¹And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

¹Und er ging hinein und zog durch Jericho.

²And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

²Und siehe, da war ein Mann, genannt Zachäus, ein Oberzöllner, und der war reich.

³And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

³Und er begehrte, Jesus zu sehen, wer er sei, und konnte es nicht wegen der Volksmenge; denn er war klein von Person.

⁴And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

⁴Da lief er voraus und stieg auf einen Maulbeerbaum, damit er ihn sähe; denn dort sollte er vorbeikommen.

⁵And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

⁵Und als Jesus an den Ort kam, blickte er auf und sah ihn und sprach zu ihm: Zachäus, steig eilends herab; denn heute muß ich in deinem Hause einkehren!

⁶And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

⁶Und er stieg eilends herab und nahm ihn auf mit Freuden.

⁷And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

⁷Als sie es aber sahen, murrten sie alle und sprachen: Er ist bei einem sündigen Mann eingekehrt, um Herberge zu nehmen!

⁸And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

⁸Zachäus aber trat hin und sprach zum Herrn: Siehe, Herr, die Hälfte meiner Güter gebe ich den Armen, und wenn ich jemand betrogen habe, so gebe ich es vierfältig zurück.

⁹And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

⁹Jesus sprach zu ihm: Heute ist diesem Hause Heil widerfahren, dieweil auch er ein Sohn Abrahams ist;

¹⁰For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

¹⁰denn des Menschen Sohn ist gekommen, zu suchen und zu retten, was verloren ist.

¹¹And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

¹¹Als sie aber solches hörten, fuhr er fort und sagte ein Gleichnis, weil er nahe bei Jerusalem war und sie meinten, das Reich Gottes würde unverzüglich erscheinen.

¹²He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

¹²Er sprach nun: Ein Edelmann zog in ein fernes Land, um sich die Königswürde zu holen und alsdann wiederzukommen.

¹³And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

¹³Da rief er zehn seiner Knechte und gab ihnen zehn Pfunde und sprach zu ihnen: Handelt damit, bis ich wiederkomme!

¹⁴But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

¹⁴Seine Bürger aber haßten ihn und schickten ihm eine Gesandtschaft nach und ließen sagen: Wir wollen nicht, daß dieser über uns König werde!

¹⁵And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

¹⁵Und es begab sich, als er wiederkam, nachdem er die Königswürde empfangen, da ließ er die Knechte, denen er das Geld gegeben hatte, vor sich rufen, um zu erfahren, was ein jeder erhandelt habe.

¹⁶Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

¹⁶Da kam der erste und sprach: Herr, dein Pfund hat zehn Pfund dazugewonnen!

¹⁷And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

¹⁷Und er sprach zu ihm: Recht so, du braver Knecht! Weil du im Geringsten treu gewesen bist, sollst du Macht haben über zehn Städte!

¹⁸And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

¹⁸Und der zweite kam und sprach: Herr, dein Pfund hat fünf Pfund erworben!

¹⁹And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

¹⁹Er sprach auch zu diesem: Und du sollst über fünf Städte gesetzt sein!

²⁰And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

²⁰Und ein anderer kam und sprach: Herr, siehe, hier ist dein Pfund, welches ich im Schweißtuch aufbewahrt habe!

²¹For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

²¹Denn ich fürchtete dich, weil du ein strenger Mann bist; du nimmst, was du nicht hingelegt, und erntest, was du nicht gesät hast.

²²And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

²²Da sprach er zu ihm: Aus deinem Munde will ich dich richten, du böser Knecht! Wußtest du, daß ich ein strenger Mann bin, daß ich nehme, was ich nicht hingelegt, und ernte, was ich nicht gesät habe?

²³Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

²³Warum hast du denn mein Geld nicht auf der Bank angelegt, so daß ich es bei meiner Ankunft mit Zinsen hätte einziehen können?

