¹Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

¹神の御旨により召されてキリスト・イエスの使徒となったパウロと、兄弟ソステネから、

²Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:

²コリントにある神の教会、すなわち、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの御名を至る所で呼び求めているすべての人々と共に、キリスト・イエスにあってきよめられ、聖徒として召されたかたがたへ。このキリストは、わたしたちの主であり、また彼らの主であられる。

³Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

³わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。

⁴I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;

⁴わたしは、あなたがたがキリスト・イエスにあって与えられた神の恵みを思って、いつも神に感謝している。

⁵That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;

⁵あなたがたはキリストにあって、すべてのことに、すなわち、すべての言葉にもすべての知識にも恵まれ、

⁶Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

⁶キリストのためのあかしが、あなたがたのうちに確かなものとされ、

⁷So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

⁷こうして、あなたがたは恵みの賜物にいささかも欠けることがなく、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの現れるのを待ち望んでいる。

⁸Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁸主もまた、あなたがたを最後まで堅くささえて、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの日に、責められるところのない者にして下さるであろう。

⁹God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁹神は真実なかたである。あなたがたは神によって召され、御子、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストとの交わりに、はいらせていただいたのである。

¹⁰Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

¹⁰さて兄弟たちよ。わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの名によって、あなたがたに勧める。みな語ることを一つにし、お互の間に分争がないようにし、同じ心、同じ思いになって、堅く結び合っていてほしい。

¹¹For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

¹¹わたしの兄弟たちよ。実は、クロエの家の者たちから、あなたがたの間に争いがあると聞かされている。

¹²Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

¹²はっきり言うと、あなたがたがそれぞれ、「わたしはパウロにつく」「わたしはアポロに」「わたしはケパに」「わたしはキリストに」と言い合っていることである。

¹³Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

¹³キリストは、いくつにも分けられたのか。パウロは、あなたがたのために十字架につけられたことがあるのか。それとも、あなたがたは、パウロの名によってバプテスマを受けたのか。

¹⁴I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;

¹⁴わたしは感謝しているが、クリスポとガイオ以外には、あなたがたのうちのだれにも、バプテスマを授けたことがない。

¹⁵Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.

¹⁵それはあなたがたがわたしの名によってバプテスマを受けたのだと、だれにも言われることのないためである。

¹⁶And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

¹⁶もっとも、ステパナの家の者たちには、バプテスマを授けたことがある。しかし、そのほかには、だれにも授けた覚えがない。

¹⁷For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

¹⁷いったい、キリストがわたしをつかわされたのは、バプテスマを授けるためではなく、福音を宣べ伝えるためであり、しかも知恵の言葉を用いずに宣べ伝えるためであった。それは、キリストの十字架が無力なものになってしまわないためなのである。

¹⁸For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

¹⁸十字架の言は、滅び行く者には愚かであるが、救にあずかるわたしたちには、神の力である。

¹⁹For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

¹⁹すなわち、聖書に、「わたしは知者の知恵を滅ぼし、賢い者の賢さをむなしいものにする」と書いてある。

²⁰Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

²⁰知者はどこにいるか。学者はどこにいるか。この世の論者はどこにいるか。神はこの世の知恵を、愚かにされたではないか。

²¹For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

²¹この世は、自分の知恵によって神を認めるに至らなかった。それは、神の知恵にかなっている。そこで神は、宣教の愚かさによって、信じる者を救うこととされたのである。

²²For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

²²ユダヤ人はしるしを請い、ギリシヤ人は知恵を求める。

²³But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

²³しかしわたしたちは、十字架につけられたキリストを宣べ伝える。このキリストは、ユダヤ人にはつまずかせるもの、異邦人には愚かなものであるが、

²⁴But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

²⁴召された者自身にとっては、ユダヤ人にもギリシヤ人にも、神の力、神の知恵たるキリストなのである。

²⁵Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

²⁵神の愚かさは人よりも賢く、神の弱さは人よりも強いからである。

²⁶For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

²⁶兄弟たちよ。あなたがたが召された時のことを考えてみるがよい。人間的には、知恵のある者が多くはなく、権力のある者も多くはなく、身分の高い者も多くはいない。

²⁷But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

²⁷それだのに神は、知者をはずかしめるために、この世の愚かな者を選び、強い者をはずかしめるために、この世の弱い者を選び、

²⁸And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

²⁸有力な者を無力な者にするために、この世で身分の低い者や軽んじられている者、すなわち、無きに等しい者を、あえて選ばれたのである。

²⁹That no flesh should glory in his presence.

²⁹それは、どんな人間でも、神のみまえに誇ることがないためである。

³⁰But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

³⁰あなたがたがキリスト・イエスにあるのは、神によるのである。キリストは神に立てられて、わたしたちの知恵となり、義と聖とあがないとになられたのである。それは、「誇る者は主を誇れ」と書いてあるとおりである。

³¹That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
