¹And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

¹Absalom aber, der Sohn Davids, hatte eine schöne Schwester, die hieß Tamar; und es begab sich, dass Amnon, Davids Sohn, sie liebgewann.

²And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her.

²Und Amnon grämte sich also, daß er krank ward um seiner Schwester willen; denn sie war eine Jungfrau, und es schien Amnon unmöglich, ihr etwas anzutun.

³But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

³Amnon aber hatte einen Freund, der hieß Jonadab, ein Sohn Simeas, des Bruders Davids; und Jonadab war ein sehr listiger Mann.

⁴And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king's son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.

⁴Der sprach zu ihm: Warum bist du jeden Morgen so niedergeschlagen, du Königssohn, willst du es mir nicht sagen? Da sprach Amnon zu ihm: Ich habe Tamar lieb, die Schwester meines Bruders Absalom!

⁵And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

⁵Da sprach Jonadab zu ihm: Lege dich auf dein Bett und stelle dich krank. Wenn dann dein Vater kommt, dich zu besuchen, so sprich zu ihm: Laß doch meine Schwester Tamar kommen, daß sie mich speise und ein Essen vor mir mache, so daß ich zusehen könne, so würde ich von ihrer Hand essen!

⁶So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.

⁶Also legte sich Amnon nieder und stellte sich krank. Als nun der König kam, ihn zu besuchen, sprach Amnon zum König: Laß doch meine Schwester Tamar kommen, daß sie zwei Kuchen vor mir mache und ich von ihrer Hand esse!

⁷Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon's house, and dress him meat.

⁷Da sandte David zu Tamar ins Haus und ließ ihr sagen: Geh doch hin in das Haus deines Bruders Amnon und bereite ihm eine Speise!

⁸So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes.

⁸Tamar ging hin in das Haus ihres Bruders Amnon. Er aber lag zu Bette. Und sie nahm einen Teig und knetete und bereitete ihn vor seinen Augen und buk die Kuchen.

⁹And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.

⁹Und sie nahm die Pfanne und schüttete sie vor ihm aus; aber er weigerte sich zu essen. Und Amnon sprach: Lasset jedermann von mir hinausgehen. Da ging jedermann hinaus.

¹⁰And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.

¹⁰Da sprach Amnon zu Tamar: Bring mir das Essen in die Kammer, daß ich von deiner Hand esse! Da nahm Tamar das Gebackene, das sie gemacht hatte, und brachte es ihrem Bruder Amnon in die Kammer.

¹¹And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.

¹¹Und als sie es zu ihm brachte, daß er äße, ergriff er sie und sprach zu ihr: Komm her, meine Schwester, schlafe bei mir!

¹²And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.

¹²Sie aber sprach zu ihm: Nicht doch, mein Bruder! Entehre mich nicht; denn also tut man nicht in Israel! Begehe nicht eine solche Schandtat!

¹³And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.

¹³Wo wollte ich mit meiner Schande hin? Und du würdest sein wie einer der Schändlichen in Israel. Nun aber, rede doch mit dem König; denn er wird mich dir nicht versagen!

¹⁴Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.

¹⁴Aber er wollte ihrer Stimme nicht gehorchen, sondern überwältigte und vergewaltigte sie und schlief bei ihr.

¹⁵Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.

¹⁵Darnach ward Amnon ihr überaus gram, so daß der Haß größer ward, als zuvor die Liebe; und Amnon sprach zu ihr: Mache dich auf und davon!

¹⁶And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.

¹⁶Sie aber sprach zu ihm: Dieses Unrecht, daß du mich ausstoßest, ist gewiß noch größer, als das andere, welches du mir angetan hast! Aber er wollte nicht auf sie hören,

¹⁷Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.

¹⁷sondern rief seinen Knappen, der sein Diener war, und sprach: Treibe doch diese von mir hinaus und schließ die Tür hinter ihr zu!

¹⁸And she had a garment of divers colors upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.

¹⁸Sie trug aber einen langen bunten Rock; denn also waren die ledigen Königstöchter gekleidet mit Oberkleidern.

¹⁹And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colors that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.

¹⁹Als nun sein Diener sie hinausgetrieben und die Türe hinter ihr zugeschlossen hatte, warf Tamar Asche auf ihr Haupt und zerriß den langen bunten Rock, welchen sie trug, und legte die Hand auf ihr Haupt und lief schreiend davon.

