¹Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

¹Und eine Frau unter den Frauen der Prophetensöhne schrie zu Elisa und sprach: Dein Knecht, mein Mann, ist gestorben; aber du weißt, daß er, dein Knecht, den HERRN fürchtete. Nun kommt der Gläubiger und will sich meine beiden Söhne zu Knechten nehmen!

²And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

²Elisa sprach zu ihr: Was soll ich für dich tun? Sage mir, was hast du im Hause? Sie sprach: Deine Magd hat nichts im Hause als einen Krug mit Öl!

³Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbors, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

³Er sprach: Gehe hin und erbitte dir draußen Gefäße von allen deinen Nachbarinnen, leere Gefäße, und derselben nicht wenige;

⁴And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

⁴und gehe hinein und schließe die Tür hinter dir und deinen Söhnen zu und gieße in alle diese Gefäße; und was voll ist, trage weg!

⁵So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

⁵Sie ging von ihm und schloß die Tür hinter sich und ihren Söhnen zu; die brachten ihr die Gefäße, und sie goß ein.

⁶And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

⁶Und als die Gefäße voll waren, sprach sie zu ihrem Sohn: Reiche mir noch ein Gefäß her! Er sprach zu ihr: Es ist kein Gefäß mehr hier! Da stockte das Öl.

⁷Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

⁷Und sie ging hin und sagte es dem Manne Gottes. Er sprach: Gehe hin, verkaufe das Öl und bezahle deine Schuld; du aber und deine Söhne möget von dem Übrigen leben!

⁸And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.

⁸Und es begab sich eines Tages, daß Elisa nach Sunem ging. Dort wohnte eine vornehme Frau, die nötigte ihn, bei ihr zu essen. Sooft er nun daselbst durchzog, kehrte er dort ein, um zu essen.

⁹And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.

⁹Und sie sprach zu ihrem Mann: Siehe doch, ich merke, daß dies ein heiliger Mann Gottes ist, der stets bei uns vorbeikommt.

¹⁰Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.

¹⁰Laß uns doch eine kleine Dachstube herrichten und Bett, Tisch, Stuhl und Leuchter hineinstellen, damit, wenn er zu uns kommt, er sich dahin verfüge!

¹¹And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.

¹¹Es begab sich nun eines Tages, daß er hineinkam und sich in die Dachstube verfügte und darin schlief.

¹²And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.

¹²Dann sprach er zu seinem Burschen Gehasi: Rufe diese Sunamitin! Da rief er sie, und sie trat vor ihn hin.

¹³And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.

¹³Und er sprach zu ihm: Sage ihr doch: Siehe, du hast unsertwegen so viel Sorge gehabt; was kann ich für dich tun? Hast du etwas, weswegen ich mit dem König oder mit dem Feldhauptmann für dich reden sollte? Sie sprach: Ich wohne ja mitten unter meinem Volk!

¹⁴And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.

¹⁴Er sprach: Was könnte man für sie tun? Gehasi sprach: Ach, sie hat keinen Sohn, und ihr Mann ist alt!

¹⁵And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.

¹⁵Da sagte er: Rufe sie! Und als er sie rief, trat sie unter die Tür.

¹⁶And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.

¹⁶Und er sprach: Um diese bestimmte Zeit übers Jahr wirst du einen Sohn herzen! Sie sprach: Ach nein, mein Herr, du Mann Gottes, spotte deiner Magd nicht!

¹⁷And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.

¹⁷Aber das Weib empfing und gebar einen Sohn um dieselbe Zeit, im nächsten Jahre, wie Elisa ihr verheißen hatte.

¹⁸And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.

¹⁸Als aber der Knabe heranwuchs, begab es sich eines Tages, daß er zu seinem Vater, zu den Schnittern hinausging.

¹⁹And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.

¹⁹Da sprach er zu seinem Vater: O mein Kopf, mein Kopf! Jener befahl einem Knecht: Führe ihn zu seiner Mutter!

²⁰And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.

²⁰Der nahm ihn und brachte ihn zu seiner Mutter. Und er saß auf ihrem Schoße bis zum Mittag, dann starb er.

²¹And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.

²¹Da ging sie hinauf und legte ihn auf das Bett des Mannes Gottes, schloß hinter ihm zu und ging hinaus,

²²And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.

²²rief ihren Mann und sprach: Sende mir doch einen von den Knechten und eine Eselin, ich will eilends zu dem Manne Gottes gehen, aber bald wiederkommen!

²³And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.

²³Er sprach: Warum gehst du heute zu ihm? Es ist doch weder Neumond noch Sabbat! Sie sprach: Lebe wohl!

²⁴Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.

²⁴Und sie sattelte die Eselin und sprach zu ihrem Knechte: Treibe das Tier beständig an und mache keinen Aufenthalt, es sei denn, daß ich es sage!

