¹Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

²We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;

²わたしたちは祈の時にあなたがたを覚え、あなたがた一同のことを、いつも神に感謝し、

³Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

³あなたがたの信仰の働きと、愛の労苦と、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストに対する望みの忍耐とを、わたしたちの父なる神のみまえに、絶えず思い起している。

⁴Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

⁴神に愛されている兄弟たちよ。わたしたちは、あなたがたが神に選ばれていることを知っている。

⁵For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

⁵なぜなら、わたしたちの福音があなたがたに伝えられたとき、それは言葉だけによらず、力と聖霊と強い確信とによったからである。わたしたちが、あなたがたの間で、みんなのためにどんなことをしたか、あなたがたの知っているとおりである。

⁶And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.

⁶そしてあなたがたは、多くの患難の中で、聖霊による喜びをもって御言を受けいれ、わたしたちと主とにならう者となり、

⁷So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

⁷こうして、マケドニヤとアカヤとにいる信者全体の模範になった。

⁸For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

⁸すなわち、主の言葉はあなたがたから出て、ただマケドニヤとアカヤとに響きわたっているばかりではなく、至るところで、神に対するあなたがたの信仰のことが言いひろめられたので、これについては何も述べる必要はないほどである。

⁹For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

⁹わたしたちが、どんなにしてあなたがたの所にはいって行ったか、また、あなたがたが、どんなにして偶像を捨てて神に立ち帰り、生けるまことの神に仕えるようになり、そして、死人の中からよみがえった神の御子、すなわち、わたしたちをきたるべき怒りから救い出して下さるイエスが、天から下ってこられるのを待つようになったかを、彼ら自身が言いひろめているのである。

¹⁰And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

¹⁰そして、死人の中からよみがえった神の御子、すなわち、わたしたちをきたるべき怒りから救い出して下さるイエスが、天から下ってこられるのを待つようになったかを、彼ら自身が言いひろめているのである。
