¹Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.

¹[] Οκτω ετων ηλικιας ητο ο Ιωσιας οτε εβασιλευσε· και εβασιλευσεν εν Ιερουσαλημ ετη τριακοντα και εν.

²And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.

²Και επραξε το ευθες ενωπιον του Κυριου, και περιεπατησεν εν ταις οδοις Δαβιδ του πατρος αυτου, και δεν εξεκλινε δεξια η αριστερα.

³For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.

³Και εν τω ογδοω ετει της βασιλειας αυτου, νεος ων ετι, ηρχισε να εκζητη τον Θεον του Δαβιδ του πατρος αυτου· και εν τω δωδεκατω ετει ηρχισε να καθαριζη τον Ιουδαν και την Ιερουσαλημ απο των υψηλων τοπων και απο των αλσεων και των γλυπτων και των χωνευτων.

⁴And they brake down the altars of Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.

⁴Και κατεστρεψαν εμπροσθεν αυτου τα θυσιαστηρια των Βααλειμ· και τα ειδωλα τα υπερανω αυτων κατεκρημνισε· και τα αλση και τα γλυπτα και τα χωνευτα κατεσυντριψε και ελεπτυνεν εις σκονην και ερριψεν αυτην επι τα μνηματα των θυσιαζοντων εις αυτα.

⁵And he burnt the bones of the priests upon their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.

⁵Και τα οστα των ιερεων εκαυσεν επι των θυσιαστηριων αυτων και εκαθαρισε τον Ιουδαν και την Ιερουσαλημ.

⁶And so did he in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, with their mattocks round about.

⁶Και εκαμε το αυτο εις τας πολεις του Μανασση και Εφραιμ και Συμεων και μεχρι του Νεφθαλι, κυκλω των ηρημωμενων τοπων αυτων.

⁷And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.

⁷Και αφου κατεστρεψε τα θυσιαστηρια και τα αλση και κατελεπτυνεν εις σκονην τα γλυπτα και κατεκοψε παντα τα ειδωλα δια πασης της γης του Ισραηλ, επεστρεψεν εις Ιερουσαλημ.

⁸Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.

⁸[] Εν δε τω δεκατω ογδοω ετει της βασιλειας αυτου, αφου εκαθαρισε την γην και τον ναον, εξαπεστειλε τον Σαφαν υιον του Αζαλιου, και τον Μαασιαν τον αρχοντα της πολεως, και τον Ιωαχ υιον του Ιωαχαζ τον υπομνηματογραφον, δια να επισκευασωσι τον οικον Κυριου του Θεου αυτου.

⁹And when they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem.

⁹Και ελθοντες προς Χελκιαν τον ιερεα τον μεγαν, παρεδωκαν το αργυριον το εισαχθεν εις τον οικον του Θεου, το οποιον οι Λευιται οι φυλαττοντες τας θυρας εσυναξαν εκ της χειρος του Μανασση και Εφραιμ και εκ παντος του επιλοιπου του Ισραηλ και εκ παντος του Ιουδα και Βενιαμιν· και επεστρεψαν εις Ιερουσαλημ.

¹⁰And they put it in the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the LORD, to repair and amend the house:

¹⁰Και εδωκαν αυτα εις την χειρα των ποιουντων τα εργα, των επιστατουντων εν τω οικω του Κυριου· οι δε ποιουντες τα εργα, τα οποια ειργαζοντο εν τω οικω του Κυριου, παρεδωκαν αυτο δια να επισκευασωσι και να επιδιορθωσωσι τον οικον·

¹¹Even to the artificers and builders gave they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

¹¹εις τους τεκτονας και οικοδομους εδωκαν αυτο, δια ν' αγορασωσι λιθους πελεκητους και ξυλα δια δοκους, και δια να στεγασωσι τους οικους τους οποιους κατεστρεψαν οι βασιλεις του Ιουδα.

¹²And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of music.

