1Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
1[] Μη ζηλευε τους κακους ανθρωπους, μηδε επιθυμει να ησαι μετ' αυτων·
2For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
2διοτι η καρδια αυτων μελετα καταδυναστευσιν, και τα χειλη αυτων λαλουσι κακουργιας.
3Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
3[] Δια της σοφιας οικοδομειται οικος και δια της συνεσεως στερεονεται.
4And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
4Και δια της γνωσεως τα ταμεια θελουσι γεμισθη απο παντος πολυτιμου και ευφροσυνου πλουτου.
5A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
5Ο σοφος ανθρωπος ισχυει, και ο ανθρωπος ο φρονιμος αυξανει δυναμιν.
6For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.
6Διοτι δια σοφων βουλων θελεις καμει τον πολεμον σου· εκ του πληθους δε των συμβουλων προερχεται σωτηρια.
7Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
7[] Η σοφια ειναι παραπολυ υψηλη δια τον αφρονα· δεν θελει ανοιξει το στομα αυτου εν τη πυλη.
8He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
8Οστις μελετα να πραξη κακον, θελει ονομασθη ανηρ κακεντρεχης.
9The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
9Η μελετη της αφροσυνης ειναι αμαρτια· και ο χλευαστης βδελυγμα εις τους ανθρωπους.
10If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
10[] Εαν μικροψυχησης εν τη ημερα της συμφορας, μικρα ειναι η δυναμις σου.
11If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
11[] Ελευθερονε τους συρομενους εις θανατον, και μη αποσυρου απο των οντων εις ακμην σφαγης.
12If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
12Εαν ειπης, Ιδου, ημεις δεν εξευρομεν τουτο· δεν γνωριζει ο σταθμιζων τας καρδιας; και ο φυλαττων την ψυχην σου και αποδιδων εις εκαστον κατα τα εργα αυτου, δεν εξευρει;
13My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
13[] Υιε μου, φαγε μελι, διοτι ειναι καλον· και κηρηθραν, διοτι ειναι γλυκεια επι του ουρανισκον σου·
14So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
14Τοιαυτη θελει εισθαι εις την ψυχην σου η γνωσις της σοφιας· οταν ευρης αυτην, τοτε θελεις λαβει αμοιβην, και η ελπις σου δεν θελει εκκοπη.
15Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
15[] Μη στηνε παγιδα, ω ανομε, κατα της κατοικιας του δικαιου· μη ταραξης τον τοπον της αναπαυσεως αυτου·
16For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
16διοτι ο δικαιος πιπτει επτακις και σηκονεται· αλλ' οι ασεβεις θελουσι πεσει εις ολεθρον.
17Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
17[] Εις την πτωσιν του εχθρου σου μη χαρης· και εις το ολισθημα αυτου ας μη ευφραινεται η καρδια σου·
18Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
18Μηποτε ο Κυριος ιδη και φανη τουτο κακον εις τους οφθαλμους αυτου και μεταστρεψη τον θυμον αυτου απ' αυτου.
19Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:
19[] Μη αγανακτει περι των πονηρευομενων· μη ζηλευε τους ασεβεις·
20For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
20διοτι δεν θελει εχει τελος αγαθον ο κακος· ο λυχνος των ασεβων θελει σβεσθη.
21My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
21[] Υιε μου, φοβου τον Κυριον και τον βασιλεα· και μη εχε συγκοινωνιαν μετα στασιαστων·
22For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
22διοτι η συμφορα αυτων θελει επελθει εξαιφνης· και τις γνωριζει αμφοτερων τας τιμωριας;
23These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
23[] Ταυτα προσετι ειναι δια τους σοφους. Η προσωποληψια εν τη κρισει δεν ειναι καλον.
24He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
24Τον λεγοντα προς τον ασεβη, Εισαι δικαιος, τουτον οι λαοι θελουσι καταρασθη και τα εθνη θελουσι βδελυττεσθαι·
25But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
25αλλ' εις τους ελεγχοντας αυτον θελει εισθαι χαρις, και ευλογια αγαθων θελει ελθει επ' αυτους.
26Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.
26Οστις αποκρινεται λογους ορθους, ειναι ως ο φιλων τα χειλη.
27Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
27[] Διαταττε το εργον σου εξω και προετοιμαζε αυτο εις σεαυτον εν τω αγρω· και επειτα οικοδομησον τον οικον σου.
28Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.
28[] Μη ησο μαρτυς αδικος κατα του πλησιον σου, μηδε απατα δια των χειλεων σου.
29Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
29Μη ειπης, Καθως εκαμεν εις εμε, ουτω θελω καμει εις αυτον· θελω αποδωσει εις τον ανθρωπον κατα το εργον αυτου.
30I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
30[] Διεβαινον δια του αγρου του οκνηρου και δια του αμπελωνος του ανθρωπου του ενδεους φρενων·
31And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
31και ιδου, πανταχου ειχον βλαστησει ακανθαι· κνιδαι ειχον σκεπασει το προσωπον αυτου, και το λιθοφραγμα αυτου ητο κατακεκρημνισμενον.
32Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
32Τοτε εγω θεωρησας εσυλλογισθην εν τη καρδια μου· ειδον, και ελαβον διδασκαλιαν.
33Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
33Ολιγος υπνος, ολιγος νυσταγμος, ολιγη συμπλοκη των χειρων εις τον υπνον·
34So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
34επειτα η πτωχεια σου ερχεται ως ταχυδρομος, και η ενδεια σου ως ανηρ ενοπλος.
