¹The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

¹Das Wort des HERRN, welches an Joel, den Sohn Petuels erging:

²Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

²Höret das, ihr Ältesten, und merket auf, alle Bewohner des Landes: Ist je dergleichen zu euren Zeiten oder zu den Zeiten eurer Väter geschehen?

³Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

³Erzählet davon euren Kindern und eure Kinder ihren Kindern und deren Kinder dem künftigen Geschlecht!

⁴That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

⁴Was der Nager übriggelassen, das hat die Heuschrecke gefressen, und was die Heuschrecke übrigließ, das hat der Fresser verzehrt, und was der Fresser verschonte, das hat der Verwüster aufgefressen.

⁵Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

⁵Wachet auf, ihr Trunkenen, und weinet und heulet, ihr Weintrinker alle, um den Most, daß er euch vom Munde weggenommen ist.

⁶For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

⁶Denn ein Volk hat mein Land überzogen, das ist mächtig und ohne Zahl; es hat Zähne wie Löwenzähne und ein Gebiß wie eine Löwin.

⁷He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

⁷Meinen Weinstock hat es verwüstet und meinen Feigenbaum kahlgefressen, sogar die Rinde hat es abgeschält und weggeworfen, weiß geworden sind seine Zweige.

⁸Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

⁸Heule wie eine Jungfrau, die wegen des Bräutigams ihrer Jugend mit einem Sack umgürtet ist!

⁹The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD's ministers, mourn.

⁹Speis und Trankopfer sind dem Hause des HERRN entzogen; es trauern die Priester, die Diener des HERRN.

¹⁰The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

¹⁰Das Feld ist verheert; der Acker trauert, denn das Korn ist verwüstet, das Obst verdorrt, der Most vertrocknet, die Oliven sind verwelkt.

¹¹Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

¹¹Enttäuscht sind die Bauern, es heulen die Winzer; wegen des Weizens und der Gerste, denn die Ernte ist verloren.

¹²The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

¹²Der Weinstock ist verdorrt, der Feigenbaum verwelkt, Granaten, Palmen und Apfelbäume, ja, alle Bäume des Feldes sind verdorrt, und den Menschenkindern ist die Freude vergangen.

¹³Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

¹³Umgürtet euch und klagt, ihr Priester! Heulet, ihr Diener des Altars! Geht einher und lieget in Säcken, ihr Diener meines Gottes! Denn Speis und Trankopfer sind dem Hause eures Gottes entzogen.

¹⁴Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

¹⁴Heiligt ein Fasten, beruft eine allgemeine Versammlung, versammelt die Ältesten, alle Bewohner des Landes, zum Hause des HERRN, eures Gottes, und schreiet zum HERRN!

¹⁵Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

¹⁵Ach, was für ein Tag! Ja, der Tag des HERRN ist nahe, er kommt wie eine Verwüstung vom Allmächtigen!

¹⁶Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

¹⁶Ist nicht vor unsern Augen die Nahrung weggenommen worden, Freude und Frohlocken von dem Hause unsres Gottes?

¹⁷The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

¹⁷Verdorrt sind die Samenkörner unter den Schollen, die Speicher stehen leer, die Scheunen zerfallen; ja, das Korn ist verwelkt!

¹⁸How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

¹⁸O wie seufzt das Vieh, wie sind die Rinderherden verstört, weil sie keine Weide haben; auch die Schafherden gehen zugrunde!

¹⁹O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

¹⁹Zu dir, o HERR, will ich rufen; denn das Feuer hat die Auen der Wüste verzehrt, und die Flamme hat alle Bäume versengt!

²⁰The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

²⁰Auch die Tiere des Feldes lechzen nach dir, weil die Wasserbäche vertrocknet sind und das Feuer die Auen der Wüste verzehrt hat.
