¹Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

¹[] Μετα δε τα πραγματα ταυτα, επι της βασιλειας Αρταξερξου βασιλεως της Περσιας, Εσδρας ο υιος του Σεραιου, υιου του Αζαρια, υιου του Χελκια,

²The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,

²υιου του Σαλλουμ, υιου του Σαδωκ, υιου του Αχιτωβ,

³The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,

³υιου του Αμαρια, υιου του Αζαρια, υιου του Μεραιωθ,

⁴The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,

⁴υιου του Ζεραια, υιου του Οζι, υιου του Βουκκι,

⁵The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:

⁵υιου του Αβισσουα, υιου του Φινεες, υιου του Ελεαζαρ, υιου του Ααρων του ιερεως του πρωτου,

⁶This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.

⁶ουτος ο Εσδρας ανεβη απο της Βαβυλωνος, ων γραμματευς εμπειρος εις τον νομον του Μωυσεως, τον οποιον εδωκε Κυριος ο Θεος του Ισραηλ· και ο βασιλευς εχαρισεν εις αυτον παντα τα αιτηματα αυτου, κατα την επ' αυτον χειρα Κυριου του Θεου αυτου.

⁷And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.

⁷Ανεβησαν και τινες εκ των υιων Ισραηλ και εκ των ιερεων, και οι Λευιται, και οι ψαλτωδοι και οι πυλωροι και οι Νεθινειμ, εις Ιερουσαλημ, εν τω εβδομω ετει Αρταξερξου του βασιλεως.

⁸And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.

⁸Και ηλθον εις Ιερουσαλημ τον πεμπτον μηνα του εβδομου ετους του βασιλεως.

⁹For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.

⁹Διοτι την πρωτην του πρωτον μηνος ηρχισεν ουτος να αναβαινη απο της Βαβυλωνος, και την πρωτην του πεμπτου μηνος ηλθεν εις Ιερουσαλημ, κατα την επ' αυτον αγαθην χειρα του Θεου αυτου.

¹⁰For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

¹⁰Επειδη ο Εσδρας ειχεν ετοιμασει την καρδιαν αυτου εις το να εκζητη τον νομον του Κυριου, και να εκτελη και να διδασκη εις τον Ισραηλ διαταγματα και κρισεις.

¹¹Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.

¹¹[] Τουτο δε ειναι το αντιγραφον της επιστολης, την οποιαν ο βασιλευς Αρταξερξης εδωκεν εις τον Εσδραν τον ιερεα, τον γραμματεα, γραμματεα των λογων των εντολων του Κυριου και των διαταγματων αυτου προς τον Ισραηλ·

¹²Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.

¹²Αρταξερξης, βασιλευς των βασιλεων, προς Εσδραν τον ιερεα, τον γραμματεα του νομου του Θεου του ουρανου, τον τελειον, και τα λοιπα.

¹³I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.

¹³Εξεδοθη παρ' εμου διαταγη, ωστε παντες οι εκ του λαου του Ισραηλ και των ιερεων αυτου και των Λευιτων, οι εν τω βασιλειω μου, οσοι θελουσιν αυτοπροαιρετως να αναβωσιν εις Ιερουσαλημ, να ελθωσι μετα σου.

¹⁴Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;

¹⁴Διοτι πεμπεσαι παρα του βασιλεως και των επτα συμβουλων αυτου, δια να επισκεφθης την Ιουδαιαν και Ιερουσαλημ, κατα τον εν τη χειρι σου νομον του Θεου σου·

¹⁵And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,

¹⁵και να φερης το αργυριον και το χρυσιον, το οποιον ο βασιλευς και οι συμβουλοι αυτου προσεφεραν αυτοπροαιρετως εις τον Θεον του Ισραηλ, του οποιου το κατοικητηριον ειναι εν Ιερουσαλημ,

¹⁶And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:

¹⁶και απαν το αργυριον και χρυσιον οσον συναξης καθ' ολην την επαρχιαν της Βαβυλωνος, μετα των προαιρετικων προσφορων του λαου και των ιερεων, των προσφεροντων αυτοπροαιρετως δια τον εν Ιερουσαλημ οικον του Θεου αυτων·

¹⁷That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

¹⁷δια ν' αγορασης ταχεως δια του αργυριου τουτου μοσχους, κριους, αρνια, τας εξ αλφιτων προσφορας αυτων και τας σπονδας αυτων, και να προσφερης αυτα επι το θυσιαστηριον του οικου του Θεου σας, το εν Ιερουσαλημ.

