¹Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,

¹Paulus, ein Gebundener Christi Jesu, und Timotheus, der Bruder, an Philemon, den geliebten und unsren Mitarbeiter;

²And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:

²und an Apphia, die geliebte, und Archippus, unsren Mitstreiter, und an die Gemeinde in deinem Hause.

³Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

³Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unsrem Vater und dem Herrn Jesus Christus!

⁴I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

⁴Ich danke meinem Gott allezeit, wenn ich in meinen Gebeten deiner gedenke,

⁵Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;

⁵weil ich von deiner Liebe und von dem Glauben höre, welchen du an den Herrn Jesus und gegen alle Heiligen hast,

⁶That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

⁶damit die Gemeinschaft deines Glaubens wirksam werde durch Erkenntnis all des Guten, das unter uns ist, für Christus Jesus.

⁷For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.

⁷Denn wir haben viel Freude und Trost ob deiner Liebe; denn die Herzen der Heiligen sind durch dich, Bruder, erquickt worden.

⁸Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,

⁸Darum, wiewohl ich in Christus volle Freiheit hätte, dir zu gebieten, was sich geziemt,

⁹Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

⁹so will ich doch, um der Liebe willen, eher ermahnen, als ein solcher, wie ich bin, nämlich ein alter Paulus, jetzt aber auch ein Gebundener Jesu Christi.

¹⁰I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

¹⁰Ich ermahne dich betreffs meines Sohnes, den ich in meinen Banden gezeugt habe, Onesimus,

¹¹Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

¹¹der dir ehemals unnütz war, jetzt aber dir und mir nützlich ist.

¹²Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:

¹²Ich sende ihn dir hiermit zurück; du aber nimm ihn auf wie mein eigen Herz.

¹³Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

¹³Ich wollte ihn bei mir behalten, damit er mir an deiner Statt in den Banden des Evangeliums diene;

¹⁴But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

¹⁴aber ohne deine Zustimmung wollte ich nichts tun, damit deine Wohltat nicht gleichsam erzwungen, sondern freiwillig wäre.

¹⁵For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;

¹⁵Denn vielleicht ist er darum auf eine kurze Zeit von dir getrennt worden, damit du ihn auf ewig besitzest,

¹⁶Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

¹⁶nicht mehr als einen Sklaven, sondern, was besser ist als ein Sklave, als einen geliebten Bruder, allermeist für mich, wie viel mehr aber für dich, sowohl im Fleische als im Herrn.

¹⁷If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

¹⁷Wenn du mich nun für einen Freund hältst, so nimm ihn auf, wie mich selbst.

¹⁸If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;

¹⁸Wenn er dir aber Schaden zugefügt hat oder etwas schuldig ist, so rechne das mir an.

¹⁹I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.

¹⁹Ich, Paulus, schreibe es eigenhändig: Ich will bezahlen; zu schweigen davon, daß du auch dich selbst mir schuldig bist.

²⁰Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

²⁰Ja, Bruder, laß mich von dir Nutzen haben im Herrn! Erquicke mein Herz im Herrn!

²¹Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.

²¹Im Vertrauen auf deinen Gehorsam schreibe ich dir, weil ich weiß, daß du noch mehr tun wirst, als ich dir sage.

²²But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

²²Zugleich aber bereite mir auch eine Herberge, denn ich hoffe, durch euer Gebet euch geschenkt zu werden.

²³There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;

²³Es grüßen dich Epaphras, mein Mitgefangener in Christus Jesus,

²⁴Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