²⁵So she went and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:

²⁵So ging sie denn und kam zu dem Manne Gottes auf den Berg Karmel. Als aber der Mann Gottes sie aus einiger Entfernung sah, sprach er zu seinem Diener Gehasi: Sieh dort die Sunamitin!

²⁶Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well:

²⁶Nun laufe ihr doch entgegen und sprich zu ihr: Geht es dir wohl? Geht es deinem Manne wohl? Sie sprach: Jawohl!

²⁷And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.

²⁷Als sie aber zu dem Manne Gottes kam, umfaßte sie seine Füße; da machte sich Gehasi herzu, um sie wegzustoßen. Aber der Mann Gottes sprach: Laß sie, denn ihre Seele ist betrübt, und der HERR hat es mir verborgen und nicht kundgetan!

²⁸Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?

²⁸Sie sprach: Habe ich denn von meinem Herrn einen Sohn erbeten? Sagte ich nicht, du solltest meiner nicht spotten?

²⁹Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.

²⁹Er sprach zu Gehasi: Gürte deine Lenden und nimm einen Stab in deine Hand und gehe hin! Wenn dir jemand begegnet, so grüße ihn nicht, und grüßt dich jemand, so antworte ihm nicht, und lege meinen Stab auf des Knaben Angesicht!

³⁰And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.

³⁰Aber die Mutter des Knaben sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, und so wahr deine Seele lebt, ich lasse nicht von dir! Da machte er sich auf und folgte ihr.

³¹And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.

³¹Gehasi aber ging vor ihnen hin und legte dem Knaben den Stab auf das Angesicht; aber da war keine Stimme noch Aufmerken. Und er kehrte um, ihm entgegen, und zeigte es ihm an und sprach: Der Knabe ist nicht aufgewacht!

³²And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.

³²Als nun Elisa in das Haus kam, siehe, da lag der Knabe tot auf seinem Bett.

³³He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the LORD.

³³Und er ging hinein und schloß die Tür hinter ihnen beiden zu und betete zu dem HERRN.

³⁴And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.

³⁴Dann stieg er hinauf und legte sich auf das Kind und legte seinen Mund auf des Kindes Mund und seine Augen auf desselben Augen und seine Hände auf desselben Hände und breitete sich also über dasselbe, daß des Kindes Leib warm wurde.

³⁵Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

³⁵Darnach stand er auf und ging im Hause einmal hierhin, einmal dorthin, stieg dann wieder hinauf und breitete sich über ihn. Da nieste der Knabe siebenmal; darnach tat der Knabe die Augen auf.

³⁶And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.

³⁶Und er rief Gehasi und sprach: Rufe die Sunamitin! Da rief er sie, und als sie zu ihm hereinkam, sprach er: Da nimm deinen Sohn!

³⁷Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.

³⁷Da kam sie und fiel zu seinen Füßen und bückte sich zur Erde und nahm ihren Sohn und ging hinaus.

³⁸And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.

³⁸Elisa aber kam wieder nach Gilgal. Und es war eine Hungersnot im Lande. Und die Prophetensöhne saßen vor ihm, und er sprach zu seinem Burschen: Setze den großen Topf auf und koche ein Gemüse für die Prophetensöhne!

³⁹And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.

³⁹Da ging einer aufs Feld hinaus, um Kräuter zu suchen, und er fand wilde Gurken und las davon sein Kleid voll wilde Gurken; und als er heimkam, zerschnitt er sie in den Gemüsetopf; denn sie kannten sie nicht.

⁴⁰So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.

⁴⁰Als man es aber zum Essen vor die Männer ausschüttete und sie von dem Gemüse aßen, schrieen sie und sprachen: Der Tod ist im Topf, Mann Gottes! Und sie konnten es nicht essen.

⁴¹But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.

⁴¹Er aber sprach: Gebt Mehl! Und er warf es in den Topf und sprach: Schütte es aus für die Leute, daß sie essen! Da war nichts Böses mehr im Topf.

⁴²And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.

⁴²Aber ein Mann von Baal-Schalischa kam und brachte dem Manne Gottes Erstlingsbrote, zwanzig Gerstenbrote und zerriebene Körner in seinem Sack. Er aber sprach: Gib es dem Volk, daß sie essen!

⁴³And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.

⁴³Sein Diener sprach: Wie kann ich das hundert Männern vorsetzen? Er aber sprach: Gib es dem Volk, daß sie essen! Denn also spricht der HERR: Man wird essen, und es wird übrigbleiben!

⁴⁴So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the LORD.

⁴⁴Und er legte es ihnen vor, und sie aßen; und es blieb noch übrig, nach dem Worte des HERRN.