²⁴And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

²⁴Und zu den Umstehenden sprach er: Nehmet ihm das Pfund und gebet es dem, der die zehn Pfunde hat!

²⁵(And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

²⁵Da sagten sie zu ihm: Herr, er hat schon zehn Pfunde!

²⁶For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

²⁶Ich sage euch: Wer da hat, dem wird gegeben werden; von dem aber, der nicht hat, wird auch das genommen werden, was er hat.

²⁷But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

²⁷Doch diese meine Feinde, die nicht wollten, daß ich König über sie werde, bringet her und erwürget sie vor mir!

²⁸And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

²⁸Und nachdem er das gesagt, zog er weiter und reiste hinauf nach Jerusalem.

²⁹And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

²⁹Und es begab sich, als er in die Nähe von Bethphage und Bethanien kam, zu dem Berge, welcher Ölberg heißt, sandte er zwei seiner Jünger

³⁰Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.

³⁰und sprach: Gehet hin in den Flecken, der vor euch liegt; und wenn ihr hineinkommt, werdet ihr ein Füllen angebunden finden, auf dem noch nie ein Mensch gesessen ist; bindet es los und führet es her.

³¹And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

³¹Und wenn euch jemand fragt: Warum bindet ihr es los? so sprechet also: Der Herr bedarf seiner!

³²And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.

³²Da gingen die Abgesandten hin und fanden es, wie er ihnen gesagt hatte.

³³And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?

³³Als sie aber das Füllen losbanden, sprachen die Herren desselben zu ihnen: Warum bindet ihr das Füllen los?

³⁴And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

³⁴Sie aber sprachen: Der Herr bedarf seiner!

³⁵And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.

³⁵Und sie brachten es zu Jesus und warfen ihre Kleider auf das Füllen und setzten Jesus darauf.

³⁶And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

³⁶Als er aber weiterzog, breiteten sie auf dem Wege ihre Kleider aus.

³⁷And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

³⁷Als er sich aber schon dem Abhang des Ölberges näherte, fing die ganze Menge der Jünger freudig an, Gott zu loben mit lauter Stimme wegen all der Taten, die sie gesehen hatten,

³⁸Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

³⁸und sprachen: Gepriesen sei der König, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn! Friede im Himmel und Ehre in der Höhe!

³⁹And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.

³⁹Und etliche der Pharisäer unter dem Volk sprachen zu ihm: Meister, weise deine Jünger zurecht!

⁴⁰And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

⁴⁰Und er antwortete und sprach: Ich sage euch, wenn diese schweigen, so werden die Steine schreien!

⁴¹And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

⁴¹Und als er näher kam und die Stadt sah, weinte er über sie

⁴²Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

⁴²und sprach: Wenn doch auch du erkannt hättest an diesem deinem Tage, was zu deinem Frieden dient!

⁴³For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

⁴³Nun aber ist es vor deinen Augen verborgen, daß Tage über dich kommen werden, da deine Feinde einen Wall gegen dich aufwerfen, dich ringsum einschließen und von allen Seiten ängstigen

⁴⁴And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

⁴⁴und dich dem Erdboden gleich machen werden, auch deine Kinder in dir, und in dir keinen Stein auf dem andern lassen werden, darum, weil du die Zeit deiner Heimsuchung nicht erkannt hast!

⁴⁵And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;

⁴⁵Und er ging in den Tempel hinein und fing an, die Verkäufer und Käufer auszutreiben, und sprach zu ihnen:

⁴⁶Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

⁴⁶Es steht geschrieben: «Mein Haus ist ein Bethaus.» Ihr aber habt eine Räuberhöhle daraus gemacht!

⁴⁷And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,

⁴⁷Und er lehrte täglich im Tempel; die Hohenpriester aber und die Schriftgelehrten und die Vornehmsten des Volkes suchten ihn umzubringen.

⁴⁸And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

⁴⁸Und sie fanden nicht, was sie tun sollten; denn das ganze Volk hing an ihm und hörte auf ihn.
