¹When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

¹Als es aber Morgen geworden war, hielten alle Hohenpriester und die Ältesten des Volkes einen Rat wider Jesus, um ihn zum Tode zu bringen.

²And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

²Und sie banden ihn, führten ihn ab und überantworteten ihn dem Landpfleger Pontius Pilatus.

³Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

³Als nun Judas, der ihn verraten hatte, sah, daß er verurteilt war, reute es ihn; und er brachte die dreißig Silberlinge den Hohenpriestern und den Ältesten zurück

⁴Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

⁴und sprach: Ich habe gesündigt, daß ich unschuldiges Blut verraten habe! Sie aber sprachen: Was geht das uns an? Da siehe du zu!

⁵And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

⁵Da warf er die Silberlinge in den Tempel und machte sich davon, ging hin und erhängte sich.

⁶And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

⁶Die Hohenpriester aber nahmen die Silberlinge und sprachen: Wir dürfen sie nicht in den Gotteskasten legen, weil es Blutgeld ist.

⁷And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.

⁷Nachdem sie aber Rat gehalten, kauften sie dafür den Acker des Töpfers, als Begräbnisstätte für die Fremdlinge.

⁸Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

⁸Daher wird jener Acker Blutacker genannt bis auf den heutigen Tag.

⁹Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;

⁹Da wurde erfüllt, was durch den Propheten Jeremia gesagt ist, welcher spricht: «Und sie nahmen die dreißig Silberlinge, den Wert des Geschätzten, den sie geschätzt hatten, von den Kindern Israel

¹⁰And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

¹⁰und gaben sie für den Acker des Töpfers, wie der Herr mir befohlen hatte.»

¹¹And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

¹¹Jesus aber stand vor dem Landpfleger; und der Landpfleger fragte ihn und sprach: Bist du der König der Juden? Jesus sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es!

¹²And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

¹²Und als er von den Hohenpriestern und Ältesten verklagt wurde, antwortete er nichts.

¹³Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

¹³Da sprach Pilatus zu ihm: Hörst du nicht, wie vieles sie wider dich zeugen?

¹⁴And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

¹⁴Und er antwortete ihm auch nicht auf ein einziges Wort, so daß der Landpfleger sich sehr verwunderte.

¹⁵Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.

¹⁵Aber auf das Fest pflegte der Landpfleger dem Volke einen Gefangenen freizugeben, welchen sie wollten.

¹⁶And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

¹⁶Sie hatten aber damals einen berüchtigten Gefangenen namens Barabbas.

¹⁷Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?

¹⁷Als sie nun versammelt waren, sprach Pilatus zu ihnen: Welchen wollt ihr, daß ich euch freilasse, Barabbas oder Jesus, den man Christus nennt?

¹⁸For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

¹⁸Denn er wußte, daß sie ihn aus Neid überantwortet hatten.

¹⁹When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

¹⁹Als er aber auf dem Richterstuhl saß, sandte sein Weib zu ihm und ließ ihm sagen: Habe du nichts zu schaffen mit diesem Gerechten; denn ich habe heute im Traume seinetwegen viel gelitten!

²⁰But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

²⁰Aber die Hohenpriester und die Ältesten beredeten die Volksmenge, den Barabbas zu erbitten, Jesus aber umbringen zu lassen.

²¹The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.

²¹Der Landpfleger aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Welchen von diesen beiden wollt ihr, daß ich euch frei lasse? Sie sprachen: Den Barabbas!

²²Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

²²Pilatus spricht zu ihnen: Was soll ich denn mit Jesus tun, den man Christus nennt? Sie sprachen alle zu ihm: Kreuzige ihn!

²³And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

²³Da sagte der Landpfleger: Was hat er denn Böses getan? Sie aber schrieen noch viel mehr und sprachen: Kreuzige ihn!

²⁴When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

²⁴Als nun Pilatus sah, daß er nichts ausrichtete, sondern daß vielmehr ein Aufruhr entstand, nahm er Wasser und wusch sich vor dem Volk die Hände und sprach: Ich bin unschuldig an dem Blut dieses Gerechten; sehet ihr zu!

²⁵Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

²⁵Und alles Volk antwortete und sprach: Sein Blut komme über uns und über unsere Kinder!

²⁶Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

²⁶Da gab er ihnen den Barabbas los; Jesus aber ließ er geißeln und übergab ihn zur Kreuzigung.

²⁷Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

²⁷Da nahmen die Kriegsknechte des Landpflegers Jesus in das Amthaus und versammelten die ganze Rotte um ihn.

²⁸And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

²⁸Und sie zogen ihn aus und legten ihm einen Purpurmantel um

²⁹And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

²⁹und flochten eine Krone von Dornen, setzten sie auf sein Haupt, gaben ihm ein Rohr in die rechte Hand und beugten vor ihm die Knie, verspotteten ihn und sprachen: Sei gegrüßt, König der Juden!

³⁰And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

³⁰Dann spieen sie ihn an und nahmen das Rohr und schlugen ihn auf das Haupt.

³¹And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

³¹Und nachdem sie ihn verspottet hatten, zogen sie ihm den Mantel aus und legten ihm seine Kleider an, und dann führten sie ihn hin, um ihn zu kreuzigen.

³²And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

³²Als sie aber hinauszogen, fanden sie einen Mann von Kyrene, namens Simon; den zwangen sie, ihm das Kreuz zu tragen.

³³And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

³³Und als sie an den Ort kamen, den man Golgatha nennt, das heißt Schädelstätte,

³⁴They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

³⁴gaben sie ihm Wein mit Galle vermischt zu trinken; und als er es gekostet hatte, wollte er nicht trinken.

