlichen Schmutzes ist, sondern die an Gott gerichtete Bitte um ein gutes Gewissen, durch die Auferstehung Jesu Christi,
22Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
22welcher seit seiner Himmelfahrt zur Rechten Gottes ist, wo ihm Engel und Gewalten und Kräfte untertan sind.
