¹I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

¹Auf meine Warte will ich treten und mich stellen auf den Turm, damit ich erspähe und sehe, was er mir sagen wird und was für eine Antwort ich auf meine Klage bekommen werde.

²And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

²Da antwortete mir der HERR und sprach: Schreibe das Gesicht nieder und grabe es auf Tafeln, damit man es geläufig lesen kann!

³For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

³Denn das Gesicht gilt noch für die bestimmte Zeit und eilt dem Ende zu und wird nicht trügen; wenn es verzieht, so harre seiner, denn es wird gewiß kommen und sich nicht verspäten.

⁴Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

⁴Siehe, der Aufgeblasene, unaufrichtig ist seine Seele in ihm; aber der Gerechte wird durch seinen Glauben leben.

⁵Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

⁵Und dazu kommt noch der tückische Wein. Der Mann wird übermütig und bleibt nicht ruhig; er wird so begehrlich wie der Scheol und unersättlich wie der Tod, daß er alle Völker zu sich sammeln und alle Nationen an sich ziehen will.

⁶Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!

⁶Werden nicht diese alle einen Spruch über ihn machen und ein Spottlied in Rätseln auf ihn dichten? Man wird sagen: Wehe dem, der sich bereichert mit fremdem Gut (wie lange noch?), der sich mit Pfandgut beschwert!

⁷Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?

⁷Werden nicht plötzlich aufstehen, die dich betreiben werden, und aufwachen, die dich peinigen werden, so daß du ihnen zur Beute wirst?

⁸Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

⁸Denn wie du viele Völker geplündert hast, so sollen alle übriggebliebenen Völker dich plündern wegen des vergossenen Menschenblutes und der Vergewaltigung des Landes, der Stadt und aller ihrer Bewohner!

⁹Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

⁹Wehe dem, der nach bösem Gewinn trachtet für sein Haus, um dann sein Nest in der Höhe anzulegen und sicher zu sein vor der Hand des Bösewichts!

¹⁰Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.

¹⁰Du hast beschlossen, was deinem Haus zur Schande gereicht, die Vertilgung vieler Völker, und durch deine Sünden hast du deine Seele verwirkt.

¹¹For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

¹¹Ja, der Stein wird aus der Mauer heraus schreien und die Sparre im Holzwerk ihm antworten.

¹²Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!

¹²Wehe dem, der die Stadt mit Blut baut und die Burg mit Ungerechtigkeit befestigt!

¹³Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

¹³Siehe, kommt es nicht vom HERRN der Heerscharen, daß Völker fürs Feuer arbeiten und Nationen für nichts sich abmühen?

¹⁴For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

¹⁴Denn die Erde wird voll werden der Erkenntnis der Herrlichkeit des HERRN, gleichwie die Wasser den Meeresgrund bedecken.

¹⁵Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

¹⁵Wehe dem, der seinem Nächsten zu trinken gibt aus dem Becher seines Grimms und ihn sogar trunken macht, damit er seine Blöße sehe!

¹⁶Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.

¹⁶Du hast dich von Schande gesättigt, statt von Ehre; so trinke auch du und entblöße dich. Die Reihe wird auch an dich kommen, den Becher zu nehmen aus der rechten Hand des HERRN, und Schande wird fallen auf deine Herrlichkeit.

¹⁷For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

¹⁷Denn der Frevel am Libanon wird auf dir lasten, und die Verheerung der wilden Tiere wird dich schrecken, um des vergossenen Menschenblutes willen und wegen der Vergewaltigung des Landes, der Stadt und aller ihrer Bewohner.

¹⁸What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

¹⁸Was nützt ein gemeißeltes Bild, daß der Bildhauer es geschaffen hat, ein gegossenes Bild und ein Lügenlehrer dazu? Denn der es gemacht hat, vertraut auf sein eigenes Machwerk, so daß er stumme Götzen verfertigt.

¹⁹Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

¹⁹Wehe dem, der zum Holz spricht: «Wache auf!» und zum stummen Stein: «Stehe auf!» Kann er lehren? Siehe, er ist in Gold und Silber gefaßt, und es ist gar kein Geist in ihm!

²⁰But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

²⁰Aber der HERR ist in seinem heiligen Tempel, stille sei vor ihm alle Welt!
