¹And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

¹Pada tahun keempat setelah Yoyakim anak Yosia menjadi raja Yehuda, TUHAN berkata kepadaku,

²Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

²"Ambillah sebuah buku gulungan, dan tulislah di situ semua yang telah Kukatakan kepadamu tentang Israel dan Yehuda, dan tentang segala bangsa. Tulislah semua perkataan-Ku sejak Aku pertama kali berbicara kepadamu pada masa pemerintahan Raja Yosia sampai hari ini.

³It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

³Barangkali orang Yehuda akan berhenti berbuat jahat apabila mereka mendengar tentang semua bencana yang akan Kutimpakan ke atas mereka. Maka Aku akan mengampuni dosa dan kejahatan mereka."

⁴Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

⁴Karena itu aku memanggil Barukh anak Neria dan mendiktekan kepadanya semua yang dikatakan TUHAN kepadaku. Maka Barukh menulis semuanya pada buku gulungan itu.

⁵And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:

⁵Kemudian aku memberi perintah ini kepadanya, "Aku tidak diizinkan lagi memasuki Rumah TUHAN.

⁶Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD's house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

⁶Karena itu, apabila tiba harinya orang berpuasa, engkau harus pergi ke sana, dan membacakan dengan suara keras semua yang telah kudiktekan kepadamu, supaya mereka mendengar semua yang dikatakan TUHAN kepadaku. Lakukanlah itu di tempat yang memungkinkan engkau dapat didengar oleh setiap orang yang berada di Rumah TUHAN, termasuk orang Yehuda yang datang dari kota-kota mereka.

⁷It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.

⁷Barangkali karena itu mereka akan berdoa kepada TUHAN, dan bertobat dari perbuatan-perbuatan mereka yang jahat. TUHAN marah sekali kepada mereka dan mengancam mereka."

⁸And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD's house.

⁸Maka Barukh membacakan perkataan TUHAN di Rumah TUHAN, seperti yang kutugaskan kepadanya.

⁹And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.

⁹Pada bulan sembilan tahun kelima pemerintahan Yoyakim raja Yehuda, rakyat berpuasa untuk memperoleh belas kasihan dari TUHAN. Penduduk Yerusalem dan orang-orang yang datang dari kota-kota Yehuda, semuanya berpuasa.

¹⁰Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD's house, in the ears of all the people.

¹⁰Lalu Barukh membacakan dari buku gulungan itu segala sesuatu yang telah kukatakan, dan semua orang mendengarkan. Pembacaan itu dilakukan di dalam Rumah TUHAN di kantor Gemarya, anak Safan sekretaris negara. Kantor itu terletak di pelataran sebelah atas, dekat jalan masuk ke Pintu Gerbang Baru di Rumah TUHAN.

¹¹When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,

¹¹Mikhaya anak Gemarya dan cucu Safan mendengar Barukh membacakan perkataan TUHAN dari buku gulungan itu.

¹²Then he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

¹²Lalu ia pergi ke istana, ke kantor sekretaris negara. Di situ semua pejabat sedang berapat. Delaya anak Semaya, Elnatan anak Akhbor, Gemarya anak Safan, Zedekia anak Hananya, Elisama seorang sekretaris, dan pejabat-pejabat lainnya ada di situ.

¹³Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

¹³Mikhaya memberitahukan kepada mereka, semua yang dibacakan Barukh di Rumah TUHAN.

¹⁴Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

¹⁴Lalu para pejabat itu mengutus Yehudi (yaitu anak Netanya, cucu Selemya, dan buyut Kusyi) kepada Barukh dengan perintah untuk datang dan membawa kepada mereka buku gulungan yang telah dibacakannya itu. Maka Barukh membawa buku itu.

¹⁵And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

¹⁵"Silakan duduk," kata mereka, "bacakanlah buku gulungan itu kepada kami." Barukh pun menurut.

