¹And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.

¹Saul aber redete mit seinem Sohne Jonatan und mit allen seinen Knechten, daß sie David töten sollten. Aber Jonatan, Sauls Sohn, hatte großes Wohlgefallen an David.

²But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:

²Darum verriet Jonatan dieses dem David und sprach: Mein Vater Saul trachtet darnach, dich zu töten. So nimm dich nun morgen in acht und bleibe verborgen und verstecke dich!

³And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.

³Ich aber will hinausgehen und neben meinem Vater auf dem Felde stehen, wo du bist; und ich will mit meinem Vater deinethalben reden, und was ich sehe, das will ich dir kundtun.

⁴And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:

⁴Und Jonatan redete zu Davids Gunsten bei seinem Vater Saul und sprach zu ihm: Der König versündige sich nicht an seinem Knechte David; denn er hat keine Sünde wider dich getan, und sein Tun ist dir sehr nützlich.

⁵For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

⁵Denn er hat sein Leben aufs Spiel gesetzt und den Philister erschlagen, und der HERR hat ganz Israel ein großes Heil bereitet. Das hast du gesehen und dich dessen gefreut. Warum willst du dich denn an unschuldigem Blut versündigen, indem du David ohne Ursache tötest?

⁶And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain.

⁶Da folgte Saul der Stimme Jonatans und schwur: So wahr der HERR lebt, er soll nicht sterben!

⁷And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan showed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.

⁷Da rief Jonatan den David und sagte ihm alle diese Worte. Und Jonatan brachte David zu Saul, und er war wieder vor ihm wie zuvor.

⁸And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.

⁸Es brach aber wieder ein Krieg aus, und David zog aus und stritt wider die Philister und brachte ihnen eine schwere Niederlage bei, so daß sie vor ihm flohen.

⁹And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.

⁹Und der böse Geist vom HERRN kam über Saul; und er saß in seinem Hause und hatte seinen Speer in der Hand; David aber spielte mit der Hand auf den Saiten.

¹⁰And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin: but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

¹⁰Und Saul trachtete, David mit dem Speer an die Wand zu heften, er aber wich Saul aus; der traf mit dem Speer die Wand. Und David floh und entrann in jener Nacht.

¹¹Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.

¹¹Saul aber sandte Boten zum Hause Davids, um ihn zu bewachen und am Morgen zu töten. Das verkündigte dem David sein Weib Michal und sprach: Wirst du diese Nacht nicht deine Seele retten, so mußt du morgen sterben!

¹²So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.

¹²Und Michal ließ David durchs Fenster hinunter, und er ging hin, floh und entrann.

¹³And Michal took an image, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster, and covered it with a cloth.

¹³Und Michal nahm einen Teraphim und legte ihn auf das Bett und tat ein Geflecht von Ziegenhaaren zu seinen Häupten und deckte ihn mit Kleidern zu.

¹⁴And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.

¹⁴Da sandte Saul Boten, um David zu holen. Sie aber sprach: Er ist krank!

¹⁵And Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

¹⁵Saul aber sandte die Boten, nach David zu sehen, und sprach: Bringet ihn samt dem Bette zu mir herauf, daß er getötet werde!

¹⁶And when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster.

¹⁶Als nun die Boten kamen, siehe, da lag der Teraphim im Bett und ein Geflecht von Ziegenhaaren zu seinen Häupten!

¹⁷And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

¹⁷Da sprach Saul zu Michal: Warum hast du mich also betrogen und meinen Feind laufen lassen, daß er entrann? Michal sagte zu Saul: Er sprach zu mir: Laß mich gehen oder ich töte dich!

¹⁸So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

¹⁸David aber floh und entrann und kam zu Samuel gen Rama und teilte ihm alles mit, was Saul ihm angetan hatte. Und er ging hin mit Samuel, und sie blieben zu Najot.

¹⁹And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.

¹⁹Es ward aber dem Saul angezeigt: Siehe, David ist zu Najot in Rama!

²⁰And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

²⁰Da sandte Saul Boten, David zu holen. Als sie nun die Versammlung der Propheten weissagen sahen und Samuel an ihrer Spitze, da kam der Geist Gottes auf die Boten Sauls, daß auch sie weissagten.

²¹And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.

²¹Als solches Saul angezeigt ward, sandte er andere Boten: die weissagten auch. Da sandte er noch zum dritten Male Boten, und auch sie weissagten.

²²Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah.

²²Nun ging er selbst nach Rama; und als er zum großen Brunnen kam, der zu Sechu ist, fragte er und sprach: Wo sind Samuel und David? Da ward ihm gesagt: Siehe, zu Najot in Rama!

²³And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

²³Und er ging von dort nach Najot in Rama. Und der Geist Gottes kam auf ihn; und er ging einher und weissagte, bis er nach Najot in Rama kam.

²⁴And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

²⁴Und auch er zog seine Oberkleider aus und weissagte vor Samuel und lag unbekleidet da jenen ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht. Daher spricht man: Ist Saul auch unter den Propheten?