²⁰And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house.

²⁰Und ihr Bruder Absalom sprach zu ihr: Ist dein Bruder Amnon bei dir gewesen? Nun dann, meine Schwester, schweig still! Er ist dein Bruder; nimm diese Sache nicht zu Herzen! Tamar aber blieb verstört im Hause ihres Bruders Absalom.

²¹But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.

²¹Und als der König das alles hörte, ward er sehr zornig.

²²And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

²²Aber Absalom redete nicht mit Amnon, weder Böses noch Gutes; denn Absalom war dem Amnon gram, weil er seine Schwester Tamar vergewaltigt hatte.

²³And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

²³Und nach zwei Jahren, als Absalom Schafschur hielt zu Baal-Hazor, das in Ephraim liegt, lud Absalom alle Söhne des Königs ein.

²⁴And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.

²⁴Und Absalom kam zum König und sprach: Siehe doch! Dein Knecht hält Schafschur; der König wolle samt seinen Knechten mit deinem Knechte hingehen!

²⁵And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.

²⁵Der König aber sprach zu Absalom: Nicht doch, mein Sohn! Laß uns jetzt nicht alle gehen, daß wir dir nicht beschwerlich seien. Und als er in ihn drang, wollte er doch nicht gehen, sondern segnete ihn.

²⁶Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?

²⁶Absalom sprach: Darf mein Bruder Amnon nicht mit uns gehen? Da fragte der König: Warum soll er mit dir gehen?

²⁷But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

²⁷Absalom aber drang in ihn; da ließ er Amnon und alle Söhne des Königs mit ihm gehen.

²⁸Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

²⁸Und Absalom gebot seinen Knappen und sprach: Gebt acht, wenn Amnon von dem Wein guter Dinge sein wird und ich zu euch sage: Schlaget Amnon und tötet ihn! so fürchtet euch nicht, denn ich habe es euch befohlen; ermannt euch und seid tapfer!

²⁹And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule, and fled.

²⁹Also taten die Knappen Absaloms dem Amnon, wie Absalom ihnen geboten hatte. Da standen alle Söhne des Königs auf und bestiegen ein jeder sein Maultier und flohen.

³⁰And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.

³⁰Und als sie noch auf dem Wege waren, kam das Gerücht vor David: Absalom hat alle Söhne des Königs erschlagen, so daß nicht einer von ihnen übriggeblieben ist!

³¹Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent.

³¹Da stand der König auf und zerriß seine Kleider und legte sich auf die Erde, und alle seine Knechte standen um ihn her mit zerrissenen Kleidern.

³²And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

³²Da hob Jonadab, der Sohn Simeas, des Bruders Davids, an und sprach: Mein Herr denke nicht, daß alle Jünglinge, die Söhne des Königs, tot seien; sondern Amnon allein ist tot; denn auf Absaloms Lippen lag ein Vorsatz seit dem Tage, da jener seine Schwester vergewaltigt hatte.

³³Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.

³³So möge nun mein Herr, der König, nicht glauben, daß alle Söhne des Königs tot seien, sondern Amnon allein ist tot!

³⁴But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.

³⁴Absalom aber floh. Und der Knappe auf der Warte erhob seine Augen, sah sich um und siehe, da kam viel Volk auf dem Wege hinter ihm, an der Seite des Berges.

³⁵And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king's sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.

³⁵Da sprach Jonadab zum König: Siehe, die Söhne des Königs kommen! Wie dein Knecht gesagt hat, also ist es ergangen.

³⁶And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.

³⁶Und als er ausgeredet hatte, siehe, da kamen die Söhne des Königs und erhoben ihre Stimme und weinten; auch der König und alle seine Knechte weinten sehr.

³⁷But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

³⁷Absalom aber war entflohen und ging zu Talmai, dem Sohn Ammischurs, dem König zu Geschur; David aber trug die ganze Zeit hindurch Leid um seinen Sohn.

³⁸So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

³⁸Nachdem aber Absalom geflohen und gen Geschur gezogen war, blieb er daselbst drei Jahre.

³⁹And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

³⁹Und der König David unterließ es, Absalom zu verfolgen; denn er hatte sich über den Tod Amnons getröstet.
