¹Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

¹Aku menulis surat kepada imam-imam, nabi-nabi, pemimpin-pemimpin bangsa yang masih hidup, dan kepada semua orang lain yang telah diangkut dari Yerusalem ke Babel oleh Nebukadnezar.

²(After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)

²Surat itu kutulis setelah Raja Yoyakhin, ibunya, pegawai-pegawai istana, pejabat-pejabat pemerintahan Yehuda dan Yerusalem, para pengrajin, dan para pekerja ahli diangkut ke pembuangan.

³By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,

³Aku menitipkan surat itu kepada Elasa anak Safan, dan Gemarya anak Hilkia yang diutus Zedekia raja Yehuda kepada Nebukadnezar raja Babel. Surat itu berbunyi,

⁴Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

⁴"Beginilah kata TUHAN Yang Mahakuasa, Allah Israel kepada semua orang yang telah dibuangnya dari Yerusalem ke Babel:

⁵Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

⁵'Menetaplah di situ. Bangunlah rumah-rumahmu. Bukalah ladang dan nikmatilah hasilnya.

⁶Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

⁶Kawinlah supaya kamu mendapat anak, dan biarlah anak-anakmu juga kawin supaya mereka pun mendapat anak. Jumlahmu harus bertambah dan tidak boleh berkurang.

⁷And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

⁷Bekerjalah untuk kesejahteraan kota-kota tempat kamu Kubuang. Berdoalah kepada-Ku untuk kepentingan kota-kota itu, sebab kalau kota-kota itu makmur, kamu pun akan makmur.

⁸For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

⁸Aku TUHAN, Yang Mahakuasa, Allah Israel, memperingatkan kamu supaya jangan membiarkan dirimu ditipu oleh nabi-nabi yang tinggal di tengah-tengahmu atau oleh siapapun juga yang berkata bahwa mereka dapat meramalkan masa depan. Jangan memperhatikan mimpi-mimpi mereka.

⁹For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

⁹Mereka memakai nama-Ku untuk menceritakan kepadamu hal-hal yang tidak benar. Aku tidak menyuruh mereka. Aku, TUHAN, telah berbicara.'

¹⁰For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

¹⁰TUHAN berkata, 'Apabila telah genap masa tujuh puluh tahun bagi Babel, Aku akan memperhatikan kamu lagi, dan menepati janji-Ku untuk membawa kamu kembali ke tempat ini.

¹¹For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

¹¹Bukankah Aku sendiri tahu rencana-rencana-Ku bagi kamu? Rencana-rencana itu bukan untuk mencelakakan kamu, tetapi untuk kesejahteraanmu dan untuk memberikan kepadamu masa depan yang penuh harapan.

¹²Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

¹²Maka kamu akan minta tolong kepada-Ku. Kamu akan datang untuk berdoa kepada-Ku, dan Aku akan menjawab doamu.

¹³And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

¹³Kamu akan mencari Aku dan menemukan Aku, sebab kamu mencari dengan sepenuh hati.

¹⁴And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

¹⁴Sungguh, kamu akan menemukan Aku. Kamu akan Kukumpulkan dari tengah-tengah setiap bangsa dan dari setiap negeri tempat kamu diceraiberaikan dan dibuang. Kamu akan Kubawa kembali ke negeri asalmu ini serta memulihkan keadaanmu. Aku, TUHAN, telah berbicara.'

¹⁵Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

¹⁵Menurut kamu, TUHAN telah memberikan kepadamu nabi-nabi di Babel.

¹⁶Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

¹⁶Dengarkan apa yang dikatakan TUHAN tentang raja yang memerintah sekarang ini, yaitu raja keturunan Daud, dan tentang penduduk kota ini, yaitu sanak keluargamu yang tidak diangkut ke pembuangan bersama kamu.

¹⁷Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

¹⁷TUHAN Yang Mahakuasa berkata, 'Aku akan mendatangkan peperangan, kelaparan, dan wabah penyakit ke atas mereka. Mereka akan Kuperlakukan seperti buah-buah ara yang terlalu busuk sehingga tak dapat dimakan.

