¹And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.

¹Die Philister aber hatten die Lade Gottes genommen und sie von Eben-Eser nach Asdod verbracht.

²When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

²Und zwar nahmen die Philister die Lade Gottes und brachten sie in das Haus Dagons und stellten sie neben Dagon.

³And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

³Als aber die Asdoditer am folgenden Morgen früh aufstanden, siehe, da fanden sie den Dagon auf seinem Angesicht auf der Erde liegen vor der Lade des HERRN. Da nahmen sie den Dagon und setzten ihn wieder an seinen Ort.

⁴And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

⁴Als sie aber am folgenden Morgen frühe aufstanden, siehe, da fanden sie den Dagon abermals auf seinem Angesicht auf der Erde liegen vor der Lade des HERRN; aber sein Haupt und seine beiden Hände lagen abgehauen auf der Schwelle, nur der Fischleib war von ihm übriggeblieben.

⁵Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

⁵Darum treten die Priester Dagons und alle, die in das Haus Dagons gehen, nicht auf die Schwelle Dagons in Asdod, bis auf diesen Tag.

⁶But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

⁶Aber die Hand des HERRN legte sich schwer über die Einwohner von Asdod und verderbte sie und schlug Asdod und ihr ganzes Gebiet mit Beulen.

⁷And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

⁷Als aber die Leute von Asdod sahen, daß es also zuging, sprachen sie: Laßt die Lade des Gottes Israels nicht bei uns verbleiben; denn seine Hand ist zu hart über uns und unserm Gott Dagon!

⁸They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.

⁸Und sie sandten hin und versammelten alle Fürsten der Philister zu sich und sprachen: Was sollen wir mit der Lade des Gottes Israels machen? Da antworteten sie: Man lasse die Lade des Gottes Israels hintragen nach Gat! Und sie trugen die Lade des Gottes Israels hin.

⁹And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

⁹Und es begab sich, als sie die Lade hingetragen hatten, ward durch die Hand des HERRN in der Stadt eine sehr große Bestürzung; und er schlug die Leute in der Stadt, vom Kleinsten bis zum Größten, so daß an ihnen Beulen ausbrachen.

¹⁰Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

¹⁰Da sandten sie die Lade Gottes nach Ekron. Als aber die Lade Gottes gen Ekron kam, schrieen die von Ekron und sprachen: Sie haben die Lade des Gottes Israels zu mir gebracht, daß sie mich und mein Volk töte!

¹¹So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

¹¹Da sandten sie hin und versammelten alle Fürsten der Philister und sprachen: Sendet die Lade des Gottes Israels wieder zurück an ihren Ort, daß sie mich und mein Volk nicht töte! Denn es war eine tödliche Bestürzung in der ganzen Stadt, und die Hand Gottes lag sehr schwer auf ihr.

¹²And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

¹²Und die Leute, welche nicht starben, wurden mit Beulen geschlagen, und das Geschrei der Stadt stieg zum Himmel empor.
