¹O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

¹Dem Vorsänger. Ein Psalm Davids. HERR, du hast mich erforscht und kennst mich!

²Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

²Ich sitze oder stehe, so weißt du es; du merkst meine Gedanken von ferne.

³Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

³Du beobachtest mich, ob ich gehe oder liege, und bist vertraut mit allen meinen Wegen;

⁴For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

⁴ja es ist kein Wort auf meiner Zunge, das du, HERR, nicht völlig wüßtest!

⁵Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

⁵Von hinten und von vorn hast du mich eingeschlossen und deine Hand auf mich gelegt.

⁶Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

⁶Diese Erkenntnis ist mir zu wunderbar, zu hoch, als daß ich sie fassen könnte!

⁷Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

⁷Wo soll ich hingehen vor deinem Geist, wo soll ich hinfliehen vor deinem Angesicht?

⁸If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

⁸Führe ich zum Himmel, so bist du da; bettete ich mir im Totenreich, siehe, so bist du auch da!

⁹If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

⁹Nähme ich Flügel der Morgenröte und bliebe am äußersten Meer,

¹⁰Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

¹⁰so würde auch daselbst deine Hand mich führen und deine Rechte mich halten!

¹¹If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

¹¹Spräche ich: «Finsternis möge mich überfallen und das Licht zur Nacht werden um mich her!»,

¹²Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

¹²so ist auch die Finsternis nicht finster für dich, und die Nacht leuchtet wie der Tag; Finsternis ist wie das Licht.

¹³For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

¹³Denn du hast meine Nieren geschaffen, du wobest mich in meiner Mutter Schoß.

¹⁴I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

¹⁴Ich danke dir, daß du mich wunderbar gemacht hast; wunderbar sind deine Werke, und meine Seele erkennt das wohl!

¹⁵My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

¹⁵Mein Gebein war dir nicht verhohlen, da ich im Verborgenen gemacht ward, gewirkt tief unten auf Erden.

¹⁶Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

¹⁶Deine Augen sahen mich, als ich noch unentwickelt war, und es waren alle Tage in dein Buch geschrieben, die noch werden sollten, als derselben noch keiner war.

¹⁷How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

¹⁷Und wie teuer sind mir, o Gott, deine Gedanken! Wie groß ist ihre Summe!

¹⁸If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

¹⁸Wollte ich sie zählen, so würde ihrer mehr sein als der Sand. Wenn ich erwache, so bin ich noch bei dir!

¹⁹Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.

¹⁹Ach Gott, daß du den Gottlosen tötetest und die Blutgierigen von mir weichen müßten!

²⁰For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

²⁰Denn sie empören sich arglistig wider dich; deine Feinde erheben ihre Hand zur Lüge.

²¹Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

²¹Sollte ich nicht hassen, die dich, HERR, hassen, und keinen Abscheu empfinden vor deinen Widersachern?

²²I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

²²Ich hasse sie mit vollkommenem Haß, sie sind mir zu Feinden geworden.

²³Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

²³Erforsche mich, o Gott, und erkenne mein Herz; prüfe mich und erkenne, wie ich es meine;

²⁴And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

²⁴und siehe, ob ich auf bösem Wege bin, und leite mich auf ewigem Wege!
