¹And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.

¹ダビデが山の頂を過ぎて、すこし行った時、メピボセテのしもべヂバは、くらを置いた二頭のろばを引き、その上にパン二百個、干ぶどう百ふさ、夏のくだもの一百、ぶどう酒一袋を載せてきてダビデを迎えた。

²And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.

²王はヂバに言った、「あなたはどうしてこれらのものを持ってきたのですか」。ヂバは答えた、「ろばは王の家族が乗るため、パンと夏のくだものは若者たちが食べるため、ぶどう酒は荒野で弱った者が飲むためです」。

³And the king said, And where is thy master's son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, To day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.

³王は言った、「あなたの主人の子はどこにおるのですか」。ヂバは王に言った、「エルサレムにとどまっています。彼は、『イスラエルの家はきょう、わたしの父の国をわたしに返すであろう』と思ったのです」。

⁴Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in thy sight, my lord, O king.

⁴王はヂバに言った、「見よ、メピボセテのものはことごとくあなたのものです」。ヂバは言った、「わたしは敬意を表します。わが主、王よ、あなたの前にいつまでも恵みを得させてください」。

⁵And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.

⁵ダビデ王がバホリムにきた時、サウルの家の一族の者がひとりそこから出てきた。その名をシメイといい、ゲラの子である。彼は出てきながら絶えずのろった。

⁶And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.

⁶そして彼はダビデとダビデ王のもろもろの家来に向かって石を投げた。その時、民と勇士たちはみな王の左右にいた。

⁷And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:

⁷シメイはのろう時にこう言った、「血を流す人よ、よこしまな人よ、立ち去れ、立ち去れ。

⁸The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody man.

⁸あなたが代って王となったサウルの家の血をすべて主があなたに報いられたのだ。主は王国をあなたの子アブサロムの手に渡された。見よ、あなたは血を流す人だから、災に会うのだ」。

⁹Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.

⁹時にゼルヤの子アビシャイは王に言った、「この死んだ犬がどうしてわが主、王をのろってよかろうか。わたしに、行って彼の首を取らせてください」。

¹⁰And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?

¹⁰しかし王は言った、「ゼルヤの子たちよ、あなたがたと、なんのかかわりがあるのか。彼がのろうのは、主が彼に、『ダビデをのろえ』と言われたからであるならば、だれが、『あなたはどうしてこういうことをするのか』と言ってよいであろうか」。

¹¹And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.

¹¹ダビデはまたアビシャイと自分のすべての家来とに言った、「わたしの身から出たわが子がわたしの命を求めている。今、このベニヤミンびととしてはなおさらだ。彼を許してのろわせておきなさい。主が彼に命じられたのだ。

¹²It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.

¹²主はわたしの悩みを顧みてくださるかもしれない。また主はきょう彼ののろいにかえて、わたしに善を報いてくださるかも知れない」。

¹³And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.

¹³こうしてダビデとその従者たちとは道を行ったが、シメイはダビデに並んで向かいの山の中腹を行き、行きながらのろい、また彼に向かって石や、ちりを投げつけた。

¹⁴And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.

¹⁴王および共にいる民はみな疲れてヨルダンに着き、彼はその所で息をついだ。

¹⁵And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

¹⁵さてアブサロムとすべての民、イスラエルの人々はエルサレムにきた。アヒトペルもアブサロムと共にいた。

¹⁶And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.

¹⁶ダビデの友であるアルキびとホシャイがアブサロムのもとにきた時、ホシャイはアブサロムに「王万歳、王万歳」と言った。

¹⁷And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?

¹⁷アブサロムはホシャイに言った、「これはあなたがその友に示す真実なのか。あなたはどうしてあなたの友と一緒に行かなかったのか」。

¹⁸And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.

¹⁸ホシャイはアブサロムに言った、「いいえ、主とこの民とイスラエルのすべての人々が選んだ者にわたしは属し、かつその人と一緒におります。

¹⁹And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence, so will I be in thy presence.

¹⁹かつまたわたしはだれに仕えるべきですか。その子の前に仕えるべきではありませんか。あなたの父の前に仕えたように、わたしはあなたの前に仕えます」。

²⁰Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.

²⁰そこでアブサロムはアヒトペルに言った、「あなたがたは、われわれがどうしたらよいのか、計りごとを述べなさい」。

²¹And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father's concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong.

²¹アヒトペルはアブサロムに言った、「あなたの父が家を守るために残された、めかけたちの所にはいりなさい。そうすればイスラエルは皆あなたが父上に憎まれることを聞くでしょう。そしてあなたと一緒にいる者の手は強くなるでしょう」。

²²So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.

²²こうして彼らがアブサロムのために屋上に天幕を張ったので、アブサロムは全イスラエルの目の前で父のめかけたちの所にはいった。そのころアヒトペルが授ける計りごとは人が神のみ告げを伺うようであった。アヒトペルの計りごとは皆ダビデにもアブサロムにも共にそのように思われた。

²³And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counseled in those days, was as if a man had inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

²³そのころアヒトペルが授ける計りごとは人が神のみ告げを伺うようであった。アヒトペルの計りごとは皆ダビデにもアブサロムにも共にそのように思われた。
