¹Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

²Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

²Ehe denn die Berge wurden und die Erde und die Welt geschaffen worden, bist du Gott von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit!

³Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

³Du wandelst den Sterblichen in Staub und sprichst: Kehret zurück, ihr Menschenkinder!

⁴For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

⁴Denn tausend Jahre sind vor dir wie der gestrige Tag, der vergangen ist, und wie eine Nachtwache;

⁵Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.

⁵du lässest sie dahinfahren wie einen Strom, sie sind wie ein Schlaf am Morgen, wie das Gras, das aufsprießt,

⁶In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

⁶das am Morgen blüht und grünt, am Abend welkt und verdorrt.

⁷For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

⁷Denn wir werden aufgerieben durch deinen Zorn und schnell dahingerafft durch deinen Grimm.

⁸Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

⁸Du hast unsre Missetaten vor dich hingestellt, unsre verborgenen Sünden in das Licht deines Angesichts.

⁹For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

⁹Denn alle unsre Tage sind dahingeschwunden durch deinen Zorn, wir haben unsre Jahre zugebracht wie ein Geschwätz.

¹⁰The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

¹⁰Unser Leben währt siebzig Jahre, und wenn es hoch kommt, so sind's achtzig Jahre, und worauf man stolz ist, das war Mühsal und Nichtigkeit; denn es fährt schnell dahin, als flögen wir davon.

¹¹Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.

¹¹Wer erkennt aber die Stärke deines Zorns, deinen Grimm so, wie er zu fürchten ist?

¹²So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

¹²Lehre uns unsre Tage richtig zählen, daß wir ein weises Herz erlangen!

¹³Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.

¹³Kehre wieder, o HERR, (wie lange verziehst du?) und habe Mitleid mit deinen Knechten!

¹⁴O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

¹⁴Sättige uns frühe mit deiner Gnade, so wollen wir jubeln und fröhlich sein unser Leben lang.

¹⁵Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

¹⁵Erfreue uns so viele Tage, wie du uns beugtest, so viele Jahre, als wir Unglück sahen.

¹⁶Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.

¹⁶Zeige deinen Knechten dein Werk und deine Herrlichkeit ihren Kindern!

¹⁷And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

¹⁷Und die Freundlichkeit des Herrn, unsres Gottes, sei über uns, und das Werk unsrer Hände ordne du für uns, ja, das Werk unsrer Hände ordne du!
