¹Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

¹[] Πετρος, αποστολος Ιησου Χριστου, προς τους παρεπιδημους τους διεσπαρμενους εις Ποντον, Γαλατιαν, Καππαδοκιαν, Ασιαν και Βιθυνιαν,

²Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

²εκλεκτους κατα προγνωσιν Θεου Πατρος, δια του αγιασμου του Πνευματος, εις υπακοην και ραντισμον του αιματος του Ιησου Χριστου· πληθυνθειη χαρις και ειρηνη εις εσας.

³Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

³[] Ευλογητος ο Θεος και Πατηρ του Κυριου ημων Ιησου Χριστου, οστις κατα το πολυ ελεος αυτου ανεγεννησεν ημας εις ελπιδα ζωσαν δια της αναστασεως του Ιησου Χριστου εκ νεκρων,

⁴To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

⁴εις κληρονομιαν αφθαρτον και αμιαντον και αμαραντον, πεφυλαγμενην εν τοις ουρανοις δι' ημας,

⁵Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

⁵οιτινες με την δυναμιν του Θεου φυλαττομεθα δια της πιστεως, εις σωτηριαν ετοιμην να αποκαλυφθη εν τω εσχατω καιρω·

⁶Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

⁶[] δια το οποιον αγαλλιασθε, αν και τωρα ολιγον, εαν χρειασθη, λυπηθητε εν διαφοροις πειρασμοις,

⁷That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

⁷ινα η δοκιμη της πιστεως σας, πολυ τιμιωτερα ουσα παρα το χρυσιον το φθειρομενον δια πυρος δε δοκιμαζομενον, ευρεθη εις επαινον και τιμην και δοξαν οταν φανερωθη ο Ιησους Χριστος,

⁸Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

⁸τον οποιον αν και δεν ειδετε αγαπατε, εις τον οποιον, αν και τωρα δεν βλεπητε αυτον, πιστευοντες ομως αγαλλιασθε με χαραν ανεκλαλητον και ενδοξον,

⁹Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

⁹απολαμβανοντες το τελος της πιστεως σας, την σωτηριαν των ψυχων.

¹⁰Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

¹⁰[] Περι της οποιας σωτηριας εξεζητησαν και εξηρευνησαν οι προφηται οι προφητευσαντες περι της χαριτος, ητις εμελλε να ελθη εις εσας·

¹¹Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

¹¹ερευνωντες εις τινα η ποιον καιρον εφανερονε το εν αυτοις Πνευμα του Χριστου, οτε προεμαρτυρει τα παθη του Χριστου και τας μετα ταυτα δοξας·

¹²Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

¹²εις τους οποιους απεκαλυφθη οτι ουχι δι' εαυτους, αλλα δι' ημας υπηρετουν αυτα, τα οποια τωρα ανηγγελθησαν προς εσας δια των κηρυξαντων το ευαγγελιον εις εσας εν Πνευματι Αγιω τω αποσταλεντι απ' ουρανου, εις τα οποια επιθυμουσιν οι αγγελοι να παρακυψωσι.

¹³Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

¹³[] Δια τουτο αναζωσθεντες τας οσφυας της διανοιας σας, εγκρατευεσθε και εχετε τελειαν ελπιδα εις την χαριν την ερχομενην εις εσας, οταν αποκαλυφθη ο Ιησους Χριστος,

¹⁴As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

¹⁴ως τεκνα υπακοης μη συμμορφουμενοι με τας προτερας επιθυμιας, τας οποιας ειχετε εν αγνοια υμων,

¹⁵But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

¹⁵αλλα καθως ειναι αγιος εκεινος, οστις σας εκαλεσεν, ουτω και σεις γινεσθε αγιοι εν παση διαγωγη·

¹⁶Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

¹⁶διοτι ειναι γεγραμμενον· Αγιοι γινεσθε, διοτι εγω ειμαι αγιος.

¹⁷And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

¹⁷Και εαν επικαλησθε Πατερα τον κρινοντα απροσωποληπτως κατα το εργον εκαστου, διαγετε μετα φοβου τον καιρον της παροικιας σας,

¹⁸Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

¹⁸εξευροντες οτι δεν ελυτρωθητε απο της ματαιας πατροπαραδοτου διαγωγης υμων δια φθαρτων, αργυριου η χρυσιου,

¹⁹But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

¹⁹αλλα δια του τιμιου αιματος του Χριστου, ως αμνου αμωμου και ασπιλου,

²⁰Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

²⁰οστις ητο μεν προωρισμενος προ καταβολης κοσμου, εφανερωθη δε εν τοις εσχατοις καιροις δια σας,

²¹Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

²¹τους πιστευοντας δι' αυτου εις τον Θεον, τον αναστησαντα αυτον εκ νεκρων και δοντα εις αυτον δοξαν, ωστε η πιστις σας και η ελπις να ηναι εις τον Θεον.

²²Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

²²Καθαρισαντες λοιπον τας ψυχας σας με την υπακοην της αληθειας δια του Πνευματος προς φιλαδελφιαν ανυποκριτον, αγαπησατε ενθερμως αλληλους εκ καθαρας καρδιας,

²³Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

²³επειδη ανεγεννηθητε ουχι εκ φθαρτου σπερματος, αλλα αφθαρτου, δια του λογου του Θεου του ζωντος και μενοντος εις τον αιωνα.

²⁴For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

²⁴[] Διοτι Πασα σαρξ ειναι ως χορτος, και πασα δοξα ανθρωπου ως ανθος χορτου. Εξηρανθη ο χορτος, και το ανθος αυτου εξεπεσεν.

²⁵But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

²⁵Ο λογος ομως του Κυριου μενει εις τον αιωνα. Και ουτος ειναι ο λογος ο ευαγγελισθεις εις εσας.
