1This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.
1Dies ist das drittemal, daß ich zu euch komme. Durch zweier und dreier Zeugen Mund soll jede Aussage festgestellt werden!
2I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:
2Ich habe es zum voraus gesagt und sage es zum voraus, wie bei meiner zweiten Anwesenheit, so auch jetzt in meiner Abwesenheit, denen, die zuvor gesündigt haben und den übrigen allen, daß, wenn ich abermals komme, ich nicht schonen werde;
3Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.
3weil ihr ja eine Probe verlangt, daß Christus durch mich redet, welcher nicht schwach ist gegen euch, sondern mächtig unter euch.
4For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.
4Denn ob er auch aus Schwachheit gekreuzigt wurde, so lebt er doch aus der Kraft Gottes; so sind auch wir zwar schwach in ihm, doch werden wir mit ihm leben aus der Kraft Gottes für euch.
5Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
5Prüfet euch selbst, ob ihr im Glauben seid; stellet euch selbst auf die Probe! Oder erkennet ihr euch selbst nicht, daß Jesus Christus in euch ist? Es müßte denn sein, daß ihr nicht echt wäret!
6But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.
6Ich hoffe aber, ihr werdet erkennen, daß wir nicht unecht sind.
7Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.
7Ich bete aber zu Gott, daß ihr nichts Böses tut; nicht damit wir bewährt erscheinen, sondern damit ihr das Gute tut, wir aber wie Unechte seien.
8For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.
8Denn wir vermögen nichts wider die Wahrheit, sondern nur für die Wahrheit.
9For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection.
9Denn wir freuen uns, wenn wir schwach sind, ihr aber stark seid; das aber wünschen wir auch, euer Zurechtkommen.
10Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.
10Darum schreibe ich dieses abwesend, damit ich anwesend nicht Strenge gebrauchen müsse nach der Vollmacht, die mir der Herr gegeben hat zum Erbauen und nicht zum Zerstören.
11Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
11brigens, ihr Brüder, freuet euch, lasset euch zurechtbringen, lasset euch ermahnen, sinnet auf dasselbe, haltet Frieden, so wird der Gott der Liebe und des Friedens mit euch sein!