¹²Και ειργαζοντο οι ανδρες το εργον εν πιστει· επιτηρηται δε επ' αυτων ησαν Ιααθ και Οβαδιας, οι Λευιται, εκ των υιων Μεραρι· και Ζαχαριας και Μεσουλλαμ, εκ των υιων των Κααθιτων, δια να κατεπειγωσι το εργον· και εκ των Λευιτων παντες οι επιστημονες μουσικων οργανων.

¹³Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.

¹³Ησαν ετι επι των αχθοφορων και εργοδιωκται παντων των εργαζομενων, καθ' οποιανδηποτε υπηρεσιαν· και εκ των Λευιτων ησαν γραμματεις και επισταται και θυρωροι.

¹⁴And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.

¹⁴[] Και ενω εξεφερον το αργυριον το εισαχθεν εις τον οικον του Κυριου, ευρηκε Χελκιας ο ιερευς το βιβλιον του νομου του Κυριου, του δοθεντος δια χειρος του Μωυσεως.

¹⁵And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

¹⁵Και απεκριθη ο Χελκιας και ειπε προς Σαφαν τον γραμματεα, ευρηκα βιβλιον του νομου εν τω οικω του Κυριου. Και εδωκεν ο Χελκιας το βιβλιον εις τον Σαφαν.

¹⁶And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.

¹⁶Και ο Σαφαν εφερε το βιβλιον προς τον βασιλεα και επειτα εδωκε λογον εις τον βασιλεα, λεγων, Οι δουλοι σου καμνουσι παν το διορισθεν εις αυτους·

¹⁷And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and to the hand of the workmen.

¹⁷και ηριθμησαν το αργυριον το ευρεθεν εν τω οικω του Κυριου, και παρεδωκαν αυτο εις την χειρα των επιστατων και εις την χειρα των ποιουντων τα εργα.

¹⁸Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

¹⁸Και απηγγειλε Σαφαν ο γραμματευς προς τον βασιλεα, λεγων, Χελκιας ιερευς εδωκεν εις εμε βιβλιον. Και ανεγνωσεν αυτο ο Σαφαν ενωπιον του βασιλεως.

¹⁹And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.

¹⁹Και ως ηκουσεν ο βασιλευς τους λογους του νομου, διεσχισε τα ιματια αυτου.

²⁰And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king's, saying,

²⁰Και προσεταξεν ο βασιλευς Χελκιαν και Αχικαμ τον υιον του Σαφαν και Αβδων τον υιον του Μιχαια και Σαφαν τον γραμματεα και Ασαιαν τον δουλον του βασιλεως, λεγων,

²¹Go, enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.

²¹Υπαγετε, ερωτησατε τον Κυριον περι εμου και περι των εναπολειφθεντων εν τω Ισραηλ και εν τω Ιουδα, περι των λογων του βιβλιου του ευρεθεντος· διοτι μεγαλη ειναι η οργη του Κυριου ητις εξεχυθη εφ' ημας, επειδη οι πατερες ημων δεν εφυλαξαν τον λογον του Κυριου, ωστε να πραξωσι κατα παντα τα γεγραμμενα εν τω βιβλιω τουτω.

²²And Hilkiah, and they that the king had appointed, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college:) and they spake to her to that effect.

²²Τοτε υπηγεν ο Χελκιας και οι παρα του βασιλεως προς Ολδαν την προφητισσαν, την γυναικα του Σαλλουμ υιου του Τικβα, υιου του Ασρα, του ιματιοφυλακος, κατωκει δε αυτη εν Ιερουσαλημ, κατα το Μισνε· και ελαλησαν προς αυτην κατα ταυτα.

