3For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
3Denn ich freute mich sehr, als Brüder kamen und von deiner Wahrhaftigkeit Zeugnis ablegten, wie du in der Wahrheit wandelst.
4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
4Ich habe keine größere Freude als die, zu hören, daß meine Kinder in der Wahrheit wandeln.
5Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
5Mein Lieber, du handelst getreulich in dem, was du an den Brüdern tust, und noch dazu an fremden.
6Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
6Sie haben von deiner Liebe Zeugnis abgelegt vor der Gemeinde. Du wirst wohltun, wenn du ihnen ein Geleite gibst, wie es Gottes würdig ist;
7Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
7denn um seines Namens willen sind sie ausgezogen, ohne von den Heidnischen etwas anzunehmen.
8We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
8So sind wir nun verpflichtet, solche aufzunehmen, damit wir Mitarbeiter der Wahrheit werden.
9I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
9Ich habe der Gemeinde etwas geschrieben; aber Diotrephes, der bei ihnen der erste sein möchte, nimmt uns nicht an.
10Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
10Darum will ich, wenn ich komme, ihm seine Werke vorhalten, die er tut, indem er uns mit bösen Worten verleumdet; und daran nicht genug, nimmt er selbst die Brüder nicht auf und wehrt es noch denen, die es tun wollen, und stößt sie aus der Gemeinde.
11Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
11Mein Lieber, ahme nicht das Böse nach, sondern das Gute! Wer Gutes tut, der ist von Gott; wer Böses tut, hat Gott nicht gesehen.
12Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
12Dem Demetrius wird von allen und von der Wahrheit selbst ein gutes Zeugnis ausgestellt; auch wir geben Zeugnis dafür, und du weißt, daß unser Zeugnis wahr ist.
13I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
13Ich hätte dir vieles zu schreiben; aber ich will dir nicht mit Tinte und Feder schreiben.
14But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
14Ich hoffe aber, dich bald zu sehen, und dann wollen wir mündlich miteinander reden. (G1-15) Friede sei mit dir! Es grüßen dich die Freunde. Grüße die Freunde mit Namen!
