¹The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

¹Das Wort des HERRN, welches an Zephanja, den Sohn Kuschis, des Sohnes Gedaljas, des Sohnes Amarjas, des Sohnes Hiskias, erging, in den Tagen Josias, des Sohnes Amons, des Königs von Juda:

²I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD.

²Ich will alles vom Erdboden wegraffen, spricht der HERR.

³I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked: and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD.

³Ich will wegraffen Menschen und Vieh, die Vögel des Himmels und die Fische im Meer und die Ärgernisse mitsamt den Gottlosen, und will den Menschen vom Erdboden vertilgen, spricht der HERR.

⁴I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;

⁴Und ich will meine Hand ausstrecken wider Juda und wider alle Bewohner von Jerusalem und will von diesem Orte ausrotten den Überrest des Baalsdienstes, den Namen der Götzendiener samt den Priestern;

⁵And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham;

⁵auch die, welche auf den Dächern das Heer des Himmels anbeten, samt denen, welche den HERRN anbeten und bei ihm schwören, zugleich aber auch bei Malkom schwören;

⁶And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him.

⁶und die, welche abweichen von der Nachfolge des HERRN und weder den HERRN suchen, noch nach ihm fragen.

⁷Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.

⁷Seid stille vor dem Angesicht Gottes, des HERRN! Denn nahe ist der Tag des HERRN; denn der HERR hat ein Schlachtopfer zugerichtet, er hat seine Geladenen geheiligt.

⁸And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

⁸Und es wird geschehen am Tage des Schlachtopfers des HERRN, daß ich strafen werde die Fürsten und des Königs Söhne und alle, die sich in ausländische Gewänder hüllen;

⁹In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit.

⁹auch werde ich an jenem Tage alle diejenigen strafen, welche über die Schwelle hüpfen, die das Haus ihres Herrn mit gewalttätig und betrügerisch erworbenem Gute füllen.

¹⁰And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills.

¹⁰An jenem Tage, spricht der HERR, wird ein Geschrei vom Fischtor her erschallen und ein Geheul vom andern Stadtteil her und ein großes Krachen von den Hügeln her.

¹¹Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off.

¹¹Heulet, die ihr im Mühlental wohnet! Denn das ganze Krämervolk ist vernichtet, alle Geldabwäger werden ausgerottet.

¹²And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.

¹²Und es wird geschehen, daß ich zu jener Zeit Jerusalem mit Laternen durchsuchen und darin alle die Leute heimsuchen werde, die auf ihren Hefen erstarrt sind, indem sie in ihrem Herzen sagen: «Der HERR wird weder Gutes noch Böses tun!»

¹³Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.

¹³Ihr Vermögen soll der Plünderung und ihre Häuser der Verwüstung anheimfallen; sie werden Häuser bauen und nicht darin wohnen, Weinberge pflanzen und keinen Wein davon trinken.

¹⁴The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.

¹⁴Nahe ist der große Tag des HERRN; nahe ist er und eilend kommt er herbei! Die Stimme des Tages des HERRN! Bitter schreit auf auch der Held.

¹⁵That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

¹⁵Ein Tag des Zorns ist dieser Tag, ein Tag der Angst und der Bedrängnis, ein Tag des Ruins und der Zerstörung, ein Tag der Finsternis und des Dunkels, ein bewölkter und finsterer Tag,

¹⁶A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.

¹⁶ein Tag des Posaunen und Trompetenklangs wider die festen Städte und die hohen Zinnen.

¹⁷And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.

¹⁷Da will ich die Menschen ängstigen, daß sie herumtappen wie die Blinden; denn am HERRN haben sie sich versündigt; darum soll ihr Blut hingeschüttet werden wie Staub und ihr Fleisch wie Mist!

¹⁸Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

¹⁸Weder ihr Silber noch ihr Gold wird sie zu retten vermögen am Tage des Zornes des HERRN, sondern durch das Feuer seines Eifers soll die ganze Erde verzehrt werden; denn einen plötzlichen Untergang wird er allen Bewohnern der Erde bereiten.
