¹And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.

¹Setelah kedudukan Rehabeam sebagai raja telah menjadi kuat, ia dan seluruh rakyat Israel mengabaikan hukum TUHAN,

²And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the LORD,

²dan tidak setia kepada-Nya. Karena itu TUHAN menghukum mereka. Pada tahun kelima pemerintahan Rehabeam, Sisak raja Mesir menyerang Yerusalem

³With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.

³dengan 1.200 kereta perang, 60.000 tentara berkuda, dan sejumlah prajurit yang tak terhitung banyaknya, termasuk pasukan Libia, Suki dan Sudan.

⁴And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.

⁴Ia merebut kota-kota berbenteng di Yehuda lalu maju sampai ke Yerusalem.

⁵Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.

⁵Pada waktu itu Raja Rehabeam dan para pemimpin Yehuda telah berkumpul di Yerusalem karena melarikan diri dari Sisak. Nabi Semaya datang kepada mereka dan berkata, "Begini kata TUHAN, 'Kamu meninggalkan Aku, jadi sekarang Aku pun meninggalkan kamu sehingga kamu dikuasai oleh Sisak.'"

⁶Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous.

⁶Raja dan para pemimpin mengakui bahwa mereka sudah berdosa. Mereka berkata, "Apa yang dilakukan TUHAN itu adil."

⁷And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

⁷Ketika TUHAN melihat bahwa mereka telah merendahkan diri, Ia berbicara lagi kepada Semaya, kata-Nya, "Karena mereka mengakui dosa mereka, maka Aku tak akan membinasakan mereka. Aku akan segera meluputkan mereka; Yerusalem tidak akan hancur. Meskipun begitu, Sisak

⁸Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

⁸akan menguasai mereka, supaya mereka tahu perbedaan antara mengabdi kepada-Ku dan mengabdi kepada penguasa-penguasa dunia."

⁹So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

⁹Maka datanglah Raja Sisak menyerang kota Yerusalem dan merampas barang-barang berharga yang terdapat di Rumah TUHAN dan di istana raja, juga perisai-perisai emas yang dibuat oleh Raja Salomo.

¹⁰Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king's house.

¹⁰Sebagai gantinya Rehabeam membuat perisai-perisai perunggu, dan mempercayakannya kepada para perwira yang mengawal pintu gerbang istana.

¹¹And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.

¹¹Setiap kali raja pergi ke Rumah TUHAN, para pengawal membawa perisai-perisai itu, kemudian mengembalikannya ke kamar jaga.

¹²And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.

¹²Karena raja merendahkan diri di hadapan TUHAN, dan juga karena masih ada hal-hal yang baik di Yehuda maka redalah kemarahan TUHAN kepada Rehabeam dan tidak membinasakan dia sama sekali.

¹³So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.

¹³Rehabeam memerintah di Yerusalem dan kekuasaannya semakin besar. Ia berumur 41 tahun ketika menjadi raja, dan ia memerintah 17 tahun lamanya di Yerusalem, kota yang dari seluruh wilayah Israel dipilih TUHAN untuk menjadi tempat ibadat kepada-Nya. Ibu Rehabeam adalah Naama dari negeri Amon.

¹⁴And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

¹⁴Rehabeam berbuat jahat karena tidak berusaha melakukan kehendak TUHAN.

¹⁵Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.

¹⁵Kisah tentang Rehabeam dari mula sampai akhir dan silsilahnya dicatat dalam buku Sejarah Nabi Semaya dan dalam buku Sejarah Nabi Ido. Antara Rehabeam dan Yerobeam selalu saja terjadi peperangan.

¹⁶And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.

¹⁶Rehabeam meninggal dan dikuburkan di makam raja-raja di Kota Daud. Abia putranya menjadi raja menggantikan dia.