¹⁸And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.

¹⁸Και παν ο, τι φανη αρεστον εις σε και εις τους αδελφους σου να καμητε δια του υπολοιπου αργυριου και χρυσιου, τουτο καμετε, κατα το θελημα του Θεου σας.

¹⁹The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.

¹⁹Και τα σκευη, τα δοθεντα εις σε δια την υπηρεσιαν του οικου του Θεου σου, παραδος ενωπιον του Θεου της Ιερουσαλημ.

²⁰And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king's treasure house.

²⁰Και ο, τι περιπλεον χρειασθη δια τον οικον του Θεου σου, ο, τι συμβη να εξοδευσης, εξοδευε εκ του βασιλικου θησαυροφυλακιου.

²¹And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,

²¹Και παρ' εμου, εμου του Αρταξερξου βασιλεως, εξεδοθη διαταγη εις παντας τους θησαυροφυλακας τους περαν του ποταμου, παν ο, τι ζητηση παρ' υμων ο Εσδρας ο ιερευς, ο γραμματευς του νομου του Θεου του ουρανου, να γινηται παραυτα,

²²Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.

²²εως εκατον ταλαντων αργυριου, και εως εκατον κορων σιτου, και εως εκατον βαθ οινου, και εως εκατον βαθ ελαιου, και αλας απροσδιοριστον,

²³Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

²³Παν ο, τι ειναι προστεταγμενον παρα του Θεου του ουρανου, ας γεινη μετα σπουδης δια τον οικον του Θεου του ουρανου· δια να μη ελθη οργη επι την βασιλειαν του βασιλεως και των υιων αυτου.

²⁴Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.

²⁴Ετι γνωστοποιειται εις εσας, οτι εις ουδενα εκ των ιερεων και Λευιτων, ψαλτωδων, θυρωρων, Νεθινειμ και υπηρετων τουτου του οικου του Θεου, δεν θελει εισθαι νομιμον να επιβληθη φορος, τελωνιον η διαγωγιον επ' αυτους.

²⁵And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.

²⁵Και συ, Εσδρα, κατα την εν σοι του Θεου σου σοφιαν, καταστησον κριτας και δικαστας, δια να κρινωσι παντα τον λαον τον περαν του ποταμου, παντας τους ειδοτας τους νομους του Θεου σου· και διδασκετε τους μη ειδοτας.

²⁶And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.

²⁶Και πας οστις δεν καμνει τον νομον του Θεου σου και τον νομον του βασιλεως, ας εκτεληται ταχεως κρισις επ' αυτον, ειτε εις θανατον, ειτε εις εξοριαν, η εις δημευσιν υπαρχοντων, η εις φυλακην.

²⁷Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:

²⁷[] Ευλογητος Κυριος ο Θεος των πατερων ημων, οστις εδωκε τοιαυτα εις την καρδιαν του βασιλεως, δια να δοξαση τον οικον του Κυριου, τον εν Ιερουσαλημ·

²⁸And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.

²⁸και εκαμε να ευρω ελεος ενωπιον του βασιλεως και των συμβουλων αυτου και παντων των αρχοντων του βασιλεως των δυνατων. Και εγω ενισχυθην κατα την επ' εμε χειρα Κυριου του Θεου μου, και συνηγαγον εκ του Ισραηλ αρχοντας δια να συναναβωσι μετ' εμου.