²³And she answered them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell ye the man that sent you to me,

²³Η δε ειπε προς αυτους· Ουτω λεγει Κυριος ο Θεος του Ισραηλ· Ειπατε προς τον ανθρωπον οστις σας απεστειλε προς εμε,

²⁴Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:

²⁴Ουτω λεγει Κυριος· Ιδου, εγω επιφερω κακα επι τον τοπον τουτον και επι τους κατοικους αυτου, πασας τας καταρας τας γεγραμμενας εν τω βιβλιω, το οποιον ανεγνωσαν ενωπιον του βασιλεως του Ιουδα·

²⁵Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be quenched.

²⁵επειδη με εγκατελιπον και εθυμιασαν εις αλλους θεους, δια να με παροργισωσι δια παντα τα εργα των χειρων αυτων· δια τουτο θελει εκχυθη ο θυμος μου επι τον τοπον τουτον και δεν θελει σβεσθη.

²⁶And as for the king of Judah, who sent you to enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard;

²⁶Προς δε τον βασιλεα του Ιουδα, οστις σας απεστειλε δια να ερωτησητε τον Κυριον, ουτω θελετε ειπει προς αυτον· Ουτω λεγει Κυριος ο Θεος του Ισραηλ, περι των λογων τους οποιους ηκουσας·

²⁷Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.

²⁷επειδη η καρδια σου ηπαλυνθη, και εταπεινωθης ενωπιον του Θεου, οτε ηκουσας τους λογους αυτου εναντιον του τοπου τουτου και εναντιον των κατοικων αυτου, και εταπεινωθης ενωπιον μου και διεσχισας τα ιματια σου και εκλαυσας ενωπιον μου, δια τουτο και εγω επηκουσα, λεγει Κυριος·

²⁸Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.

²⁸ιδου, εγω θελω σε συναξει εις τους πατερας σου, και θελεις συναχθη εις τον ταφον σου εν ειρηνη, και δεν θελουσιν ιδει οι οφθαλμοι σου παντα τα κακα, τα οποια εγω επιφερω επι τον τοπον τουτον και επι τους κατοικους αυτου. Και εφεραν αποκρισιν προς τον βασιλεα.

²⁹Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

²⁹[] Και απεστειλεν ο βασιλευς και συνηγαγε παντας τους πρεσβυτερους του Ιουδα και της Ιερουσαλημ.

³⁰And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.

³⁰Και ανεβη ο βασιλευς εις τον οικον του Κυριου, και παντες οι ανδρες Ιουδα και οι κατοικοι της Ιερουσαλημ και οι ιερεις και οι Λευιται και πας ο λαος, απο μεγαλου εως μικρου· και ανεγνωσεν εις επηκοον αυτων παντας τους λογους του βιβλιου της διαθηκης, του ευρεθεντος εν τω οικω του Κυριου.

³¹And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.

³¹Και σταθεις ο βασιλευς επι του τοπου αυτου, εκαμε την διαθηκην ενωπιον του Κυριου, να περιπατη κατοπιν του Κυριου και να φυλαττη τας εντολας αυτου και τα μαρτυρια αυτου και τα διαταγματα αυτου εξ ολης αυτου της καρδιας και εξ ολης αυτου της ψυχης, ωστε να εκτελη τους λογους της διαθηκης τους γεγραμμενους εν τω βιβλιω τουτω.

³²And he caused all that were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

³²Και εκαμε παντας τους ευρεθεντας εν Ιερουσαλημ και τον Βενιαμιν να σταθωσιν εν τουτω. Και οι κατοικοι της Ιερουσαλημ εκαμον κατα την διαθηκην του Θεου, του Θεου των πατερων αυτων.

³³And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

³³Και αφηρεσεν ο Ιωσιας παντα τα βδελυγματα εκ παντων των τοπων των υιων Ισραηλ, και εκαμε παντας τους ευρεθεντας εν τω Ισραηλ να λατρευωσι Κυριον τον Θεον αυτων· κατα πασας τας ημερας αυτου δεν απεμακρυνθησαν απο οπισθεν Κυριου του Θεου των πατερων αυτων.