¹⁸And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:

¹⁸Mereka akan Kukejar-kejar dengan peperangan, kelaparan, dan wabah penyakit sehingga segala bangsa di seluruh dunia akan merasa ngeri melihat keadaan mereka. Di mana saja Aku menceraiberaikan mereka, orang akan merasa ngeri dan takut melihat apa yang telah terjadi dengan mereka. Mereka akan diejek, dan nama mereka dipakai sebagai kutukan.

¹⁹Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.

¹⁹Semua itu terjadi atas mereka, karena mereka tidak menuruti pesan-Ku yang terus-menerus Kusampaikan kepada mereka melalui para nabi hamba-hamba-Ku. Mereka tidak mau memperhatikan pesan-Ku itu.

²⁰Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

²⁰Dan kamu semua yang telah Kubuang ke Babel, dengarkan apa yang Aku, TUHAN, katakan.'

²¹Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

²¹TUHAN Yang Mahakuasa, Allah Israel, telah berbicara mengenai Ahab putra Kolaya, dan mengenai Zedekia putra Maaseya yang memakai nama TUHAN untuk menyampaikan kepadamu hal-hal yang tidak benar. TUHAN berkata bahwa Ia akan menyerahkan mereka kepada kekuasaan Nebukadnezar raja Babel, yang akan membunuh mereka di depan matamu.

²²And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

²²Maka apabila orang-orang yang telah diangkut dari Yerusalem ke Babel hendak mengutuki seseorang, mereka akan berkata, 'Semoga TUHAN memperlakukan engkau seperti Zedekia dan Ahab, yang telah dibakar hidup-hidup oleh raja Babel.'

²³Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.

²³Begitulah nasib mereka karena telah melakukan dosa-dosa besar di Israel: mereka berzinah, dan memakai nama TUHAN untuk menceritakan hal-hal yang tidak benar. Itu bertentangan dengan kemauan TUHAN. Ia tahu apa yang mereka lakukan, dan ia sendiri menjadi saksi melawan mereka. TUHAN telah berbicara."

²⁴Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

²⁴TUHAN Yang Mahakuasa, Allah Israel memberi pesan kepadaku untuk Semaya, orang Nehelam, karena Semaya telah mengirim surat atas namanya sendiri kepada seluruh penduduk Yerusalem, kepada Imam Zefanya anak Maaseya, dan kepada semua imam yang lain. Dalam surat itu Semaya menulis begini kepada Zefanya:

²⁵Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

²⁵(29:24)

²⁶The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.

²⁶"TUHAN telah mengangkat engkau menjadi imam menggantikan Yoyada, dan sekarang engkaulah pejabat tertinggi di Rumah TUHAN. Tugasmu ialah memerintahkan supaya setiap orang gila, yang mengaku dirinya nabi, dibelenggu dengan rantai besi pada lehernya.

²⁷Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?

²⁷Tetapi mengapa engkau tidak bertindak terhadap Yeremia orang Anatot itu yang telah berlaku sebagai nabi di antara bangsa kita?

²⁸For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

²⁸Orang itu harus ditutup mulutnya, sebab ia mengatakan kepada orang-orang kita di Babel bahwa mereka masih lama tinggal di sana. Dan karena itu, katanya, mereka harus membangun rumah serta membuka ladang dan menikmati hasilnya."

²⁹And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

²⁹Surat itu dibacakan oleh Imam Zefanya kepadaku.

³⁰Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

³⁰Sebab itu TUHAN menyuruh aku

³¹Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:

³¹mengirim berita tentang Semaya kepada semua orang Israel yang dibuang di Babel. Inilah berita itu, "Semaya telah berbicara kepadamu seolah-olah ia nabi; padahal Aku, TUHAN, tidak menyuruh dia. Karena ia telah membuat kamu percaya kepada perkataan dusta,

³²Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.

³²dan karena ia telah menyuruh kamu melawan Aku, maka Aku akan menghukum dia dan keturunannya. Tidak seorang pun dari antara mereka yang akan tinggal di antara kamu untuk melihat hal-hal baik yang akan Kulakukan untuk seluruh umat-Ku. Aku, TUHAN, telah berbicara."