³⁵And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

³⁵Nachdem sie ihn nun gekreuzigt hatten, teilten sie seine Kleider unter sich und warfen das Los, auf daß erfüllt würde, was durch den Propheten gesagt ist: «Sie haben meine Kleider unter sich geteilt, und über mein Gewand haben sie das Los geworfen.»

³⁶And sitting down they watched him there;

³⁶Und sie saßen daselbst und hüteten ihn.

³⁷And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

³⁷Und sie befestigten über seinem Haupte die Inschrift seiner Schuld: Dies ist Jesus, der König der Juden.

³⁸Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

³⁸Dann wurden mit ihm zwei Räuber gekreuzigt, einer zur Rechten, der andere zur Linken.

³⁹And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

³⁹Die aber vorübergingen, lästerten ihn, schüttelten die Köpfe

⁴⁰And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

⁴⁰und sprachen: Der du den Tempel zerstörst und in drei Tagen aufbaust, hilf dir selbst! Bist du Gottes Sohn, so steig vom Kreuze herab!

⁴¹Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

⁴¹Gleicherweise spotteten auch die Hohenpriester samt den Schriftgelehrten und Ältesten und sprachen:

⁴²He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

⁴²Andere hat er gerettet, sich selbst kann er nicht retten. Ist er der König Israels, so steige er nun vom Kreuz herab, so wollen wir ihm glauben!

⁴³He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

⁴³Er hat auf Gott vertraut, der befreie ihn jetzt, wenn er Lust an ihm hat; denn er hat ja gesagt: Ich bin Gottes Sohn!

⁴⁴The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

⁴⁴Desgleichen schmähten ihn auch die Mörder, die mit ihm gekreuzigt waren.

⁴⁵Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

⁴⁵Aber von der sechsten Stunde an kam eine Finsternis über das ganze Land bis zur neunten Stunde.

⁴⁶And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

⁴⁶Und um die neunte Stunde rief Jesus mit lauter Stimme: Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani! das heißt: Mein Gott, mein Gott, warum hast du mich verlassen?

⁴⁷Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

⁴⁷Etliche der Anwesenden, als sie es hörten, sprachen nun: Der ruft den Elia!

⁴⁸And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

⁴⁸Und alsbald lief einer von ihnen, nahm einen Schwamm, füllte ihn mit Essig, steckte ihn auf ein Rohr und gab ihm zu trinken.

⁴⁹The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

⁴⁹Die Übrigen aber sprachen: Halt, laßt uns sehen, ob Elia kommt, um ihn zu retten!

⁵⁰Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

⁵⁰Jesus aber schrie abermals mit lauter Stimme und gab den Geist auf.

⁵¹And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

⁵¹Und siehe, der Vorhang im Tempel riß entzwei von oben bis unten, und die Erde erbebte, und die Felsen spalteten sich.

⁵²And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

⁵²Und die Gräber öffneten sich, und viele Leiber der entschlafenen Heiligen standen auf

⁵³And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

⁵³und gingen aus den Gräbern hervor nach seiner Auferstehung und kamen in die heilige Stadt und erschienen vielen.

⁵⁴Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

⁵⁴Als aber der Hauptmann und die, welche mit ihm Jesus bewachten, das Erdbeben sahen und was da geschah, fürchteten sie sich sehr und sprachen: Wahrhaftig, dieser war Gottes Sohn!

⁵⁵And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

⁵⁵Es waren aber daselbst viele Frauen, die von ferne zusahen, welche Jesus von Galiläa her gefolgt waren und ihm gedient hatten;

⁵⁶Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children.

⁵⁶unter ihnen waren Maria Magdalena, und Maria, die Mutter des Jakobus und Joses, und die Mutter der Söhne des Zebedäus.

⁵⁷When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

⁵⁷Als es nun Abend wurde, kam ein reicher Mann von Arimathia, namens Joseph, der auch ein Jünger Jesu geworden war.

⁵⁸He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

⁵⁸Dieser ging zu Pilatus und bat um den Leib Jesu. Da befahl Pilatus, daß er ihm gegeben werde.

⁵⁹And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

⁵⁹Und Joseph nahm den Leichnam, wickelte ihn in reine Leinwand

⁶⁰And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

⁶⁰und legte ihn in seine neue Gruft, welche er im Felsen hatte aushauen lassen; und er wälzte einen großen Stein vor die Tür der Gruft und ging davon.

⁶¹And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

⁶¹Es waren aber daselbst Maria Magdalena und die andere Maria, die saßen dem Grabe gegenüber.

⁶²Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,

⁶²Am andern Tage nun, welcher auf den Rüsttag folgt, versammelten sich die Hohenpriester und die Pharisäer bei Pilatus

⁶³Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

⁶³und sprachen: Herr, wir erinnern uns, daß dieser Verführer sprach, als er noch lebte: Nach drei Tagen werde ich auferstehen.

⁶⁴Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

⁶⁴So befiehl nun, daß das Grab sicher bewacht werde bis zum dritten Tag, damit nicht etwa seine Jünger kommen, ihn stehlen und zum Volke sagen: Er ist von den Toten auferstanden, und der letzte Betrug ärger werde als der erste.

⁶⁵Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

⁶⁵Pilatus sprach zu ihnen: Ihr sollt eine Wache haben! Gehet hin und bewacht es, so gut ihr könnt!

⁶⁶So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

⁶⁶Da gingen sie hin, versiegelten den Stein und bewachten das Grab mit der Wache.
