¹And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;

¹Es begab sich aber im vierten Jahre des Königs Darius, daß des HERRN Wort an Sacharja erging, am vierten Tage des neunten Monats, im Monat Kislev.

²When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,

²Damals sandte Bethel den Sarezer und Regem-Melech samt seinen Leuten, um das Angesicht des HERRN zu besänftigen,

³And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

³indem sie die Priester am Hause des HERRN der Heerscharen und die Propheten fragten: Soll ich auch fernerhin im fünften Monat weinen und mich enthalten, wie ich es nun so viele Jahre getan habe?

⁴Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,

⁴Da erging das Wort des HERRN der Heerscharen an mich also:

⁵Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?

⁵Sage zu allem Volk des Landes und zu den Priestern: Wenn ihr in diesen siebzig Jahren jeweils im fünften und siebenten Monat gefastet und geklagt habt, habt ihr denn da für mich gefastet?

⁶And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?

⁶Und wenn ihr esset und wenn ihr trinket, esset und trinket ihr dann nicht für euch?

⁷Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?

⁷Sind nicht dies die Worte, welche der HERR durch die frühern Propheten verkündigen ließ, als Jerusalem noch bewohnt und in Frieden war samt den umliegenden Städten, und da auch der Süden und die Niederung noch bewohnt waren?

⁸And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying,

⁸Und das Wort des HERRN erging an Sacharja also:

⁹Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:

⁹So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Übet treulich Recht und erweiset jeder seinem Bruder Gnade und Erbarmen;

¹⁰And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

¹⁰bedrücket Witwen und Waisen nicht, auch nicht den Fremdling und den Armen, und denke keiner etwas Arges in seinem Herzen wider seinen Bruder!

¹¹But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

¹¹Aber damals wollten sie nicht aufmerken, sondern waren halsstarrig und verstopften ihre Ohren, um nicht zu hören,

¹²Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

¹²und sie machten ihre Herzen so hart wie Diamant und wollten das Gesetz nicht hören, noch die Worte, die der HERR der Heerscharen durch seinen Geist, durch die früheren Propheten gesandt hatte.

¹³Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:

¹³Darob ward der HERR der Heerscharen heftig erzürnt. Und wie sie nicht hatten hören wollen, als er rief, ebenso (spricht der HERR der Heerscharen) wollte auch ich nicht hören, als sie riefen;

¹⁴But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

¹⁴sondern ich zerstreute sie unter alle Nationen, die ihnen unbekannt gewesen waren, und das Land ward hinter ihnen her verwüstet, daß niemand mehr darin verkehrte; und so haben sie das liebliche Land zu Wüste gemacht.