¹⁶Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

¹⁶Setelah ia selesai membaca, mereka saling memandang dengan perasaan cemas lalu berkata kepada Barukh, "Kami harus melaporkan hal ini kepada raja."

¹⁷And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?

¹⁷Kemudian mereka bertanya, "Coba beritahukan kepada kami bagaimana engkau menulis semuanya ini. Apakah Yeremia yang mendiktekannya kepadamu?"

¹⁸Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

¹⁸"Betul, setiap kata yang tertulis di sini telah didiktekan oleh Yeremia kepadaku, dan aku menulisnya dengan tinta pada buku gulungan ini," jawab Barukh.

¹⁹Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.

¹⁹"Engkau dan Yeremia harus bersembunyi. Jangan sampai orang tahu tempat persembunyianmu itu," kata mereka.

²⁰And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.

²⁰Para pejabat itu menaruh buku gulungan itu di kamar Elisama, sekretaris itu, kemudian pergi kepada raja dan melaporkan semuanya.

²¹So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.

²¹Lalu raja menyuruh Yehudi pergi untuk mengambil buku gulungan itu. Setelah mengambilnya dari kamar Elisama, Yehudi membacakannya kepada raja dan kepada semua pejabat yang sedang berdiri di sekelilingnya.

²²Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.

²²Waktu itu bulan sembilan, dan raja sedang duduk di depan perapian di istana musim dinginnya.

²³And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

²³Begitu Yehudi selesai membaca tiga atau empat lajur, raja memotong bagian itu dengan sebilah pisau kecil dan melemparkannya ke dalam api. Demikianlah dilakukannya terus sampai seluruh buku gulungan itu terbakar habis.

²⁴Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

²⁴Sekalipun Elnatan, Delaya, dan Gemarya memohon dengan sangat supaya raja jangan membakar buku gulungan itu, namun ia tidak mau mendengarkan mereka. Baik raja maupun para pejabat yang mendengar isi buku itu tidak menjadi takut atau menunjukkan penyesalan.

²⁵Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.

²⁵(36:24)

²⁶But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.

²⁶Raja malah memerintahkan putranya, yaitu Yerahmeel, bersama dengan Seraya anak Azriel dan Selemya anak Abdeel, supaya menangkap aku dan Barukh sekretarisku. Tetapi TUHAN menyembunyikan kami.

²⁷Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

²⁷Setelah Raja Yoyakim membakar buku gulungan yang kudiktekan kepada Barukh itu, TUHAN menyuruh aku

²⁸Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

²⁸mengambil buku gulungan yang lain, dan menulis semua yang telah tertulis pada buku gulungan yang pertama itu.

²⁹And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?

²⁹TUHAN menyuruh aku mengatakan begini kepada raja, "Engkau sudah membakar buku gulungan itu, dan engkau bertanya kepada Yeremia mengapa ia menulis bahwa raja Babel akan datang dan menghancurkan negeri ini serta membunuh penduduknya bersama binatang-binatangnya.

³⁰Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

³⁰Sebab itu, Aku, TUHAN, berkata kepadamu, hai Raja Yoyakim, bahwa tidak seorang pun dari keturunanmu akan memerintah sebagai raja keturunan Daud. Mayatmu akan dilempar ke luar, tertimpa panas di waktu siang, dan embun dingin di waktu malam.

³¹And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.

³¹Engkau, keturunanmu, dan para pejabatmu akan Kuhukum karena dosa-dosa yang kamu lakukan. Aku akan mendatangkan ke atas kamu semua bencana yang telah Kuancamkan kepadamu, karena baik engkau maupun penduduk Yerusalem dan Yehuda tidak memperhatikan ancaman-ancaman-Ku."

³²Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

³²Maka aku mengambil buku gulungan yang baru, dan memberikannya kepada Barukh sekretarisku. Lalu ia menuliskan semua yang kudiktekan kepadanya, yaitu isi buku gulungan yang pertama ditambah beberapa pesan lain semacam itu.
