¹Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

¹TUHAN menyuruh aku pergi membeli sarung pendek dari lenan dan memakainya, tapi aku tidak boleh mencelupkannya ke dalam air.

²So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

²Maka pergilah aku membeli sarung pendek itu, lalu memakainya.

³And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

³Kemudian TUHAN berbicara lagi kepadaku, katanya,

⁴Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

⁴"Pergilah ke Sungai Efrat, dan sembunyikan sarung pendek itu di celah-celah batu."

⁵So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

⁵Maka sesuai dengan perintah TUHAN pergilah aku dan menyembunyikan sarung pendek itu di dekat Sungai Efrat.

⁶And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

⁶Beberapa waktu kemudian TUHAN menyuruh aku pergi lagi ke Sungai Efrat untuk mengambil sarung pendek itu.

⁷Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

⁷Maka pergilah aku, dan mengeluarkan sarung pendek itu dari tempat aku menyembunyikannya. Ternyata sarung itu sudah lapuk, dan sama sekali tidak berguna lagi.

⁸Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

⁸Lalu TUHAN berbicara lagi kepadaku, kata-Nya,

⁹Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

⁹"Begitulah caranya Aku akan bertindak terhadap orang Yehuda dan penduduk Yerusalem. Aku akan menghancurkan keangkuhan mereka yang luar biasa itu.

¹⁰This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

¹⁰Bangsa yang jahat ini sangat keras kepala dan tak mau taat kepada-Ku. Mereka beribadat dan berbakti kepada ilah-ilah lain. Itu sebabnya mereka akan menjadi seperti sarung pendek yang tak berguna itu.

¹¹For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

¹¹Seperti sarung pendek terikat erat pada pinggang pemakainya, demikianlah Aku bermaksud supaya umat Israel dan Yehuda terikat erat pada-Ku. Dengan demikian mereka menjadi umat-Ku yang membuat nama-Ku terpuji dan dihormati. Tapi, mereka tidak mau menurut kepada-Ku."

¹²Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

¹²TUHAN Allah berkata kepadaku, "Yeremia, sampaikanlah pesan-Ku kepada orang Israel bahwa setiap guci tempat anggur harus diisi penuh dengan anggur. Mereka akan menjawab, 'Masakan kami tidak tahu bahwa setiap guci harus dipenuhi dengan anggur?'

¹³Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

¹³Maka katakanlah kepada mereka bahwa orang-orang di negeri ini, raja-raja keturunan Daud, para imam, nabi, dan seluruh penduduk Yerusalem akan Kuisi penuh dengan anggur sampai mabuk.

¹⁴And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

¹⁴Lalu mereka akan Kubenturkan satu sama lain. Tua dan muda akan Kuperlakukan demikian tanpa ampun. Mereka akan Kubinasakan tanpa merasa sayang atau kasihan. Aku, TUHAN, telah berbicara."

¹⁵Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.

¹⁵Umat Israel, TUHAN telah berbicara! Jangan angkuh, dengarkan Dia!

¹⁶Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹⁶TUHAN Allahmu harus kauagungkan sebelum Ia mendatangkan kegelapan, dan kakimu tersandung di pegunungan, sebelum terang yang kauharapkan diubah-Nya menjadi kekelaman.

¹⁷But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock is carried away captive.

¹⁷Jika kau enggan mendengarkan, aku akan menangis dengan diam-diam. Dengan rasa pilu kutangisi keangkuhanmu itu. Air mataku akan berlinang karena umat TUHAN diangkut sebagai tawanan.

¹⁸Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

¹⁸TUHAN berkata kepadaku, "Suruh raja dan ibu suri turun dari takhtanya, sebab mahkotanya yang indah sudah jatuh dari kepalanya.

¹⁹The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.

¹⁹Kota-kota Yehuda di bagian selatan sedang dikepung, dan tak ada yang dapat menerobosi kepungan itu. Semua orang Yehuda sudah diangkut ke pembuangan."

²⁰Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

²⁰TUHAN berkata kepada penduduk Yerusalem, "Perhatikanlah! Musuh-musuhmu sedang datang dari utara! Di manakah orang-orang yang harus kamu lindungi dan yang sangat kamu banggakan itu.

²¹What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

²¹Apa yang akan kamu katakan jika orang-orang yang kamu perlakukan sebagai kawan-kawanmu mengalahkan dan menguasai kamu? Pasti kamu akan merasa sakit seperti wanita yang sedang melahirkan.

²²And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.

²²Barangkali kamu bertanya mengapa semuanya itu menimpa dirimu, mengapa pakaianmu dirobek dan kamu diperkosa. Ketahuilah bahwa itu terjadi karena dosamu terlalu besar.

²³Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

²³Dapatkah orang hitam mengubah warna kulitnya, atau harimau menghilangkan belangnya? Tentu tidak! Begitu juga kamu yang biasa berbuat jahat tidak mungkin berbuat baik.

²⁴Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

²⁴Aku akan menceraiberaikan kamu seperti sekam ditiup angin dari padang gurun.

²⁵This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

²⁵Itulah nasibmu yang telah Kutentukan karena kamu telah melupakan Aku, dan telah percaya kepada ilah-ilah palsu.

²⁶Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

²⁶Aku sendiri akan merobek pakaian dari badanmu supaya kamu menjadi telanjang dan malu.

²⁷I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?

²⁷Aku sudah melihat kamu melakukan hal-hal yang Kubenci. Aku telah melihat kamu mengejar ilah-ilah lain di bukit dan di ladang, seperti seorang laki-laki tergila-gila terhadap istri orang lain atau seperti kuda jantan bernafsu terhadap kuda betina. Penduduk Yerusalem, celakalah kamu! Kapan kamu akan bebas dari semua kejahatan?"
