¹Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.

¹Zelafehad mempunyai lima anak perempuan, yaitu Mahla, Noa, Hogla, Milka dan Tirza. Ayah Zelafehad adalah Hefer, ayah Hefer adalah Gilead. Ayah Gilead adalah Makhir, ayah Makhir adalah Manasye, dan ayah Manasye adalah Yusuf.

²And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,

²Kelima anak Zelafehad itu pergi menghadap Musa, dan Imam Eleazar, serta para pemimpin dan seluruh umat yang sedang berkumpul di dekat pintu Kemah TUHAN. Kata mereka,

³Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.

³"Ayah kami meninggal di padang gurun dan ia tidak mempunyai anak laki-laki. Ia bukan pengikut Korah yang memberontak terhadap TUHAN. Ayah kami itu meninggal karena dosanya sendiri.

⁴Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.

⁴Tetapi mengapa namanya harus hilang dari bangsa Israel hanya karena ia tidak mempunyai keturunan laki-laki? Berilah kami tanah pusaka bersama-sama dengan sanak saudara ayah kami."

⁵And Moses brought their cause before the LORD.

⁵Lalu Musa menyampaikan perkara mereka itu kepada TUHAN,

⁶And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

⁶dan TUHAN berkata kepada Musa,

⁷The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.

⁷"Apa yang dikatakan anak-anak Zelafehad itu memang pantas. Jadi berilah mereka tanah pusaka bersama-sama dengan sanak saudara ayah mereka. Warisan Zelafehad itu harus diturunkan kepada anak-anaknya yang perempuan.

⁸And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.

⁸Katakanlah kepada bangsa Israel bahwa apabila seorang laki-laki mati dan ia tidak mempunyai anak laki-laki, maka tanah pusakanya harus diwariskan kepada anaknya yang perempuan.

⁹And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.

⁹Kalau ia tidak mempunyai anak perempuan, tanah pusakanya itu diwariskan kepada saudaranya laki-laki.

¹⁰And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren.

¹⁰Kalau ia tidak mempunyai saudara laki-laki, tanahnya itu untuk saudara laki-laki ayahnya.

¹¹And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.

¹¹Kalau ia tidak mempunyai saudara laki-laki, dan tak ada pula saudara laki-laki ayahnya, tanahnya itu menjadi milik kerabat yang paling dekat dari kaumnya." Ketentuan itu harus dipatuhi orang Israel sebagai peraturan hukum yang diperintahkan TUHAN melalui Musa.

¹²And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.

¹²TUHAN berkata kepada Musa, "Naiklah ke Gunung Abarim, dan dari situ pandanglah negeri yang akan Kuberikan kepada orang Israel.

¹³And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.

¹³Sesudah memandangnya, engkau akan mati seperti abangmu Harun,

¹⁴For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.

¹⁴sebab di padang gurun Zin kamu berdua telah melawan perintah-Ku. Ketika di Meriba seluruh rakyat mengomel terhadap Aku, kamu tidak mau menyatakan kekuasaan-Ku di hadapan mereka berhubung dengan air itu." (Peristiwa itu terjadi di mata air Meriba di Kades, di padang gurun Zin).

¹⁵And Moses spake unto the LORD, saying,

¹⁵Lalu Musa berdoa,

¹⁶Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,

¹⁶"Ya, TUHAN Allah, yang memberi kehidupan kepada semua yang hidup, saya mohon, tunjuklah seorang yang dapat memimpin bangsa ini;

¹⁷Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

¹⁷seorang yang dapat menjadi panglima pada waktu mereka berperang. Jangan biarkan umat-Mu ini seperti kawanan domba yang tidak mempunyai gembala."

¹⁸And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;

¹⁸Kata TUHAN kepada Musa, "Panggillah Yosua, anak Nun. Ia seorang yang cakap. Letakkan tanganmu ke atas kepalanya.

¹⁹And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.

¹⁹Suruhlah dia berdiri di depan Imam Eleazar dan seluruh umat. Di depan mereka semua engkau harus mengumumkan bahwa Yosua adalah penggantimu.

²⁰And thou shalt put some of thine honor upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.

²⁰Serahkanlah kepadanya sebagian dari kekuasaanmu, supaya umat Israel mentaati dia.

²¹And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

²¹Yosua harus minta petunjuk dari Imam Eleazar, dan Eleazar harus menanyakan kehendak-Ku dengan memakai Urim dan Tumim. Dengan cara itu Eleazar memimpin Yosua dan seluruh bangsa Israel dalam segala perkara yang mereka hadapi."

²²And Moses did as the LORD commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:

²²Musa melakukan seperti yang diperintahkan TUHAN kepadanya. Ia menyuruh Yosua berdiri di depan Imam Eleazar dan seluruh umat.

²³And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.

²³Lalu ia meletakkan tangannya di atas kepala Yosua dan mengumumkan bahwa Yosua adalah penggantinya, seperti yang dikatakan TUHAN kepadanya.
