¹The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance.

¹レビびとである祭司すなわちレビの全部族はイスラエルのうちに、分も嗣業も持たない。彼らは主にささげられる火祭の物と、その他のささげ物とを食べなければならない。

²Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the LORD is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.

²彼らはその兄弟のうちに嗣業を持たない。かつて彼らに約束されたとおり主が彼らの嗣業である。

³And this shall be the priest's due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.

³祭司が民から受ける分は次のとおりである。すなわち犠牲をささげる者は、牛でも、羊でも、その肩と、両方のほおと、胃とを祭司に与えなければならない。

⁴The firstfruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.

⁴また穀物と、ぶどう酒と、油の初物および羊の毛の初物をも彼に与えなければならない。

⁵For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever.

⁵あなたの神、主がすべての部族のうちから彼を選び出して、彼とその子孫を長く主の名によって立って仕えさせられるからである。

⁶And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the LORD shall choose;

⁶レビびとはイスラエルの全地のうち、どこにいる者でも、彼が宿っている町を出て、主が選ばれる場所に行くならば、

⁷Then he shall minister in the name of the LORD his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before the LORD.

⁷彼は主の前に立っているすべての兄弟レビびとと同じように、その神、主の名によって仕えることができる。

⁸They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.

⁸彼が食べる分は彼らと同じである。ただし彼はこのほかに父の遺産を売って獲た物を持つことができる。

⁹When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

⁹あなたの神、主が賜わる地にはいったならば、その国々の民の憎むべき事を習いおこなってはならない。

¹⁰There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.

¹⁰あなたがたのうちに、自分のむすこ、娘を火に焼いてささげる者があってはならない。また占いをする者、卜者、易者、魔法使、

¹¹Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

¹¹呪文を唱える者、口寄せ、かんなぎ、死人に問うことをする者があってはならない。

¹²For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

¹²主はすべてこれらの事をする者を憎まれるからである。そしてこれらの憎むべき事のゆえにあなたの神、主は彼らをあなたの前から追い払われるのである。

¹³Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

¹³あなたの神、主の前にあなたは全き者でなければならない。

¹⁴For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

¹⁴あなたが追い払うかの国々の民は卜者、占いをする者に聞き従うからである。しかし、あなたには、あなたの神、主はそうする事を許されない。

¹⁵The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

¹⁵あなたの神、主はあなたのうちから、あなたの同胞のうちから、わたしのようなひとりの預言者をあなたのために起されるであろう。あなたがたは彼に聞き従わなければならない。

¹⁶According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

¹⁶これはあなたが集会の日にホレブであなたの神、主に求めたことである。すなわちあなたは『わたしが死ぬことのないようにわたしの神、主の声を二度とわたしに聞かせないでください。またこの大いなる火を二度と見させないでください』と言った。

¹⁷And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

¹⁷主はわたしに言われた、『彼らが言ったことは正しい。

¹⁸I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

¹⁸わたしは彼らの同胞のうちから、おまえのようなひとりの預言者を彼らのために起して、わたしの言葉をその口に授けよう。彼はわたしが命じることを、ことごとく彼らに告げるであろう。

¹⁹And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

¹⁹彼がわたしの名によって、わたしの言葉を語るのに、もしこれに聞き従わない者があるならば、わたしはそれを罰するであろう。

²⁰But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

²⁰ただし預言者が、わたしが語れと命じないことを、わたしの名によってほしいままに語り、あるいは他の神々の名によって語るならば、その預言者は殺さなければならない』。

²¹And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?

²¹あなたは心のうちに『われわれは、その言葉が主の言われたものでないと、どうして知り得ようか』と言うであろう。もし預言者があって、主の名によって語っても、その言葉が成就せず、またその事が起らない時は、それは主が語られた言葉ではなく、その預言者がほしいままに語ったのである。その預言者を恐れるに及ばない。

²²When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

²²もし預言者があって、主の名によって語っても、その言葉が成就せず、またその事が起らない時は、それは主が語られた言葉ではなく、その預言者がほしいままに語ったのである。その預言者を恐れるに及ばない。
