¹And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

¹TUHAN berkata kepada Musa,

²Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.

²"Dari setiap suku Israel utuslah seorang dari antara pemimpin-pemimpinnya untuk memata-matai tanah Kanaan yang akan Kuberikan kepada orang Israel."

³And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.

³Sesuai dengan perintah Allah itu, Musa mengutus mereka dari padang gurun Paran. Semua orang itu adalah pemimpin-pemimpin di antara orang Israel: (Suku-Pemimpin), Ruben-Syamua anak Zakur, Simeon-Safat anak Hori, Yehuda-Kaleb anak Yefune, Isakhar-Yigal anak Yusuf, Efraim-Hosea anak Nun, Benyamin-Palti anak Rafu, Zebulon-Gadiel anak Sodi, Manasye-Gadi anak Susi, Dan-Amiel anak Gemali, Asyer-Setur anak Mikhael, Naftali-Nahbi anak Wofsi, Gad-Guel anak Makhi.

⁴And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

⁶Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

⁷Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

⁸Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.

⁹Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

⁹(13:3)

¹⁰Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

¹⁰(13:3)

¹¹Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

¹¹(13:3)

¹²Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.

¹²(13:3)

¹³Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.

¹³(13:3)

¹⁴Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.

¹⁴(13:3)

¹⁵Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

¹⁵(13:3)

¹⁶These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.

¹⁶Itulah mata-mata yang diutus Musa untuk mengintai negeri itu. Hosea anak Nun diganti namanya oleh Musa menjadi Yosua.

¹⁷And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:

¹⁷Ketika Musa menyuruh mereka berangkat, ia berpesan kepada mereka, "Berjalanlah ke arah utara, menuju bagian selatan tanah Kanaan, lalu terus ke daerah berbukit.

¹⁸And see the land, what it is, and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;

¹⁸Selidikilah bagaimana negeri itu, apakah penduduknya banyak atau sedikit, apakah mereka kuat atau lemah.

¹⁹And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;

¹⁹Periksalah apakah negeri itu baik atau tidak, dan apakah penduduknya tinggal di desa-desa yang terbuka atau dalam kota-kota yang berbenteng.

²⁰And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.

²⁰Tabahkanlah hatimu. Lihatlah apakah tanahnya subur dan banyak pohon-pohonnya. Jangan lupa membawa pulang sedikit buah-buahan yang tumbuh di sana." Waktu itu permulaan musim anggur.

²¹So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

²¹Maka pergilah orang-orang itu ke arah utara dan menyelidiki negeri itu mulai dari padang gurun Zin di sebelah selatan ke utara sampai kota Rehob, dekat jalan ke Hamat.

²²And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

²²Mula-mula mereka pergi ke bagian selatan negeri itu dan tiba di kota Hebron, tempat tinggal orang-orang Ahiman, Sesai dan Talmai, keturunan Enak. Hebron didirikan tujuh tahun sebelum kota Zoan di Mesir.

²³And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

²³Lalu tibalah mereka di lembah Eskol. Di situ mereka memotong seranting buah anggur yang begitu berat, sehingga harus dipikul dengan sebatang kayu oleh dua orang. Mereka membawa juga beberapa buah delima dan buah ara.

²⁴The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

²⁴Tempat itu disebut Lembah Eskol karena ranting buah anggur yang dipotong oleh orang Israel di situ.

²⁵And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

²⁵Sesudah menyelidiki negeri itu empat puluh hari lamanya, mata-mata itu kembali

²⁶And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

²⁶dan memberi laporan kepada Musa, Harun dan seluruh umat Israel yang sedang berkumpul di Kades, di padang gurun Paran. Mereka menceritakan apa yang sudah mereka lihat dan menunjukkan buah-buahan yang mereka bawa.

²⁷And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

²⁷Kata mereka kepada Musa, "Kami sudah menyelidiki negeri itu dan melihat bahwa tanahnya kaya dan subur, dan ini sedikit buah-buahan dari sana.

²⁸Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

²⁸Tetapi penduduk negeri itu kuat-kuat. Kota-kota mereka besar-besar dan berbenteng. Lagipula, kami melihat orang-orang keturunan raksasa di sana.

²⁹The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.

²⁹Orang Amalek tinggal di bagian selatan negeri itu; orang Het, Yebus dan Amori tinggal di daerah berbukit; sedangkan orang Kanaan mendiami daerah di sepanjang laut dan di sepanjang Sungai Yordan."

³⁰And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

³⁰Tetapi Kaleb menenangkan hati orang-orang yang mengeluh kepada Musa. Kata Kaleb, "Negeri itu harus kita serang dan kita rebut sekarang juga, karena kita cukup kuat untuk mengalahkannya."

³¹But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

³¹Tetapi orang-orang yang kembali dengan Kaleb itu berkata, "Tidak, kita tidak sanggup menyerang mereka. Penduduk negeri itu lebih kuat dari kita."

³²And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

³²Lalu mereka menyebarkan cerita bohong di kalangan orang Israel tentang negeri yang sudah mereka mata-matai itu. Kata mereka, "Negeri itu sangat berbahaya, bahkan untuk penduduknya sendiri. Orang-orang yang kami lihat di sana sangat besar badannya.

³³And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

³³Bahkan kami melihat orang-orang yang seperti raksasa, yaitu keturunan orang Enak. Dibandingkan dengan mereka, kami merasa seperti belalang, dan pasti begitulah anggapan mereka terhadap kami."
