¹Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.

¹Hört dieses Wort, dieses Klagelied, das ich über euch anstimme, ihr vom Hause Israel!

²The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

²Sie ist gefallen und kann nicht wieder aufstehen, die Jungfrau Israel; sie ist zu Boden gestürzt, und niemand richtet sie auf.

³For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.

³Denn also spricht Gott, der HERR: Die Stadt, welche tausend Mann stellt, wird nur hundert übrig behalten, und die, welche hundert stellt, wird nur zehn übrig behalten vom Hause Israel.

⁴For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:

⁴Denn also spricht der HERR zum Hause Israel: Suchet mich, so werdet ihr leben!

⁵But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.

⁵Und suchet nicht Bethel auf und gehet nicht nach Gilgal und ziehet nicht hinüber nach Beerseba; denn Gilgal wird in die Gefangenschaft wandern und Bethel zum Unheilshaus werden!

⁶Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.

⁶Suchet den HERRN, so werdet ihr leben! Sonst wird er das Haus Joseph wie ein Feuer überfallen und es also verzehren, daß niemand Bethel löschen kann.

⁷Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

⁷Ihr verwandelt das Recht in Wermut und stoßet die Gerechtigkeit zu Boden.

⁸Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

⁸Er aber macht das Siebengestirn und den Orion und verwandelt den Todesschatten in den Morgen, den Tag aber in finstere Nacht; er ruft den Meereswassern und gießt sie auf den Erdboden: HERR ist sein Name.

⁹That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.

⁹Er läßt blitzschnell Zerstörung über den Starken kommen, und es bricht Zerstörung über die Festung herein.

¹⁰They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

¹⁰Sie hassen den, der im Tore Recht spricht, und verabscheuen den, der aufrichtig redet.

¹¹Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.

¹¹Darum, weil ihr den Geringen niedertretet und Getreideabgaben von ihm erhebet, sollt ihr die Häuser, die ihr aus Quadersteinen gebaut habt, nicht bewohnen und den Wein der Weinberge, die ihr gepflanzt habt, nicht trinken.

¹²For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

¹²Denn ich weiß, daß eurer Übertretungen viele und daß eure Sünden zahlreich sind, daß ihr den Gerechten dränget, Bestechung annehmet und die Armen im Tor unterdrücket!

¹³Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.

¹³Darum muß der Kluge zu dieser Zeit schweigen; denn es ist böse Zeit.

¹⁴Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

¹⁴Suchet das Gute und nicht das Böse, auf daß ihr lebet; dann wird der HERR mit euch sein, wie ihr sagt!

¹⁵Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

¹⁵Hasset das Böse und liebet das Gute und gebet dem Recht seinen Platz im Tor; vielleicht wird der HERR, der Gott der Heerscharen, dem Überrest Josephs gnädig sein.

¹⁶Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.

¹⁶Darum spricht der HERR, der Gott der Heerscharen, der Herr, also: Auf allen Plätzen wird man klagen und auf allen Straßen «wehe, wehe!» rufen. Man wird den Bauer zur Trauer rufen und denen Klagelieder vorsagen, die sie singen können.

¹⁷And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD.

¹⁷Und in allen Weinbergen wird Wehklage erschallen; denn ich will mitten durch euch dahinschreiten, spricht der HERR.

¹⁸Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

¹⁸Wehe denen, die den Tag des HERRN herbeiwünschen! Was soll euch der Tag des HERRN? Er wird finster sein und nicht Licht,

¹⁹As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

¹⁹gleich als wenn jemand vor dem Löwen flöhe und ihm ein Bär begegnete, und wenn er heimkäme und sich mit der Hand an die Wand lehnte, ihn eine Schlange bisse!

²⁰Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

²⁰Wird nicht der Tag des HERRN finster sein, und nicht Licht, dunkel und ohne Glanz?

²¹I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

²¹Ich hasse, ich verachte eure Feste und mag eure Festversammlungen nicht riechen!

²²Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

²²Wenn ihr mir gleich euer Brandopfer und Speisopfer darbringt, so habe ich kein Wohlgefallen daran, und eure Dankopfer von Mastkälbern schaue ich gar nicht an.

²³Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

²³Tue nur weg von mir das Geplärr deiner Lieder, und dein Harfenspiel mag ich gar nicht hören!

²⁴But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

²⁴Es soll aber das Recht daherfluten wie Wasser und die Gerechtigkeit wie ein unversiegbarer Strom!

²⁵Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

²⁵Hast du, Haus Israel, mir während der vierzig Jahre in der Wüste Schlachtopfer und Speisopfer dargebracht?

²⁶But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

²⁶Habt ihr nicht die Hütte eures Moloch, das Standbild eurer Götzen getragen, den Stern, den ihr euch zum Gott gemacht habt?

²⁷Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

²⁷Ich aber will euch bis über Damaskus hinaus verbannen, spricht der HERR, Gott der Heerscharen ist sein Name.
